Trick r Treat: A Monster With A Grudge about Traditions
Inside this episode
Halloween night is supposed to be candy, costumes, and maybe one good scare. Trick ’r Treat asks a nastier question: what happens when a whole town treats Halloween rules like a joke, and something out there takes tradition personally? We connect the movie’s four interlocking stories into one clear timeline, from the decorated-house opening to the serial killer principal chaos, the school bus legend that refuses to stay buried, and the Little Red Riding Hood segment that turns “final girl” expectations inside out.We also spend time on what makes the film a cult classic Halloween anthology even when it feels intentionally scattered. Sam isn’t just a mascot, he’s the glue that makes every choice matter, and we talk through why a small detail like a jack-o’-lantern or a candy bar can decide who lives and who doesn’t. If you’ve ever wanted a straightforward Trick ’r Treat ending explained, or you just want to relive the best kills, twists, and “ohhhh that’s the same street” moments, we’ve got you. Then we switch gears into recent watches, including a punishment review of Lake Placid III that spirals into flying gators, inconsistent monster sizes, and one final girl who simply will not die. We round it out with quick recommendations like Dark Matter for serious multiverse sci-fi and some TV catch-ups like Lanterns and The Pit.Subscribe for more movie, TV, and video game talk, share this with your favorite Halloween movie watcher, and leave a review with your ranking of the four Trick ’r Treat stories. What’s the best segment and why?

1:06Mitch:I I kind of like putting it on like in the background when I'm doing something for like Halloween time. Just because it skips around throughout the movie, you kind of see everything. And if you miss something, you look up and you're still doing the right story.
1:18Hayden:It was uh a little all over the place, but before we get into this movie, social media Mitch.

1:53Entertain this.app for all your needs.
1:55Mitch:Yeah. All your entertainment needs.
1:58Hayden:All right, this movie. I didn't know it existed until you ha suggested we watched it. And uh it was okay.
2:05Mitch:Yeah, yeah, it's not great, but it is an interesting little story, especially for the first time you see it. I wasn't bored.
2:10Hayden:Yeah. I like that it has the four stories that all tie in together, and you're like, Well, I really want to see that guy die, you know. And uh it's satisfied.
2:19Mitch:Well, yeah, because I I kind of like how at the end you realize, oh, this is all just one town.
2:23It's all on one street. Like all the matches are across each other.
2:27Hayden:Yeah, it starts off with uh uh the reporter from Iron Man getting brutally murdered. Yeah. Um, and you're like, What did she do? Why did she get murdered? And then I I guess they kind of explain it in the end.
2:41Violating Halloween traditions.
2:43Mitch:Yeah, yeah. I mean you for that part, you basically at the end you find out like that's the first person that died.
2:52You're not supposed to do it before midnight.
2:53Mitch:That's like an old myth, Halloween, uh, you know, rule.
2:56Hayden:Yeah, whatever. Anyway.
2:58Um I could read the plot.
3:00Hayden:Go for it, Tom.
3:02So instead of you trying to remember it. Well, it is kind of a little all over the place. So, I mean, the film does take place on Halloween night. In the fictional town of Warren Valley, Ohio follows a non-linear narrative, characters crossing paths throughout the film. At the center of the story is Sam, a p peculiar trick-or-treater in an orange footy pajama costume who appears to enforce the rules of Halloween.
3:22Hayden:I lived in Ohio, and I will say it is exactly as they portrayed it. Oh yeah? Yeah, just chaos. It's just a chaotic story.
3:30So it opens. Uh, Emma and her Halloween-loving husband Henry return home after a celebratory night. Emma, who secretly hates Halloween, blows out their jack-o'-lantern before midnight against Henry's advice. Henry falls asleep in the house to the nature special. Emma begins tearing down the decorations, but is then ambushed and murdered by an unseen assailant. Hours later, Henry discovers Emma's mutilated corpse on display with the decorations.
3:53Hayden:It's like, how long was he upstairs? Yeah, and if you hate Halloween, that is a lot of decorations.
3:59That was a lot of decoration. That was a tremendous costume because it looked like it was homemade. She's just walking around this big robot screen. Yeah. It's like how like I'm like, I want to see the conversation where he's like, This is what you're gonna be.
4:11Hayden:He's got like all these like body part prosthetics dangling off the trees.
4:16Mitch:Yeah, hanging from trees, you got the the ghost like strung up on your wooden poles and stuff.
4:21Hayden:It seems like it's such a pain. And she's just like, I'm gonna take this down now.
4:24Mitch:Why would why? It's like 10 or 11 at night. Well, why?
4:27It's like, go go inside, watch the nature special, and do it in the morning.
4:31Hayden:They went to some parade earlier, so you she's tired. I would be tired.
4:34Yeah, it's like I'm not taking all this crap down now.
4:37Mitch:Well, because like the the husband's looking to get busy and she's she's tired, don't want to do that.
4:42And she's like, You're lit, I'm lit, and she's like, Alright, go put on the movie. And like she's like, I'll be there in a minute. And it's like, this isn't gonna take a minute.
4:50Hayden:Yeah. She should have just listened to her husband.
4:53And I'm just like, all these decorations, yeah. I'm like, that's a lot of lumber. And I'm like, and lumber is expensive.
4:59Hayden:Well, not in 2007. Wood was cheap. Yeah, back in the day. Before the tariffs.
5:07So she does get taken out with a lollipop.
5:10Hayden:Yeah. The lollipop slice. So the like, I guess that's a story. Because it said that there I read the description uh of the movie and it said there were four stories. So there's that one, there's like the principal. The principal, which is what whatever. We'll get to that.
5:26Mitch:Well, the principal like killing the kid.
5:28Hayden:Yeah.
5:29Mitch:Uh you had the werewolves.
5:31I didn't feel bad for that kid. Nah. At all.
5:34Mitch:He was annoying. I didn't have like when he's getting buried, he's like stepping on him.
5:38Nah, he was already dead. It was like another kid. Like, we don't even know like where that kid came from.
5:42Hayden:Solve his problem children from school.
5:43As he's like talking to Brian Cox and he's like a or his son's like, Dang it me! He's like, he's like out there covered in blood, like trying to beat this kid to death with a shovel.
5:52Mitch:Should have been the other kid in the window that was down.
5:54Hayden:Yeah.
5:54Well, the son of the serial killer.
5:56Hayden:Yeah, yeah. So he's like, it there's a lot of lead up to that too. Like, okay, so he is gonna kill his kid. I don't know why he felt like Halloween would have been a safe night night to commit all these murders, but whatever. So, and also the amount of time it would take to dig that perfectly square hole that was like five feet deep.
6:18Mitch:He had to have already had it there.
6:19I'm sure. He spent time.
6:22Hayden:He's probably spent since last Halloween digging that thing.
6:25So we cut to, I guess, the principal storyline. Overweight delinquent Charlie vandalizes jack o'landers and steals candy from unattended bowls. He's just walking down the street dragging it just like munching on can't on chocolate, just like dragging like candy in a bag and just like swatting stuff. And it's just like, screw you, kid. Like you're a douche.
6:46Mitch:Was he the same kid from uh Bad Center?
6:48I think he was because I like that. He looked kind of like him. Like that poor curly hair. It's just like, dude, like you gotta get a haircut.
6:56Hayden:Like that looks rough. He gets like super rosy cheeks when he goes upstairs.
