A cute baby chimp in a diaper is the most dangerous kind of marketing. We dig into Chimp Crazy, the Tiger King-adjacent documentary that turns “exotic pet” curiosity into a straight-up ethics alarm, as we follow Tonka’s…

0:01Hey. Hey, good.
0:04Tom:Is this our original? Yeah. Wow. What a throwback. I was there with the dark magic. I was there when the show was written. unknown: Yeah.
0:18Hayden:Just do that in there for a little fun.
0:19Tom:Remember when the When you did movies and you had to watch three films in a week?
0:25Hayden:Three TV shows and three games.
0:27That was uh that was a yeah, that was a pretty dumb undertaking.
0:30Hayden:It's amazing we're still here.
0:32And we would like, uh you're gonna play this game. What was it uh like the trucker game? Big rick!
0:39Tom:Big Big F and Rig. I had to think it only worked if you went backwards.
0:44Yeah. And I had to like download viruses on my computer to play it.
0:48Tom:Yeah, Soda Drinker Pro.
0:50Oh man. You know, you could beat that game just by like letting it just putting your controller down.
0:56Tom:Just going into a diabetic coma, his foot gets chopped off.
0:59That was a dumb game.
1:00Tom:Or Rubik. Shaq uh basketball.
1:04What was that like actual like triple A game where if you let the opening credits play and you don't move, you can win like within the first 15 minutes? Never heard of it. Was it a Metal Gear game? Sounds like something stupid.
1:17Tom:Like it was It was a game like you were just like, really? Yeah.
1:21That was Yeah. Maybe it was Skyrim. Was it Skyrim? Or Fallout or something? I can't remember.
1:29Tom:I don't recall.
1:30I don't know. Anyways. Hello! Welcome to Entertain This, a podcast about movies, TV shows, and video games.
1:35Tom:And nostalgia.
1:36Yeah. My name is Aiden. With me at Mitch.
1:39Tom:Hello. And yeah. Hello.
1:43He's gonna be doing Tim Curry for a while.
1:45Tom:I never I've never done Tim Curry, like impressions.
1:50Yeah, we uh, you know, our last episode, we let's just be honest. We went off the rails a little bit. It was fun. It was fun.
1:59Tom:We got a little too carried away.
2:00Uh that being said, though, uh back to our usual format uh news and reviews. Yeah. But before we begin, social media Mitch. All right, Tom! Well, Hayden. So uh I had to watch a show.
2:15Hayden:Skip over you can go to entertain this.app. That'll take you to our Instagram, TikTok, uh, YouTube, Mitch's only Facebook. Hey, you know, money's money.
2:27Tom:20 bucks is 20 bucks.
2:29Hayden:But the entertainths.app will take you to our website, which gives you all that. You can take trivia from the uh the podcast and try your hand at it. Uh we've got a lot of news that you can look up, different things, you know, just to kind of contribute and have a little conversation, have a little fun. So give it a shot.
2:44Tom:Yeah. Yeah. Give us five stars and subscribe. And Mitch will send you pictures of his feet. And if you don't, we'll send you pictures of Hayden's feet.
2:58They don't want that. I got them boat feet. Okay, so I watched a show that Tom made me watch because of trivia stupidity. I was light to you. I was nice to you. Honestly for some reason. So the show is called Chimp Crazy, and it was made by the guy who did uh Tiger King. It was actually pretty, pretty interesting. I I I like a good documentary. And this was a good one. It was four episodes, not too long. It was enough for me to be like, wow, I wonder what happens to the next episode. And then when it was over, I felt like it was over. So but it was made by Eric Good, the guy who made Tiger King.
3:36Tom:He's doing um Monsters of God right now.
3:38Yeah. And this dude is a uh he he's a conservationist. I think he did some like music videos and stuff, but like he's known, I guess, professionally as a conservationist for I think turtles. I think he likes turtles. Yeah, he's big about reptiles. I think he likes to like toil.
3:54Hayden:I like turtles.
3:56Yeah.
3:56Hayden:Did you just notice I did? I thought it was like fish or something. I wasn't paying attention. Tav's got a turtle shirt on. Uh but anyway.
4:03Shove these turtles polo. So Jim Crazy is like a very necessary succession to uh Tiger King. Yeah. Uh it's not a huge story, but it is enough to make it like people aware how easy it is for people to like buy monkeys.