7:02It's like, how do you have type 3 diabetes? Found it. He found it. He has mega diabetes. He has super sane diabetes. Someone probably just turned our show off. School principal Steven Wilkins catches him red-handed, offers Charlie a candy bar while lecturing him on the importance of respecting Halloween rules and traditions. Shortly after, Charlie begins vomiting violently. As Charlie dies, Steven, who is in fact a serial killer, reveals that he laced the candy with hydrofluoric acid. He attempts to bury Charlie in the backyard along the body of another victim, but is continually interrupted by trick-or-treaters, his young Halloween-loving son Billy, and his cantankerous elderly neighbor, Mr.
7:43Krieg, and Krieg's dog, Spite. Not Spike, Spite.
7:48Hayden:I watched the subtitles.
7:49At first I was like, are they getting it wrong? And I realized, no, it is Spike because I thought he was saying Spike.
7:54Hayden:Yeah. I I feel like you would be able to taste hydrofluoric acid.
7:59Mitch:How do you lace candy with it?
8:01Yeah.
8:02Hayden:That kid's got diabetes, maybe can't taste anything.
8:06Like whatever that gigantic generic chocolate bar and all the other chocolate in him, like it just says chocolate on the wrapper. It's like, why'd you even name him Charlie? It's like, dude, like you're Augustus gloop. Or I love chocolate. As he's like vomiting bloody chocolate, like all over this dude's stoop.
8:26Mitch:I like that you had like the Hansel and Gretel accent as you said it. I love chocolate. I love chocolate.
8:32He just bathes in Hershey sauce. He brushes his teeth with like ready whip.
8:39Mitch:Well, dude, I that chocolate when he started throwing up. I thought he was just throwing up chocolate until until you see it in light and it's all blood. I was like, oh.
8:45Yeah, at first I was like, that's just chocolate. Like it's just like that's a lot of chocolate. Like, God, like, how much have you eaten already?
8:52Hayden:The gurgling noises that he made.
8:54Because I thought he was gonna kill his own son when he finally gets back in the house. Yeah. And he's like, I'll be there in a minute. And I'm like, dude, it's gonna take you like at least an hour to shovel all that dirt.
9:04Mitch:Well, like I was saying, like, there's I guess there was another kid you said was like trying to grab something. I like how he's talking to the neighbor, like, stomp it on this kid's head. Yeah.
9:11And he's like about to like KO. Like, he's like trying to like cut their hand off with the shovel. And he goes like, keep it cut off, my lot! And he's like, Okay.
9:20Mitch:Mind your business. I'm trying to kill kids here. He throws like a finger. Yeah. And the dog gets the finger.
9:25Yeah, because the dog's like growling at him, and he's just like he throws him the diabetes finger. Yeah.
9:33Hayden:Delicious.
9:34Now that dog has like heart disease.
9:36Hayden:Well, it didn't matter.
9:38And then like the dad's like, the principal's like going in the house, and like the old Brian Cox is like, he's like, see him in the window.
9:47Hayden:Why did Brian Cox have like this nose prosthetic?
9:49Yeah, yeah, like the nose and like the scars. And I'm just like, how'd you get Brian Cox for this movie?
9:54Hayden:Yeah, and then like was maybe you thought the movie was gonna be terrible, so he was like, Alright, but I need to disguise my face. So he had this giant nose on it.
10:03There's no disguising Brian Cox.
10:04Mitch:You can tell by the floor.
10:05You know it's Brian Cox. And then they go downstairs to carve the jack o' lantern, but it's the diabetic kid's head.
10:10Mitch:Yeah, yeah.
10:11Hayden:Yeah, that was weird.
10:12Mitch:Did you notice that the kid was like his outfit look like Chucky? Oh, yeah.
10:16He was wearing like overalls and like the But then you realize the kid's like in on the serial killing and he's just like, I want to carve the jack o' lantern. Screw this kid. Like he eats all the candy at the cafeteria.
10:27Hayden:Yeah.
10:27Then we segue to the Halloween school bus massacre.
10:31Hayden:Yeah, that was interesting. I mean, uh the way like the stories uh because you you kind of get felt uh like like all the stories are gonna be some sort of stupid, campy, predictable, just wait for the gore kind of thing. Yeah. And then they they spin them on their head a little bit, and then you you appreciate that.
10:48Mitch:Well, because they they tie all the movies together, like you see bits and pieces as it goes along, but then until you get to this one, like at a certain point in this one, before everything just kind of spins out of control with all the other fun finality of the each uh story.
11:04So these little vignettes. Yeah. A group of trick-or-treating teenagers, Macy, Chip, Schrader, and Sarah meet devout Halloween traditionalist Rhonda. Macy leads the group to a flooded quarry and recounts the urban legend of the Halloween school bus massacre.
11:19Hayden:I knew Rhonda was gonna be a problem because she was dressed like an angel, and I was like, well, they're gonna. She's definitely like the bad girl in the group.
11:25Mitch:So they got what they deserved.
11:28Yeah, Rhonda was the dressed as the witch. Yeah, she's the oh Rhonda.
11:31Hayden:Which one was the angel girl?
11:33It was either Macy or Sarah.
11:35Hayden:The poor girl with the head braces. With the headgear. Yeah. She had a rough life.
11:43Because they're the they show them going trick-or-treating, and they find like one of their teachers, and she's like in like the sexy cow outfit, and she's just like, there's like a very raunchy party going on at her house, and she's like, You guys want to drink? It's just like what's creepy.
11:56Mitch:She's like, Why don't y'all come in? It's like, no, lady.
12:00No, Mrs. Henderson. Can you like put your chest away?
12:05Mitch:Well, she like turns around, like shakes her butt at him with wiggle in the tail. Yeah, it's gonna be weird.
12:10It's just like, who's that? It's like that's our social studies teacher. I told you.
12:13Hayden:It's Ohio.
12:15Hey, it's like, yeah, that's exactly how it is.
12:19Mitch:Uh beat them old women off with a stick.
12:22The parents of eight mentally disabled children bribed their bus driver to dispose of them. Like, all eight families came together. Yeah, that's pretty sad.
12:30Mitch:Yeah.
12:31A child dressed as Dracula, gets loose, and the bus got driven off a cliff into the quarry. Well, because they're all chained in. Yeah. Yeah. The bus driver survived and was never heard from again, and no one ever tried to find the bus as the people did not want it to be found. Wow. Macy leaves. What a family. That was like, uh, that's like this is more depressing than that.
12:51Hayden:That's definitely a movie from the early 2000s.
12:54Yeah, any of those movies like the ring, any of that. So it's just like, well, so what do they do? So kill him. Drown him. That's the only thing. Macy leaves eight jack-o'-lanterns by the lake as a tribute for the deceased. The group splits up, leaving Rhonda and Chip behind. Ronda gets separated and is pursued by horrifying figures, which turn out to be the other teens in disguise. Because they set her up. With a prank planned by Macy, that vile woman.
13:18Hayden:Yeah, the angel girl. Told you she was bad news.
13:21Realizing the trick went too far, Schrader tries to comfort the hurt and terrified Rhonda while a bitter Macy kicks a jack-o-lantern into the water. The actual drowned children, now risen as the undead, emerge and from the lake attack the teens, killing Sarah. Rhonda abandons the rest of their deaths as revenge for their prank. As she leaves the wagon with jack-o' lanterns, Ronda encounters Sam and exchanges a look with him.
13:42Mitch:Well, I like how when she's on the elevator and they all come running up trying to get her to help, and she reaches down, grabs the key, and just reaches right past him or presses the button to go. I was like, yeah.
13:52It's like, what are you doing? It's just like I would have grabbed the bottom of it.
13:54Hayden:Serves you right.
13:55Yeah.
13:55Hayden:It's just like Yeah, there's like handles and stuff all over there. I was like, there's plenty of like stuff.
13:59Like, was there not like a ladder?
14:01Hayden:It's too late.
14:03I'm guessing you're just like ripped to pieces.
14:05Hayden:I guess. I don't know.
14:06By the undead children.
14:08Hayden:Yeah, well, I mean, that's what you get for having a weird rock quarry in your town.
14:13Shouldn't have lived there.
14:15Hayden:Yeah.
14:16Then we get the surprise party. Lori, a self-conscious 22-year-old virgin from out of town, joins her older sister Danielle and friends.
14:24Hayden:This was my favorite, because uh they mine too. Well, okay. Yeah, we know that. So, because like they play the final girl up a lot, and you're like, you know, the spooky vampire guys running around and yeah, I like that part of the story. And you're like, okay, and we're gonna wait for all of her friends to be killed, and she somehow survives, and the slasher story. She's pure, she's a virgin.
14:47Nope.
14:49Hayden:Nope.
14:51Uh the girls select princess costumes while Lori dresses up as Little Red Riding Hood, a devout Halloween traditionalist. Lori misses trick-or-treating and is uncaring of her friends and sisters' talks of dates. The girls go to pick up dates and head to a bonfire party in the woods. Lori stays behind and joys the town festival instead. Later on the way to meet up with her friend, she's attacked by a man in a vampire costume who they show already killed somebody. Yeah. Yeah. With his like incredibly detailed vampire prosthetic team. Right. Which we're able to like puncture puncture.
15:22Hayden:Yeah, he's just biting all over this girl till she bleeds out. Yeah. I guess she's the doesn't notice till the Yeah.
15:28Yeah, she's just like so in it to win it. She's just like, oh yeah, making it out with a stranger. This is crazy.
15:33Mitch:And she's like, you know how sharp that would have to be to not notice? Oh, it hurt. Yeah. There's like you just bite your lip on accident. Oh like there's no way.
15:40I mean, in every vampire movie, when it happens, ladies like, yeah. So it's kind of like so Lori gets attacked by the vampire guy, and then she arrives with the injured, frightened vampire who turns out to be the principal. Yeah. Which I thought was funny. Yeah. Lori, having decided to take part after what happened in Greece to join the party under the light of the full moon, the girls all shed their clothing and skin, grow fur and claws and tails as their heads become lupine, revealing themselves all as werewolves.
16:08Hayden:They just eat all the boys.
16:09Well, I guess at first I was like, Where's the dudes? And then I was like, Did you see the throats ripped out? And I was like, oh, and I thought they were vampires at first, and then like they all started like with the eyes. I was like, okay, they're vampires. And then it's like, oh no, like, no, no, they're werewolves.
16:21Mitch:I was like, oh okay. Well, I like because like when they first get their costumes, she's like flirting with this random guy that's the cashier. Yeah. And then the other two go and pick up these two random guys that are loading up cables.
16:31Yeah, I just thought they were hoes.
16:32Hayden:They're honeypoting their uh their food.
16:35Mitch:Yeah, they need somebody that would just easily say, Yeah, I'll go with you.
16:38Hayden:Yeah.
16:40Hey strong guy, you want to go to a party? And they're like, uh-huh.
16:43Hayden:Like the fat cupid guy. Yeah.
16:46Mitch:I found you a date. I'll you see that one? Yeah. He just sitting up there against the corner. But I like how when she uh she basically like leads the the serial killer vampire guy to the woods.
16:59She following beats him up and like memes him and launches him into the party. Because at first, like you think it's gonna be her, and then it's just like, oh, and then she comes out, it's like, what happened? It's just like yeah, yeah.
17:09Hayden:Yeah, she comes out, she's all like sexified. Yeah, got that wild hair. Like, it's my first time. Liar!
17:18Mitch:Bear with me. She was too experienced. That was not her first time. Yeah.
17:24So she kills Steven, then they devour him, and Sam watches as the werewolves feast on the deceased dates.
17:30Mitch:I did think that was an interesting way to do the werewolves, though, like where they were like uh one of them slicing their skin open. Yeah, like one of them took their thumb and like cut a hole so the rest of them could like pull their skin off. Interesting way to do it.
17:42Which I was like, what are they doing? And I was like, oh, and it was kind of like Van Helsingish. Where he like when they were shirt, they like ripped the skin off.
17:49Mitch:Now I I do think once they showed the full prosthetic of the werewolf, it's like that was dumb. I should have just stuck with the big claws, teeth, and eyes.
17:56Hayden:But yeah, it was kind of weird. Um also I kept thinking, like, okay, this is a lot of weird stuff happening in one town, and there's gonna be a lot of missing people tomorrow. Like the principal, you know, all these kids.
18:09Kids, women, yeah, workers, news crews.
18:12Hayden:They're gonna just find corpses all over the place. Young couples, it's like gone. So what happens? It was a fun Halloween this year, wasn't it, guys?
18:19It's like, ah, they're probably just at home, or they're in the drunk tank at the jail. And we get to Sam, uh footy pajama.
18:28Mitch:Yeah, with the like the sackcloth over his head.
18:31Hayden:The spirit of Halloween, I guess.
18:33Mitch:Like Sam Payne, you know.
18:34Oh look at that. Mr. Krieg, the curmudgeony Halloween hater, dresses up his dog to scare trick-or-treaters off his doorstep. Which those kids, I'm just like, there's no. It's like all those, like that house is like he's not participating in the way it's like but like everybody knows that house.
18:52Hayden:When you run out of candy, okay, and you turn your lights off, there's still kids that come to your house. Yeah. And you're like, take it to hint, kid. That's why if I had some sort of kid torture device to scare the crap out of him and chase him off, I wouldn't feel bad about it.
19:07But you do that every year. Even if there is candy.
19:11Hayden:Not anymore.
19:12Not since the lawsuit.
19:16Mitch:I did that one year when we my uh wife, when we first got married our first year, I was sitting on the porch in a rocking chair, and like this little bitty kid came up, so I didn't want to scare us, I just sat real still. And the dad knew I was real. This the kids just standing there next to me or nothing. Well, these other girls that had been scared wouldn't come up to the thing because they they thought something was gonna get them. They'd heard people screaming. They come walking up, and about the time they get like three feet from me, I don't say a word, I just move, and they freak off, scream, and I just go back to sitting there. The little kid looks at me, looks back, because they didn't
19:45Mitch:see me. So I just stay still real still, and the dad just died laughing.
19:51Hayden:Used to have like uh you know those like giant trash bags that were like jack-o'-lantern, yeah, and you put your leaves in it. I would hide in one of them and cut it slit in the mouth, and then like reach out and grab people. And um I did that to one kid, and like he and his little friends, they all just collapsed, like just like goats. Like Andy's like Andy came to the room, and so like I just kept pulling this kid in, you know, and I hate him. And I was like, okay, so the movies are kind of realistic, they just give up and make it easy for them.
20:24Mitch:I remember when I was little, my dad he took the chain off the chainsaw and was just laying there, and he he'd like stuffed some straw and stuff to where it looked like a scarecrow, and he was just laying there when they'd get up on the porch, he'd crank it up. Yeah, and then I my cousin was sitting there dressed in like a ghillie kind of thing for hunting. Uh and he so he looked like a bush, and when they came up on the steps, he stood at the bottom of the steps where they couldn't get back on the porch, so they had to jump over the rail.
20:46Hayden:I had a trash can where I put some leaves hanging out of the lid, so like it was full of leaves, and I would pop out and scare people. And there's this like little like 12-year-old fairy girl, and I was like 15 or 16 at the time, and uh I I had scared all these kids and adults, and everybody was like laugh and you know, ah, run away. This girl kicked the crap out of that trash can, gave me a concussion. So good job.