4:21Tom:Or how easy it was.
4:22It's still yeah.
4:24Tom:Like pretty much since these documentaries, laws have been passed.
4:27I I would hope so.
4:29Tom:Because I think even during this show, like a law was passed. There should have been a law passed when that lady got her face ripped off, but that's besides the point.
4:36Anyways, so it follows uh this lady named Tanya Haddock's. Okay, she is crazy. And uh she more or less started like she kind of hit a midlife crisis and started working. She had monkeys, like little campuchins, like capuchins.
4:53Tom:Yeah. The monkeys from like parts of the Caribbean. Right. Like we named the monkey Jack.
4:59Yeah, not Jack, it's Jack. Uh so but then she goes to a uh a conservation land, I guess you could call it.
5:06Tom:It's kind of like a like a like a sanctuary kind of thing.
5:08It's more like a dungeon, but uh it was really the monkey prison. Yeah. Jojo who was in a bunch of movies.
5:21Tom:Um in like some commercials. The monkey was getting worked.
5:25Yeah, you see you've seen it. You've seen it at some point in your childhood, I promise you. Um well so at no point does anybody overtly admit that they're like sexually attracted to monkeys, but it it it toes the line. What the Yeah, it gets kind of out of control here and there. Um, you know, uh but there uh this lady who's like in her 40s, you know, pushing 50 and has had every plastic surgery known to man done to her, decides that she wants to like take over this con the sanctuary and had that that Connie Casey leads like old and she got in trouble for something. Um I can't remember, but she didn't want to do the documentary. So she signed the the the land over to Tom to Tanya. And Tanya loves attention because she loves plastic
6:11surgery, and uh she agrees to do this uh this documentary, not with Eric Good, but his proxy director.
6:19Tom:The crazy dude from yeah monsters of God. Yeah, yeah. Like they just show me he's like a clown, he's been to prison. They show he's like a cowboy hat on, he's bald, he just has like that wild look. He could be sitting with like a giant snake, but they were just like, Hey, we want you to do because he's I think he's in Tiger King, too.
6:36Hayden:Moral of the story if somebody's job is a clown, it's because they couldn't get a real job because they've probably been to prison.
6:40I mean, he worked for uh uh Greenling Brothers or whatever.
6:44Hayden:Yeah, and John Wayne Gacy.
6:46No, he didn't. No, he was just a clown. Yeah.
6:48Hayden:Oh, well, that's what I was saying. If he was a clown, you know, they'd probably been to prison.
6:51Yeah, don't poop on all the clowns. They had it hard enough after it came out. Yeah. All right. Anyways, killer clowns from outer space. Um, so this guy was the right amount of crazy to be the proxy director. He did a good job as a proxy director. He did, he didn't ask any any like like leading questions, he asked questions that are appropriate to make everybody believe that he would be the director. And then every time it got crazy, like out of control, like he could be in danger, he just didn't care. So it but, anyways, so uh they start, you know, kind of understanding her infatuation with uh with Tonka, and then uh PETA gets involved. Because PETA, yeah. Well, to be fair, Peter, I'm I'm not a PETA.
7:33Tom:Watching this, I've I mean I never really liked PETA just because of like a lot of their tabloid non-pretty good points, but they made a lot of great points, and they were right. Yeah, they were like, no, people do not need monkeys as pets.
7:45No, so Pita get PETA gets involved, and their like legal team is apparently phenomenal, and they get all the monkeys like seized from uh Tanya and they were okay with it when it was Connie, because I think she had been doing it for like 40 years.
8:01Tom:I guess I think she had like certification or right, and and Tanya does not. Tanya is just she's just some a lady that took over the monkey. She's just some lady from Ohio or something who just loves monkeys more than she loves her kids.
8:12She would say that.
8:13Tom:She said she said, and like they show her son and he's like dirt.
8:18Uh but so they get the uh uh court order to take the monkeys and they dart the monkeys, like they tranquilize them to transfer them, and then like I guess she's got like nine chimps, and they take they can only find eight of them.
8:31Tom:And then there's seven monkeys, but one's missing.
8:34So like she says uh, you know, yeah, she says he died, and she has to like explain herself to court, and she like has all these crocodile tears and you know goes off and on, and like as soon as the uh court is in recess, she stops her camera and she's like, Did that go pretty good? You think that went pretty good? Like, it's obvious.