21:11Fight or flight shows triggered, and she chose fight.
21:15Hayden:The little fairy costume is misleading. That was her trick.
21:20Do you have a black belt or something? I think I'm bleeding internally. Uh let's see. As the night proceeds, Krieg encounters increasingly unusual phenomena. The front of his house is egg, his lawn's filled with ornate jack-o' lanterns, the hallways and ceiling are scrawled with Halloween and Sam Hain greetings. Sam ambushes and attacks Krieg. In their struggle, Krieg manages to unmask his assailant whose head resembles a grotesque hybrid of a skull and a jack-o' lantern. Krieg shoots Sam several times with a shotgun, knocking him down.
21:50Hayden:He keeps cocking that double barrel.
21:52I know, I heard the and I was like, that sounded like a pump, and I was like, that's a double barrel. Nah.
21:57Hayden:That was the most unrealistic part of the movie.
22:01Right then I was in it. I was like, nah, nah, yeah.
22:03Hayden:That's why I dropped it like 6.7 on it.
22:05And like he shoots like his hand off, and I'm like, both barrels would have gone right into the thing's face. Yeah. Because he shoots him in the chest and like pumpkin guts and seeds. I'm like, I'd be dragging him to the fireplace. Hear the little like kid voice?
22:20Mitch:Did you see what he used to kill with before the pop sticker or before the uh lollipop? It was a piece of chocolate that had a razor blade sticking out of him. Oh, yeah, yeah.
22:28Splash his Achilles and like sliced, he almost took his whole foot off. And then we get like Brian Cos is going, nah! Yeah.
22:36Mitch:Hobbling down the hallway. Kept wheezing.
22:41You sound like Mitch. However, Sam incapacitates and corners Krieg. I love how he calls 911 and they put him on hold. Yeah. It's like, I mean, I mean I can imagine all the other phone calls. It's like, my kids are ma'am. It's Halloween, they're probably out trick-or-treating. However, Sam incapacitates and corners Krieg, who fails to get Steven to help him. When Sam tries to stab Krieg, he instead hits a candy bar which had fallen off the old man's lap. With this, Krieg accidentally gives candy to Sam, completing the tradition of handing out treats on Halloween. Just give the kids some candy. Satisfied, Sam spares a confused Krieg and departs. Meanwhile, photographs burning in the fireplace reveal that
23:17Krieg was the missing driver from the school bus classic. And then we get the conclusion.
23:22Mitch:Well, see, I I thought Sam saw the papers, and that's why he left. I didn't know it was because he gave him candy.
23:27Yeah. Because he takes it and takes a bite. Yeah.
23:30Mitch:And then he's like, all right, well, I just figured See you later. I figured he saw the paper. It's like, oh, you're gonna die anyway. So he just left.
23:38Hayden:Big gulps, huh? He he it was trick or treat. He was starting with trick, but he ended on treats.
23:42Mitch:Oh, okay.
23:43Yeah.
23:44Hayden:So yeah, uh that that part was kind of goofy, especially with like the the lollipop fashion into a stabbing utensil. Then he bit into this weird pumpkin face.
23:58So heavily bandaged Krieg gives candy to trick or treaters. He's all I was like, am I is this like the Halloween version of Scrooge?
24:06Hayden:Yeah. He's like standing all disheveled and beat up. This guy's arm is slang and like the thing around his head. He's just like throwing mints at Kiggs.
24:15Cool Halloween costume, Mr. Krieg. And he's like, huh? He's like, yeah, great mummy costume. Uh other witnesses, people upholding traditions. Billy sits on the father's porch while handing out candy. Rhonda casually pulls along her wagon filled with jack-o'-lanterns, and Lori and her friends drive by laughing to each other. After Emma and Henry arrive at the home, Sam sees Emma prematurely extinguishing the jack-o' lantern and moves to kill her as punishment. Krieg answers another knock at the door and is surrounded and brutally torn apart by the undead children of the bus as they now show up trick-or-treating.
24:50Hayden:That was funny. Yeah.
24:52Mitch:Like I said, it's not a the best Halloween movie, but it's fun to watch.
24:55Hayden:It was good. It was good. It was just like a goofy romp.
24:58Mitch:Yeah.
24:58Hayden:You know.
24:59So yeah, that's just like they had like a bunch of ideas and was just like, what if we just kind of threw it all in there and just kind of worked it all loose?
25:07Mitch:I didn't I didn't know if y'all had seen it before, so I knew like if you if it's your first time seeing it, it's a fun little movie to watch one time. Yeah. It's not something you know that you gotta go back to all the time once you figure out the story.
25:16Hayden:So I probably wouldn't watch it again.
25:17Mitch:Yeah.
25:18It'd be a lot of years probably before I see this film again.
25:21Mitch:Yeah, I mean like I'm gonna see it again. I I every now and then I'll put it on while I'm doing other things and it's just on in the background. When it's just me, because like my kids aren't gonna watch it.
25:29Oh yeah, it wasn't like you know, scary. Yeah, it was just like you know, it was a little creepy.
25:35Hayden:Uh the the guy who made it Michael Daughter Doherty. Say his last name. Dotry.
25:40Mitch:Doherty.
25:41Hayden:Okay. Yeah. He did Krampus and Godzilla, King of the Monsters. Oh, there's a trick or treat too.
25:48Mitch:I didn't know that.
25:51Hayden:Treats Reloaded. More treats. Did Superman Returns when you're doing Superman Returns?
25:56Because this was his directoral debut.
25:58Hayden:Yeah. He must have done something like Rhode. He also did something in X2. This was produced by Brian Singer. I remember that.
26:05Who did the usual suspects?
26:06Hayden:Yeah, he did the usual suspects. He did the Superman Returns movie.
26:09Mitch:Well, that makes sense for the usual suspects doing like the different parts of the story.
26:12Hayden:Yeah, X-Men uh movies, the original ones, and then uh Annapac ones, obviously. Yeah. Brian Singer still had his you know sexual assault claws into her. So that's why he's ousted now. He's been me tubed.
26:26Yeah. Yeah.
26:28Tom:Okay.
26:28Hayden:So she won in the end that way too.
26:33I feel like we the viewers, we won.
26:34Mitch:No, that's right. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. We got to consume this great content. It was something. How was your uh Lake Placid III?
26:42Hayden:Yes. I watched Lake Placid III.
26:44Mitch:His punishment from failure.
26:46Hayden:For what again?
26:47Mitch:Losing trivia.
26:48Hayden:Oh, okay. Yeah.
26:49Mitch:The uh the vampire trivia.
26:50Hayden:It was definitely a punishment. Um nobody from Lake Placid 1 or 2 is in this movie. They never are. Michael Ironside's in it. Michael Ironside is in it. For Michael Ironside. He didn't need to be.
27:02The only person you get who I've seen is in all the movies. Like that until they died. Like what uh St. Loomis? Donald Pleasants, he's in like all the Halloween movies until he actually died in real life. Yeah. And then um with uh Tremors, Bert. Oh yeah. Bert's in all of them.
27:22Hayden:Good for him. Um, so I didn't watch Lake Placid 2. I seen Lake Placid like 20 years ago. So uh you know, I guess like uh in Lake Placid 2, Betty White's character from the first movie, they just recasted her because they couldn't get her to come back. And then for three, they just didn't even try. She's just dead off screen somehow. Sure, whatever. Uh you know, so they um like her nephew inherits the cabin thing, whatever. And he works for the EPA. Yeah, okay. And uh he they uh him and his wife and his son decide that they're just gonna live out there in the cabin, I guess because they can't sell it or something. I don't know, but I I was having a really hard time following along with what correlations they made to the previous movies
28:14Hayden:and um so they they get they they move into this cabin, this kid sees like little gators, uh, you know, and he starts feeding them. Whatever, he wants pets. And uh meanwhile, like in the beginning, like that does the stupid, you know, uh, hey, we gotta show naked teenagers playing around in the lake and then have alligators eat them real quick, and they do that in like the first five minutes, and I'm like, okay, cool, they got that out of the way. And um, you know, and then flash forward two years, they're in in the cabin and this kid's been secretly stealing meat from like the local convenience store and feeding for how many years? For two years. Oh, yes, and feeding these alligators, and nobody just
28:54Hayden:seems to notice until like they decide like okay, now it's time for this to be a problem.
28:59Mitch:And uh there are signs of alligators, like even on like the bank and stuff.
29:03Hayden:You they try to explain it. They said something about like, well, they because like the cabin that big the cabin uh is not directly on the lake, and Michael Ironside is like the the sheriff that that came to town after the last sheriff died, which I guess happened in the last movie. And uh he's like, I've you know, I've I've scanned the lake three times, I've never seen an alligator or they're they're not they're called they're they're they're called main freshwater crocodiles.
29:31Mitch:Oh, okay.
29:32Hayden:Even though you can't tell what they are because it's terrible sci-fi cg. Um, you know, man, the water effects, like it it was so bad with some of these effects because like the alligator would come bursting out of the water and it would just like clip water on it, you know, like like like the movie, like the video game graphics were catching up with itself. It was just like what is it hasn't rendered yet. Particle effects. Yeah, it was so stupid. And uh all these people would make terrible dumb decisions and die, you know, and uh there's lots of uh skimpy women running around getting eaten and making dumb decisions about like like it did the thing too, where like the more sexy they are, the more
30:12Hayden:likely they're gonna die, too. Of course. So, like the more skin they show, an alligator comes and eats them. So essentially that's the moral of a story that I got, you know.
30:20Don't be naked in the lake, don't put on put on a flannel, put on some overalls and a jacket and a hat.
30:25Hayden:It'd be fine. And don't be Michael Ironside either.
30:28Um yeah, because he he he like I'm surprised his voice didn't just stop the gator. He wasn't just like, hey, and then the girl's like, oh, I'm sorry. Like Sam Fisher. It's like I'll go.
30:40Hayden:Sam Fisher's talking to me. Uh, anyways, uh so Michael Ironside apparently has like in the sheriff like vault, just all these like World War II era weapons, like pump action shotguns. Why not? He's got this like bayonet thing. It's like a it's like a pig sticker with uh explosive tip on it. He says this will decapitate a great white shark. And I'm like, what do you have at?
31:06It's like are great whites a problem here?
31:09Hayden:Yes, you know, and so he and the EPA guy decide that they're gonna like go around and uh search for these alligators because uh the EPA guy is in charge of the great elk in the area, and they've they've been disappearing, and like their little radar collars that they have on them. He keeps finding like their decapitated heads and stuff. And uh meanwhile, like the mom and the son get attacked by the gators at their little cabin thing, and they like like you know, she'll lock the door, and the gator will like burst through through a window. Yeah, you it's like trying to like break in. I could just see it like standing up and like crying on stuff like that. Really stupid. And there's this girl who's she's like the the final girl.
31:55Hayden:Uh there's a side plot of like this camping thing going on, and she's like not cheating with her boyfriend, but she thinks her boyfriend's cheating on her, so she goes off with this guy who's a scumbag. And then her boyfriend shows up and he runs into like the local poacher whose name is Reba, and uh she's like super hardcore and can kill she's talking about no, it's not Reba McIntyre, and she talks about how she worked at a zoo and uh they demoted her to uh the store manager because uh she shot the giraffe in an enclosure. Yeah, you're just like who are these people? This is some like weird alternate universe. Um she decides she wants to go be a poacher full-time, so she goes to Maine. Yeah.
32:38Hayden:To poach. Yeah, and there's a lot of uh like poachers that show up that try to hire her to go hunt something. I don't know. They don't know that there's gators, they all think that they're gone. Yeah, you know. So meanwhile, the gators are eating everybody. And uh so she takes the boyfriend out to go find her girlfriend, uh uh his girlfriend, and uh they get attacked by gators. One of them is like chomping on her, and she just like stabs it with a knife over and over again and decapitates it. And then her time he she gets chomped on, the guy tries to shoot the gator, shoots her in the shoulder, and then she stabs it and kills it. And then a third time in the cabin, she gets chomped on by a gator, she stabs it and kills it.
33:18Hayden:She's just the gator killer, and then a fourth time she gets chomped on by a gator in a in a convenience store and she stabs it and kills it. Like she's she just gets eaten like eight times. She's unbreakable. I yeah. Well, she's the only one from that movie on that's in the remaining movies. Because there's like like there's Lake Placid, this was Lake Placid III, so and then there's Lake Placid Four, the final chapter. Then there's Lake Placid V, the not final chapter. Origins. No, it's like Lake Placid versus Anaconda. Uh and then there's uh Lake Placid uh like resurgence or something.
33:50Mitch:So she signed like a four-movie deal to be in the next movie, so that's why she can get jumped on the gators in space.
33:55Hayden:It's like yeah, there's like terrible plot, like the kid's being chased by an alligator and it like bites his boot, you know. So like the plot armor saves the kid like six times, you know. And uh the boyfriend, like I as soon as he rescues the girlfriend, I was like, oh, he's gonna die. And sure enough, an alligator's like, there's a lot of like people standing and having like normal conversations, and then an alligator just like comes flying in off camera and rips somebody's head off. And you're just like, where did that where how does it fly? Where did it come from? Just flying off screen gators, so stupid. They just shake their tail really fast, going like a propeller. Yeah. Like they'll be in the woods.
34:39Hayden:They'll be in the woods, like, you know, skulking around thinking they're safe from the water, and then an alligator comes out of nowhere and eats him.
34:45Mitch:Comes out of the tree like Spider-Man. Yeah.
34:48There's like a Rambo Gator who's got like a little bandana on, he's got like mud on his snout.
34:52Hayden:There's no uniformity, there's no like like it's just you know what it's been about six and a half minutes since somebody's died, so alligator. Yeah. It was dub. It was made. I don't know if they could show nudity on sci-fi, the channel, sci-fi channel, but it was lots of that for a sci-fi movie.
35:10Mitch:Well, a lot of times I've noticed like the sci-fi channel, they'll have all that stuff in it, and sci-fi would just blur it.
35:16Hayden:Oh, okay.
35:16Mitch:Because they did that with like House of the Dead and stuff like that, too.
35:18Hayden:Oh, okay. Well, House of the Dead wasn't made for sci-fi.
35:22Mitch:Well, then they show it on there. I mean, they'll show stuff with nudity and they'll just blur it.
35:25Hayden:Okay. Well, they this was made all since late Placid 2 to wherever they're at now, it's all made for sci-fi.
35:33Mitch:I didn't know sci-fi was still a channel.
35:35Hayden:Maybe it's it's got streaming service. I don't know. It's probably owned by Skydance now. Skydance?
35:42Mitch:Oh, yeah, Sky Dance, yeah.
35:44Hayden:Yeah, they bought uh Paramount and Warner Brothers.
35:46Mitch:Oh, really? Yeah. Okay.
35:48Hayden:Yep, it's all one big thing now. So anyways, uh this movie was not the worst punishment I've ever had, but it's up there. Uh I'd give it a three.
35:58So are the Gator movies worse than the shark movies?