8:54Tom:She says something, and the judge goes, ma'am, the audio is stolen. Oh, yeah, yeah. But she doesn't go, you think they bought it? Yeah, yeah. Which would have been great.
9:02Yeah, yeah. So like it's it's just she's not a real person. I'm convinced.
9:06Tom:She's like some character that the only reason you watch is me and my wife watched it because we were train wrecked. Because we're watching Monsters of God, and then we saw that, and like we just started watching it because I like I I hate monkeys, they're dumb animals, and like they put it on, and we're just sitting there and we just couldn't stop. Yeah, yeah. Just and when they she shows the um the because that she says they cremated right. It's like it's my my wife just goes, That's just cocoa powder. She's like, That's hot chocolate.
9:35It has like a weird hue to it. And they and then like PETA gets his like uh forensic anthropologist. He's like, Here he gets like a whole bunch of cow meat bones and he burns it down, and he was like, This is what's left over, and you know, it's like uh bone residue and like not granular, it's like like misty kind of.
9:53Tom:Well, he they do like the two-part product, they put it through the crematorium first, and like the guy brings out big bone chunks.
10:00She said that they burned uh the monkey in a fire pit that got up to like 190 degrees in their ninety.
10:07Tom:Yeah, and everybody's like you can't even cook steak that that's not hot enough.
10:11And they're like, Oh, we forgot the zero, it's uh 1900 degrees, and they're like, okay, it's a little high for us bonfire. Yeah, yeah, how do you get that at that hype? So, and then the guy's like, like, this is designed to burn away cadavers, and there's still bones left over. So, for her to say that this fine powder is that's BS.
10:30Tom:Well, because they do the second part where the guy takes all the bones and they put it to like another thing that like pretty much pulverizes it right into a fine powder, but it's like stark white, right?
10:41And it's still not perfect, like you know, uniform right.
10:44Hayden:So let me guess they find him like chained to a don't kill me.
10:49Tom:Like they showed, like they go through like filming like where these monkeys are originally held at that Connie Lady's place in Missouri.
10:59You can just be stuck on tip curry for a while.
11:01Tom:No, I've always said Missouri like that in a fun way. I do that, you can ask my wife, I do that at home for no reason. Just how he is. You were watching the show, it's like uh Missouri. Do declare. But like they show like the monkeys in like chimp prison. Yeah. So like the comments. They wouldn't let the Tonka one out because they said he had like a stroke and he was like having all these heart issues, and they're just like, you're not qualified to even say that.
11:28It's funny because like they showed the monkeys in like the Connie prison, and it they had some free range, like they had like a tunnel system where they could go from one cage to another cage, but that was about it. Yeah, and then uh they kept saying like Tonka had to be secluded from all of them because he had a health condition.
11:44Tom:They showed him like just like trying to rip his way out because they show one and you watch the monkey like rope swing like straight at them and just face plane into the plexiglass. She's talking about just trying to kill him.
11:57She's like, she'll like let him hold her hand and then they'll like they'll try to like rip her fingers off for the cage and she'll like jerk it away. She'll talk about how they throw poop.
12:05Hayden:Well, they're just playing.
12:06I'm like, how why would you want to do this? You know, and then like pay to do this.
12:12Tom:And because like the whole business planet was like baby baby chimps.
12:16Chimps that are like I said, after five years old, they become too violent because they've hit like teenage years.
12:20Tom:They be yeah, they become unstable and they get way too strong way too quick.
12:24Yeah, and and Tonka is like 200 pounds, and he the big he's like 20. And they talk about in the in like the history, all these monkeys that have attacked people. And uh, like this one lady raised a m a monkey, he got to be like 250 pounds, and uh her best friend came over and had a tickle me elmo, uh, and the monkey like saw the elmo, lost its mind, and ate her face. And like they thought she was dead. The cops came, killed the monkey, and uh, you know, like apparently her face was so messed up that everybody, including the doctors doing surgery on her, needed to see have like like you know, mental health because like her lower jaw was removed, her nose, both of her eyes had been removed.
13:09Tom:Do you ever seen the preacher?
13:10The the the dude with the butthole for her face? Oh yeah. She looked like that afterwards. Yeah. Yeah.
13:15Tom:So it took nine of her fingers.