36:01Hayden:Yeah, um because like when you are well, I can't say that because I was gonna say, like, you know, if you're in a uh a seafaring town and and it's a shark movie, these people are aware at least that there's sharks, right? Well, this lake that's had all these gator incidents, they keep saying there's no more gators, there's no more gators, and yet people are constantly dying all the time. But they're dumb in both movies, so I don't know. People just keep like saying, like, oh, that's not what that is. Oh, this person died from whatever. Like, what look at him? He's he's got teeth sticking out of him. These are big gator teeth. Yeah. And uh, I don't know. Uh it's like the Marin Jaws.
36:47It's like this was no boating accident.
36:49Hayden:Yeah, and like that, it's so bad. Like the the like the sheriff is like freaking out about gators coming back, and uh Michael Ironside gets called to where there's a gator siding, and he goes to a gas station, this dude comes out in like a cardboard gator costume, and he's like, Oh, I came up to the toilet. Yeah, and Michael Ironside just punches him in the face. He's like, You're wasting my time.
37:08People die.
37:09Hayden:And I'm like, what is this place? Like, nobody talks like that.
37:12Does Michael Ironside get it?
37:14Hayden:Oh yeah. Yeah, he gets like uh I'm surprised at how much action, quote unquote, he did. You know, he's run kind of running around and kind of swimming a little bit, and uh, but he gets like stuck in a car and he gets knocked out, and then when he wakes up, um like there's a gator like in the window.
37:31It's like what in like Jurassic Park?
37:33Hayden:Yeah, and then it just like eats him and yanks them out. Another thing that pissed me off too is the gators like change in size, like one of them is big enough to eat a whole man hole, like you know, just like clothes and shoes and all, just like throw them down, and then uh like it shrinks in size when a little Pomeranian dog barks at the lake, it like just bites its head off. So, you know, like there's no consistency with what the size of these gators are.
37:59Mitch:So there's more than one.
38:00Hayden:Oh, yeah. It's like they don't even like let you know how many there are. It's just like you think he killed the last one, and then four more show up. Gator NATO. Yeah. I mean it it might as well have been. So they were flying out of everywhere.
38:12Mitch:Have they made that movie yet? Probably not.
38:14Hayden:Shark, shark gator NATO. Shark Gator. Shark Gator NATO NATO.
38:22Mitch:Could be a gator gator cane. Gark. Hurricane gark. Shark, it's a gark.
38:30Hayden:Yeah, that movie. Okay. So it was uh it was a punishment.
38:34Mitch:Have y'all watched or seen anything that you wanted to watch lately?
38:38Uh yeah. I started we started watching The Pit, but I think we talked about that.
38:42Hayden:Uh I've been watching with my wife Dark Matter. Have you guys heard about that show?
38:47Mitch:Is that on Netflix?
38:48Hayden:No, it's on Apple, because Apple only does good shows. Okay, no, I don't have Apple, so I I would recommend Apple like as if you want quality content, like every show that they're putting out right now is solid. So uh Dark Matter I saw when I was in Iraq the first season, and then I watched it the first season again when they put season two out, and now me and my wife are watching through it. Um and uh it's really good. It's like Rick and Morty, but serious.
39:17Okay. So is it a cartoon or is it live?
39:21Hayden:It's live. It's got Joel Edgerton from uh what's that movie with Tom Hardy where they're like USC for Warrior? And it's got Jennifer Connolly. Okay. And it's got uh uh I can't the girl from um uh the I Am Legend, the the end that rescues Will Smith.
39:39Mitch:Oh okay, I I know who you're talking about.
39:41Hayden:And uh a couple other people that you might recognize from other things. But anyways, so uh Joel Egerton plays a scientist who's uh like defunct and washed out, and he basically teaches theoretical physics at a small town college. And there's a stalker guy with a creepy mask that's like following him around, and uh he's like hanging out with his family, and he goes to like run an errand to go meet somebody and he gets kidnapped. Okay and uh the dude he wakes up in a in a different and uh in in his world, but everything's like a little off. And then you come to find out that the guy kidnapped him was him from a different world, and he took him into his world and said, you know, like what if you could have whatever you want and
40:27Hayden:uh so here's here's what's happened. It's tough to explain. It's tough to explain, but essentially uh they do the whole Schrdinger Schrdinger's box thing, you know, like uh uh superposition with uh you know anything that could happen will happen kind of thing. And uh the they figured out in uh Joel Egrington's alternate universe that he made a decision to not marry his wife and pursue uh his like like science and stuff like that. And he developed a box where if you go in, uh you take a certain drug and this box turns into a hallway with infinite corridors and two doors. And uh, you know, whatever you go through could be uh something that's like different from your previous universe. And uh so that guy he decided that he doesn't like his life,
41:19Hayden:where he's like a evil scientist dude, and he goes into the world where he wished he had married that woman, kidnaps him, and it puts him into his world and then goes and like lives his life. Right, okay. And like obviously the family's starting to pick up on things like being off and weird because he doesn't know certain things.
41:38Mitch:Right, he doesn't have the same memories as the other guy.
41:40Hayden:Yeah, and the other guy uh is in the this alternate universe, he's trying to figure out how to get back, and then the whole like the worlds and stuff that he explores on his way to try and figure out how to get back to his wife is all bananas and crazy and all sorts of cool stuff happens. And it's it's pretty pretty interesting, and it really makes you kind of like question how alternate universes work and takes it a lot more serious with a dark undertone.
42:06Mitch:So like when the large hadron collider collided two particles in our plane of existence has shifted? Yeah, the Mandela. Fruit loops are not no longer spelled the same way.
42:15Hayden:It's all about that fruit loops.
42:18Mitch:Uh did you have you seen the movie May Day?
42:21Hayden:Uh yes, the one with uh Ryan Reynolds and uh what's his name? Professor uh Gilderoy Lockhart. Oh uh Eric Browner. Kevin Brown. Kevin Brown.
42:33Mitch:Kevin or Eric? Is it Kevin?
42:35Hayden:I don't know.
42:35Mitch:I watched it yesterday. I thought it was kind of funny. It was okay.
42:38Yeah, I mean are you thinking Eric Banna? Maybe I don't know.
42:42Mitch:Yeah, I mean it it's not like a you know award-winning movie, but it was kind of fun to watch. Yeah. Because basically, like this uh it takes place during like the Cold War, and Ryan Reynolds is a pilot who flies a blackbird that gets shot down because the person flying while he's taking pictures is stupid and gets him shot down. Because instead of in a blackbird, instead of just outrunning the jet that you can outrun the missiles in, he decides to slow down and try and bank to lose this guy. And the whole time Ryan Reynolds is in the back going, That's not gonna work, that's not gonna work, and he gets shot. It's like, wow, it didn't work, who'd have thought? Yeah, it's like we're in the fastest plane ever made.
43:19Mitch:So he lands in the woods of you know, in the in the woods in Russia, and this one guy finds him, and then when Ryan Reims wakes up, he's like fixed his uh leg because he got stabbed in the leg with a uh a tree. And this guy is like the biggest fan of Top Gun. Yeah. And he wants to live in America and go to McDonald's and travel across in an RV.
43:39He's like, I want the pickup truck and I'm gonna raise rabbits.
43:42Mitch:Pretty much. He uh so he's like this big fan, so he tries to help him you know stay alive and try to get out. And so like the whole thing is just him trying to find a way out of the country while this guy's like helping him, and then you know eventually they're fanboying the entire time. Pretty much and and when this guy helps him, you find out. I'll just go ahead and spoil this part. He's an ex-KGB agent. So he's like beating up people all over the place.