13:18And then they asked the lady, like, you know, hey, would you do you regret having that monkey? And she's like, I regret what happened, but I don't regret my time with I think the monkey's name was Travis. Yeah, Travis. You know, uh, because she's had 30 years of sleeping with that monkey.
13:33Tom:Like the monkey had his own room, like he lived in the house.
13:35And he they slept in the same bed. Yeah. Gross. Very gross. And uh before she died, that lady got another monkey. Yes, these middle-aged white women are crazy. Oh, yeah, we'll chimp. We've established that. I'm telling you, when your wife hits 40, keep her away from a zoo. Uh yeah, I don't know what's up with that. Entertain this advice.
14:01Tom:If you're married, don't let your wife go to the zoo. She turns quarter.
14:05I think that monkey's looking at me. No, no, it's not time to go.
14:09Tom:It's the 20 to 30, you know, or pretty much most of it, you go to the aquarium, you'll see these women. Right. Because they'll be right up against the glass. Looking at the well. Like the fish is like looking at him. It's just like, he's looking right at me. My wife points them out. If we go, she's like, look at her. There's like there's another one. Look at her, there she is. She's like, she's waiting for the turtle. And like the turtle comes by and she's just like, oh.
14:32It's one-way glass. Anyway, so uh they go into like stories about how monkey monkeys have like you know, maimed people, you know, nearly killed them in the past. Or killed them. And they have they were forced to kill the monkeys because like it's brutalized people and the cops aren't gonna like do anything besides shoot it. Yeah, and all the owners at the time are like, shoot the monkey. Like they don't they just want it dead now. Yeah, and uh, you know, so everybody's like narrative on everybody should have a monkey quickly changes as soon as it rips somebody's face off.
15:05Tom:I'm like with good reason. Me and my wife were talking about it's like it's funny if like you know, because a lot of these monkeys, like they were like in town, like these small towns, like they would take the monkey. It's like the monkey like ages like one to five. Like it's funny the monkey walks in with a tie and a top hat on, and it's a little monkey with a diaper, just like, hey, yeah, all cute and kind of cuddly. It's like that's funny, yeah. But when they're 300 pounds, yeah, and can like flip a truck, or like the one cop, like the monkey ripped the door off the police car.
15:32Yeah, he said he said he didn't I didn't want to shoot it until uh it ripped my door off.
15:37Tom:And I I was like, he he said, like it's it's like he's he's like I he like communicated mentally with like the monkey was like, do it. Like that's good enough for me.
15:47I mean, what I don't know, like even if it was a human being and it had quote unquote murdered somebody and they were strong enough to rip your door off. I think you're justified to shoot that guy. So let alone a monkey. So I hope so, because he's getting shot.
16:01Tom:Yeah, that's I think you're just justified to just shoot the monkey.
16:04Yeah, anyway, so uh Tanya, meanwhile, hiding the monkey at like some house. Uh her house. No, it was her friend's house that had another monkey that died. So well, because they show him at the end building like his start she's trying to rainbow enclosure. She's trying to like build this thing, but like they do a lot of investigation throughout the production of the um of of the documentary to find out that she's like not spending money on a monkey. And like her story is kind of sketch. Like if she loves the monkey, quote unquote, she's really neglecting it by like locking it into a basement. You like you the documentary people will be in the living room of the house trying to talk, and you're like breaking
16:49and shattering downstairs. And they're just like, oh, he'll tie her out in a minute.
16:54Hayden:Uh and and see a hand come through the floorboard.
16:58The crazy proxy director guy like gets this like uh conflict of like uh ethics, and and he's like, uh, I I think like for the monkey's sake, we should let PETA know that she's because like they're they're filming her harboring this you know illegal monkey.
17:15Tom:Once they show like the the second episode at the end where they go downstairs and like there's the monkey, and like then they show like he's on the phone with Eric Good, yeah, and they're just like crap.
17:25Like, what do we do? At first I was really annoyed with the documentary that they were uh putting their production staff into the documentary, but once they basically put they they have to characterize themselves in order to talk to PETA because they are like the the machination that makes the documentary go forward to where Peter finds out where the monkeys at. They're the ones that leaks the information. And there's actually a really interesting scene where he, Eric Good, is talking to like a very famous documentarian for natural whatever and uh says, like, I I don't know what should I do. And the guy's like, Well, typically, you know, you stay out of it. It doesn't matter what happens to nature or what your subject
18:02that you're documenting, but for the monkey's sake, because he's already in captivity, I don't know. You know, you should probably consider it.
18:09Tom:Because it was like, you know, think of like what's already happened. Right. Because they talk about Travis the monkey ripping that woman's face off, and then the other one in like Oregon or something or Washington that like almost killed that lady's daughter. They they they they blaze, they like they kind of glaze over. Um that cop's body cam was hilarious. He's like, I'm gonna go engage the monkey.
18:30Yeah, he just lifts his rifle and they cut it off. But you're like pow pow. He's like monkey down. He's like, he's down.
18:37Tom:Like that cop was just like he was like fed up. He's just like rolling out there, he's got his AR, and he's just like shh. And it's just like, you see him? Yeah, I see him. And he's like, I'm gonna try to get a shot on him. And he's like going, shh, shh, shh, hey, and ear boy, pow, pow! And he domes the monkey. Jeez.
18:55But uh anyway, so uh they they basically decide that they're going to need to report this to Pita, and they go to the lawyer guy, like the top lawyer guy, and they replay some uh voicemails or uh recorded audio of her talking to him, saying that they're holding Tonka in this place. And the guy, like even the lawyer guy's like very stoic and doesn't emo for anything when he hears it, he's like, Oh my god. Like the first time he shows emotion the entire document.
19:22Tom:Because he just goes like he was like, it was like he's like, I knew it. He's like that crazy blonde bimbo.
19:30Yeah, he's like, This is exactly what we needed. And then uh, you know, she tries to fight it and all this other stuff, and to take her to court, and more stuff happens. She's lucky she didn't get arrested. Uh she's also lucky for all the other shitty stuff she does because she like uh you know will sell for like three thousand five hundred dollars.
19:47Tom:I like to point out he's swearing.
19:50What?
19:51Tom:Didn't she just say S-H-I-T-T-Y?
19:54No. Yeah. I didn't uh I didn't play back. But he he also like sells, she points out that like uh she sells like these monkeys, like the campuchins and whatever, all these type different types of monkeys to people for like you know, tens of thousands of dollars. And that can't be illegal. However, she gets these monkeys to begin with.
20:18Tom:No. So uh but they have like baby clothes, like whole things, like you know, like they dress up the monkeys, like it's like this whole thing. Like there's like even one lady she was like breastfeeding the monkey.
20:29Yes, that is really weird. But bite it off and like I mean like baby, like still infant monkey.
20:37Hayden:Still the infant doesn't know it might be.
20:40The documentary people try to like play like a neutral ground, like the people who have monkeys that are out there right now are like, oh yeah, they're a part of the family, they're not an animal, you know. They're they call them uh what do they call them? Chimp chimp humans or humanzies. Humanzies, yes, they had some dopey name. Yeah, because they're like half monkey, half human. And like, no, not when it rips your face off. Yeah, they might be.
21:04Hayden:According to this lady, yeah.
21:05Tom:Well, anyways, yeah.
21:06Once the monkey rips off your husband's hand and he's beaten him to death with his leg, it's I I don't think Tanya was having relations with the monkey because she was she was too scared to like be in an enclosed area. And the one time she tries to get into an enclosed area after they take Tonka away from her, she goes to another place where they have a chimpanzee. She gets inside and it bites off part of her ear and her finger and like breaks her hand and her ankle. And she's like, you know, I shouldn't have gone in there, and like, no doubt. What makes you think you're like okay to be around these animals? And then they show Tonka and the Pita monkey place, and it's like paradise for monkeys.
21:46It's this beautiful island with all this expansive, sprawling, no human intervention besides like the little terrain things that they built for it, and they just let them live there.
21:55Tom:Maybe a little clean up once in a while.
21:57You know, and I'm like, that's I I get. That they were born born and you know raised in captivity, so that's probably like the best thing that you can do.
22:05Tom:Yeah, because they don't have the skills to go back into the wild.
22:08So uh in this documentary, I side with PETA, which I never thought I would say, but like yeah, they uh they definitely did what's best for the monkey in that situation. And these crazy people don't need to be around monkeys, you know. I'm I'm sorry.
22:21Tom:Like I wouldn't even let you have goldfish.