44:07Hayden:The action's good.
44:08Mitch:They start like the very in the very beginning when he first wakes up, he tries to leave, he goes to this bar, and there's like three other guys. Like uh Russian guys hear him talking and realize he's American, so they kind of like corner him. Well, this uh the KGB guy shows up and just beat the crap out of all of them. He's like, okay, maybe we should go back to your cabin. He's like, all right, we'll go with your plans.
44:27You seem to have a handle on this situation.
44:29Mitch:But I mean, it escalates the whole time. Like the he wants to go back and they tell him, Oh, well, you can't bring this guy with you because you know we're not gonna get you know approve his visa or whatever. So it goes all the way to the point where they're driving a nuclear warhead towards the towards the uh the perimeter.
44:43Hayden:Yeah. It it it's definitely it spirals. It's it's wild.
44:47Mitch:Because like when they grab this truck, they're like, oh well, the Russian guys won't shoot at it, they don't want to blow up.
44:52Hayden:That is true.
44:53Mitch:So it's like yeah, so they're they're chasing in cars, but they like they don't shoot them, so they just keep driving and crashing into stuff. It's a it's a fun movie to watch. It's like I said, it's not award-winning, but it was a fun watch.
45:03Hayden:It's uh it's definitely Ryan Reynolds character the whole time.
45:07Mitch:Have you ever seen Hitman? Yeah. It's kind of like that.
45:10Hayden:Where he just has like goofy comedy and action and like the Ryan Reynolds shtick was funny, like in the Deadpool era, but like he does the same thing in every movie now.
45:21It's just like it's just like this weird blur of like Van Wilder and Deadpool. Where it's either like fourth wall, or he's like, write that down. Or he's just like, you know, like I'm I'm Van Wilder, I could do whatever I want.
45:33Mitch:It is a fun watch just to watch one time. It's fun.
45:36Hayden:Yeah, it was fine. I mean, uh, like I said, like uh every once in a while, um uh Apple will put out a like a movie that's like big budget and all sorts of like they did the The Gorge.
45:47Mitch:I haven't seen that one yet. I I wanted to see it.
45:48Hayden:Yeah, it's pretty good. Anna Taylor Joy and uh Miles Teller. Yeah, it was alright. And um, you know, on top of their shows that like I just can't get enough of. Like their shows are the uh shtick. Have you seen that one? It's um Owen Wilson and he's like a defunct golfer. I hadn't seen those.
46:10Mitch:I I hadn't seen any of the shows, I just watched the that movie the other day.
46:13Hayden:And then you know, Ted Lasso and all the classics and stuff that are on there. It's a it's a really good like I I don't know what Apple TV's doing, but apparently a lot of people say that they lose money on on their shows, they just do it because uh you know they want to keep good reputations with the producers and whatever. And I'm I'm here.
46:29Mitch:I mean for I mean for it to be like considered TV shows, they have a lot of big name actors in them.
46:33Hayden:Yeah, yeah, Widow's Bay was an amazing show. I can't recommend that enough. Um, so yeah, I would I would totally like and it's shows that like me and my wife both enjoy. So, you know, a couple of shows.
46:46What does uh Apple TV cost you?
46:49Hayden:15 bucks a month. I don't know.
46:50That's not bad. That's on the logo. It's like I don't know. It's like you sign up and you just put auto pay on and that's how you run it. Yeah, yeah, that's how you do it. I did watch a good sports movie. What's that? 61. 61 What is that? It's uh the year it came out. It's about uh Roger Maris or Mickey Mandle in the 61 season. Oh, I don't remember. Where Roger Maris was the first one to break Babe Ruth's home run record, and how like the all the Yankees, like fan base and like Major League Baseball, the commissioner, like all these reporters, like they're all like hell bent on him not doing it. Because like everybody, like a lot of these older dudes are live, like they remember Babe Ruth. Yeah, like they knew him, like they remember when he broke the
47:30record that he originally set to in 1927. They're like against him, like he's getting like death threats.
47:36Hayden:Is he black guy? No, white guy. Oh, he's a white guy, okay.
47:40But he was also like the AL MVP the year before, like when he came to the Yankees, and then like him and Mickey Mantle just start like cranking out home runs because like both of them were kind of slumping, so they switched them into batting order, and all of a sudden, like they're hitting like multiple home runs like a week, and they're just like they might break the record, and then they're like, hang on, like if they he if he doesn't do it in the original amount of games it took Babe Ruth, it doesn't count. Like they that's the reason why it's 61 with the asterisks, like and he did it in the right, he he broke the record on the last game of the season. Okay, but uh Thomas Jane plays Mickey Mann and um Barry Pepper
48:16plays Roger Maris.
48:17Mitch:Okay.
48:18And it's not just about constantly them playing sports, it's you know, Mickey Mannel's like you know, drunk driving and like carousing and running around, and like all the injuries he had, and like you know, him and Joe DiMaggio hate each other, and like the Yankees like organization, all these people like coming down on him, and then you know, them playing baseball, and it's like Mickey Mandel, like they had like him and like another player, like they like kidnap Mickey, and it's like you're gonna live with us. Like, you need to knock this crap off. It's like you have like the greatest talent ever, and you're blowing it. So like they like sober him up pretty much, and like he's playing better and like doing good, and then he gets like this
48:50like injection of like meth. It was like the miracle shot, like the investment, or you know, like all this like crap like goes into his thigh, and like it's like rotting away. Wow, like he's like up at the plate, like he like blew out his elbow. He he hit a home run with one arm and hit it like 450 feet. And he did it like from the other side of the plate, like because he was a probably the best switch hitter of all time, and uh shooter McGavin's like the Yankee announcer, but it's also like that era where they had that it's like up now is Mickey Manhall, eh. Let's see how old White he does.
49:25Tom:Think more hovelting.
49:27Mitch:Hovelting brought to you by the Yankees. Well, why while you're talking about sports, I saw I was watching one of the football games over the weekend. How am I supposed to talk about it while you're talking? It was uh uh was it the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks? They were playing, and Mike Evans is like the top wide receiver for San Francisco, and he's playing, he's having a great game. Well, then one of the cornerbacks for for uh Seattle makes a good tackle on him and he gets up and gets in his face, he's hollering yelling. And it was funny to watch on live because like he's hollering and yelling at him, and Mike Evans looks at the guy, stops, grabs his shoulder pad, turns and looks at his last name.
50:03Mitch:When the guy realizes he's like, Who are you, you know, basically saying, Who are you? Who are you? He pushes him off. Well, later on, he had a press conference. He goes, Yeah, I just couldn't tell who he was, you know, wearing the helmets. It's hard to see who faces are. He just played it off. Like everybody in the audience that's asking him questions, just laughing, but he just like played it off, like, oh yeah, I was just trying to figure out who it was that I was playing again. Yeah, it's like, who are you? It was funny to watch it live because like the guy didn't realize what he was doing until after he'd done it and then pushed him away.
50:27You see, like there's a bunch of reactions to I mean, I'm a Giants fan, but the Giants Redskins game ended in a tie. Ended in a tie because a guy doesn't know how to read a clock and it was Dan Quinn Coach in Washington who blew the Falcons Super Bowl.
50:42Mitch:Well, I don't think that's not on him, that's on the quarterback.
50:44Hayden:I didn't know football could end in a tie.
50:46And the pros can in the regular season.
50:48Mitch:In the pros they can. If it goes to overtime and nobody Yeah, they get one timeout, or they get one overtime, and then if it they don't score in overtime, it just ends in a tie. But that that's on the that was on Jalen Daniels. He can say what he wants, and everybody can say whatever they want. He's the quarterback, he's in control. They had like a minute and something left, and he just took his time.