22:23No, I wouldn't I wouldn't let her watch my dog, you know. So like it's it's weird. Uh but yeah, it was an interesting documentary, and it's just crazy that like these people exist and they're all around you. You know, I I remember I had a neighbor in Florida that lived like a quarter mile away from my house, and he had lions, because it's Florida. And uh just what to do down there. And I would be in my bed trying to go to sleep, and I'd hear like off in the distance, you know. Hayden's scared.
22:54Hayden:Some getting scared of thunder, Hayden's scared of the monsters living down the street that live next door to him.
22:59Yeah, so it was a rough job, but and then Hayden's just going, The Lion complete leaps. It wasn't the show wasn't as good as Tiger King. Um because it didn't have enough content, I think, to be on par, but it was good.
23:18Tom:I think if you like Tiger King, you should watch I feel like in the hierarchy of watching this Eric Good guy stuff, you know, the you got the Tiger, the big cat people, you got the monkey people, and then you got the lizard reptile folks, the monkey people are at the bottom.
23:33The lizard reptile people. So like Tiger King, if there was other crimes involved, they didn't talk about as much as they do in uh uh the the God monsters of God stuff. Because like reptile is like the gateway drug for like smuggling crimes. Eventually they bring in drugs and murder and all this other stuff, you know.
23:55Hayden:Well, since y'all both watched it, what would y'all rate the the documentary?
23:59Tom:Uh I'd uh I give it like a seven, seven and a half.
24:03That's pretty fair. Okay.
24:05Tom:That's pretty fair.
24:06It's I think it's an important like apparently this animal stuff that's happening. I guess people need to know about it because it's it's going on. And if you actually care about animals, you shouldn't tolerate this kind of stuff, you know.
24:18Tom:I think she's in prison right now. Is she? Yeah.
24:21Hayden:I saw like a social media video where this guy, these two guys are playing like Xbox or something like that, and all of a sudden this giant lion walks around, gets up in his face, and he's like, get out of here, and like stembo, or whatever they call him. He's just like ah, like mouthing the guy's shoulder. He's like, get up, get out of there. And then eventually he just lays down in front of him watching him play. It's like what are you doing?
24:42Tom:It's like, is it cool? Yeah. Until he eats you, but no.
24:48You've ever like been in your house with your dog, and your dog's just like on the other side of the room, and you're watching TV, and it and you look, and your dog's been staring at you for 10 minutes, and you're like, what? Licks his lips. It's like you're like like like what are you looking back past you? Like, what are you looking at? What? Like that's normal dog behavior. I could blink! Blink! I couldn't imagine a lion or a tiger so or a monkey. Rip my face off. Apparently, like people's fingers just snap like carrots.
25:20Tom:Oh yeah, apparently monkeys like they go for your eyes and face and your hands. Yeah, like on purpose. Because even like uh the second one they talk about, the girl didn't die, but the monkey like was biting chunks out of her. Yeah, yeah. And the guy's like it looked like like a shark attack.
25:37Yeah. So no thank you. No monkeys in my house.
25:43Hayden:Well, I watched a movie. What'd you watch, Mitch? I watched an animated movie. An R-rated animated movie. Batman Nightfall Part One. Who voiced Batman? Uh Anson Mount, the guy yeah, the guy from uh the Star Trek Strange New Worlds. Yeah. And it was a really good, uh, really good movie. Like it's it pretty much takes the cart or the comic like scene by scene, which you know, it's an older comic, so modern day, like you know, younger people wouldn't have probably read it, unless they're just like huge fans. But it does a good job of like a lot of times in movies, Bane is either smart but not as strong as he would be, or he's just like this big dumb oath like in the Batman and Robin, where he just runs into a wall.
26:27Hayden:But in this one, like pretty much it follows the comic where in the whole part one that they have, it leads up to the confrontation between him and Batman for the first time. But the whole movie, he's just breaking uh prisoners out of Arkham, and Batman has to stop like all of his nemesis in the one week. And so, like, by the end of the week, Batman's like struggling just to stay awake, and then when he gets, you know, and then Bane shows up. Yeah, Bane shows up and he he has to confront him at that point where he's already like tired. And but this takes place during the same time that uh Tim Drake is robbing, so it's involved with him. They uh they have Azreel, which is a guy that starts off as like
27:07Hayden:this religious killer that's like you know, almost like Punisher style killer, like he's an anti-hero kind of thing, but then he's like mind-controlled by this religious cult. So that Batman's trying to help him out of that because they they realize he's not bad, he's just kind of been brainwashed. So he's that, and then uh because if you it'll if you look at it, the part two, uh Azrael actually becomes Batman for a while for reasons in the movie, but uh it's pretty interesting. Is part two out? Not yet. It's supposed to come out before December.