51:07But because like they're like down at like the 30. Yeah, they could have kicked a field goal in one and and been over. And everybody, like Giants fans are watching, like losing it because the Giants were getting their butts kicked. Yeah, and then start like what uh Jameis Winston throws like three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to tie the game to go into overtime, and Cam Scattaboo, who's like a concussed honey badger in in a football pad, fumbles. And everybody's like, geez, no, it's just like we just had this great comeback. Like, this is supposed to be awesome, and it goes into overtime, and the Giants fumble, and then Washington gets it, and then Jade Daniels is like and like he's like laying on the
51:38ground with like 10 seconds on the clock, and everybody's just like grabbing him, and they're just like, What are you guys doing? Like people are screaming at this idiot.
51:46Mitch:To explain to Hayden, like, because you don't watch football, I do not. These guys they were the Giants were going down the field, and they were within you know enough. If they kick a field goal, they automatically win the game.
51:56Tom:I know that.
51:57Mitch:Well, instead, they decide to run the ball one more time, and the guy gets hit, fumbles the ball, the other team gets it. Yeah, so there's like a minute and a half left. They drive all the way down the field. If they kick a field goal, they win the game. They're in field goal range.
52:09They punched deep into field goal range.
52:11Mitch:And then it's like they get into field goal range and they just stand there and they stood around waiting for the play for like 20 seconds. Then they get up there. Yeah, they get up there, there's like 17 seconds left. He runs, and instead of throwing the ball away to where the time stops, he he runs, just like falls down. So the time just keeps going, and then he just gets up real slow and watches time run out. It's like you idiot.
52:33Well, it's like both of you, you you both deserve to lose. What was great was like Dan Quinn like throwing his head and just like screaming on the sidelines. I was like, that's what you get. Yeah, you idiot. And also as a Giants fan, it's like didn't lose. It's like 3-1 in one, man. Still bleeding the NFC East. Still looking at the positive way.
52:52Mitch:Stock it, Dallas.
52:54Or Philadelphia.
52:55Mitch:Uh well, did you y'all watch anything else? Have y'all have y'all seen Resident Evil? No. No. Okay, I won't talk about it then. Uh, okay.
53:02We start we started watching that show, The Pit, which I think you would.
53:06Hayden:I have not seen.
53:07Have you seen it? I've seen one episode. I tried to get my wife into it, and she just she got grossed out. It took a bit because it's you know, medical drama, you know, I love Scrubs. There's mixes of humor, but this like Scrubs was like funny, and then they'd hit you with with gut punches or stuff in the face.
53:23Mitch:I think this is more of a like a more serious grave.
53:26This is more serious, yeah. This is like more serious, like, you know, then like there's little lighthearted moments, but then it's like right back to like, oh, this kid drowned. Okay, he this kid's brain dead. Yeah, it's like, oh, this overdose, like dead. It's like, and then there's like the guy they call like the Kraken, who's like some like meffed out dude. And like this one poor kid, like this is like all happening, like the first season's one day, yeah, like on shift, and like each episode is like an hour block of like you know, seven to eight, eight to nine, and like he gets like bled on, peed on, thrown up on. Like it's just constantly this dude like going to like the scrub vending machine to get new ones, and it's just like it's
54:02like you just feel bad for him. Like, we haven't, I think we're on the season finale for the first season. Um, it's not bad. Okay, it's alright, it's gripping. It it takes uh probably two, three episodes to really kind of isn't it like a 20 episode season or something like that? It feels like it. Yeah, because they already season two's out.
54:19Hayden:Yeah, it's like a procedural uh where like they never stop shooting the seasons. It's like constantly cranking them out.
54:27Like there's no like off time where like you know, you see their lives outside of what they're doing. Yeah, like you know, they go home.
54:32Mitch:Well, see, yeah, I didn't know it was like hour by hour for each episode. I just figured it was just just like you know, this happened this day, this happened this day, you know, kind of thing.
54:40One day.
54:41Hayden:One day.
54:42Mitch:I saw the show Lanterns.
54:44Hayden:I did too. Uh I like it. It was it was better than I thought it would be. I still don't trust Damon Lindelof. I think that he's a terrible writer.
54:51Mitch:I mean, I I like the idea that granted I wasn't a big fan of the way they did Superman, like this is established in the world and Superman's been there, but I did like the way they did it here for Hal Jordan. And uh, you know, they kind of explained his background as the series went on.
55:05Hayden:Yeah, there's some um some weird tie-ins to uh the the sheriff lady that fled Gotham.
55:12Mitch:Yeah, she was Kate Kane.
55:13Hayden:Okay.
55:15Mitch:Which is Bruce Wayne's like cousin.
55:17Hayden:Yeah.
55:18Mitch:She she ends in the comic, she ends up being Batwoman, but I mean she's not gonna be that here because she's already a little older.
55:23Hayden:Yeah. So like Batman's established too. Mm-hmm.
55:25Mitch:Because they they mentioned, you know, his uh his light in Gotham. That's where Guy Gardner got the idea of to have his own light. Yeah. I want a light. He has a light, I want a light.
55:34Hayden:Uh the uh like the intergalactic politics of how the lanterns aren't as uh uh like the the complete good guys. Right. Like they they still are kind of bureaucratic in how they do things.
55:46Mitch:Well, I mean they kind of view it the way some people view police. Like, you know, they some people like police, some people don't. So like they kind of do that the same thing with the lanterns.
55:54Hayden:I thought that they were gonna lean towards the yellow lantern towards the end.
55:57Mitch:Eventually, I mean that'd probably be in season two. Okay. Because I mean that the Sinestro, he is the the one like in charge of the Yellow Lanterns. And I don't from watching it, I can't tell if he's already a Yellow Lantern, they got caught and he's in prison, or if he this is the part where he just betrayed the Green Lanterns and they had him in prison.
56:14Hayden:And is the Manhunter, is that like an established thing?
56:16Mitch:Yeah, but they're I I didn't know they could uh change into other people. I just thought they were like these uh like red robots that they went out and destroyed uh Sector 666.
56:27Hayden:And I was confused about how the kid came around uh without spoiling too much. Maybe we'll talk off.
56:34Mitch:Yeah, so but I I did like uh they had several shots where uh uh Jon Stewart, like um if y'all watch the animated series of Justice League, right? Yeah. There were several shots where like at the beginning he's walking, he's got this like long black coat, just like in the the uh the cartoon, there's a there's a uh scene where he's walking down the sidewalk where he gets out of his truck, has that long black coat on, and he's walking. It reminded me a lot of the cartoon, which was pretty cool.
56:56Hayden:Yeah, I think the dude plays Jon Stewart, does a pretty good job. Yeah.
56:59Mitch:Uh he nails that kind of like militaristic, like even-toned kind of thing.
57:04Hayden:I'm I'm there for it. I'm excited about season two. I like the idea of uh Hal Jordan and like his weird banana storyline and wherever they're going with it.
57:13Mitch:But I like the fact that they're keeping Jon Stewart as like the main Green Lantern. You're like, you know, because Guy Gardner shows up for a few you know bits here and there to talk to talk to him and stuff, but he John Stewart's gonna be like the main Green Lantern of Earth. Yeah. Well, I won't spoil it, but yeah, he'll be Earth and then uh you have other stuff going on too. But I liked it.
57:33Hayden:Yeah, that's pretty much all I have seen recently. I watched Narcos again for funsies. Um I love that show. There you go.
57:48Tom:Okay.
57:48Mitch:Well Entertain this dot app. Go listen.