27:40Oh, okay. Is there only two parts?
27:42Hayden:There's three parts because you have this where Batman comes into confrontation with Bane, Azrael takes over as Batman, and then Batman has to stop Azreel because he's lost his mind again.
27:52Does Anson Mount do the uh Clark uh Bruce Wayne voice in the Yeah, he does both. I mean, like, does he like do the the what's the guy's name?
28:01Tom:The Christian Bell? Kevin Conway. Kevin Conroy. Oh, Kevin Conway. Um a separate voice for Batman.
28:07Hayden:They are they are different voices, not a whole lot of difference. You it's almost just like a little bit slightly deeper for Batman.
28:13Commissioner Gordon.
28:15Hayden:And and because of most of the movie, Batman's like exhausted, so it it sounds a little different, but it's not too terribly s different. Like, you know, the the tone's pretty similar.
28:24Tom:Batman, your voice sounds different. I've been punched in the neck a lot this week.
28:28Hayden:But uh it's a good movie, it's it's pretty graphic, and it deals a little more with mature themes, like where uh Batman's actually seeing a therapist, like as Bruce Wayne, he's seeing him, and he's kind of revealing different parts of like why why he's there and why he has this savior complex, even though he shows everyone else he's like this playboy, but the therapist can kind of see through it. And then it it's it's hard to tell like without explaining what the conclusion is.
28:55Tom:I mean we all know what nightfall is. I don't know. I haven't seen it. He doesn't. Oh the nightfall storyline.
29:02Hayden:Who else is in it? Uh let's see, as far as characters or actors. Uh let's see, they have really I don't recognize most of these.
29:13No, no, okay.
29:15Hayden:Um Michael Mando is Bane. Oh yeah. He's the guy that plays Scorpion and the Spider-Man new Spider-Man.
29:20This guy he he was blacklisted for a while. Um he was on uh I think it was uh Better Call Saul. And they had a uh falling out on set with him for something. I think he was labeled hard to work with. And then he kind of came back again.
29:37Hayden:Pablo Schreiber, which plays uh chief chief and the bad one. Uh he's uh John Paul Valley, which is as real. Uh let's see, who is Tim Dre? unknown: Tim! Jack Giffen? I've seen him in something, but I don't remember. Jack Giffin. It's not a real name. You made that up. Alright. But yeah, most of them are like people that I don't really recognize for the most part. Like there's uh Simon Templeton or Templeman. You don't recognize that guy?
30:07Tom:I don't mean the Simon Templeman?
30:09Hayden:Alright.
30:10But it's a good movie. Uh I'll give it a watch at some point. Town. Hayden. What have you watched and or played?
30:17Tom:I've been watching Scandal with my wife. She started that, so Scandalo. Scandal. That Shonda Rhymes show that has m been off the air for many a year now. Isn't that an older show? Yeah, I think Carrie Washington.
30:31Shonda Rhyme. She does like uh Grayson Anatomy stuff. Okay, so it's just girl drama.
30:36Tom:And it's girl, it's uh Carrie Washington plays uh this woman who's like a big time like Washington DC fixer.
30:45Yeah.
30:45Tom:For you know, when politicians are sleeping around or doing god-awful things, you know, treason.
30:50But doesn't it like does it because Shana Rhymes is known for her show as like spiraling out of control.
30:55Tom:We're starting to spiral.
30:56Oh, okay.
30:57Tom:We're starting to spiral. We're in season three now, I think we just hit. Yeah. So she's doing that, she's having an affair with the president. His wife is pregnant, the first lady. There's all this political stuff. They hacked voting machine. Uh voting machine. Like every five votes for a Democrat equals two, but the Republicans get three.
31:19Okay.
31:19Tom:So they break down the So the Republicans are the bad guys.
31:22Yes. Gotcha.
31:24Tom:So watching that, and I was like, we're sitting there watching, and the show came out probably in like 2008 or something. Or 2012. 2012.
31:32That's about the time House of Cards was a big deal, wasn't it?
31:34Tom:Yeah. All the political Which was weird. I bet like it didn't do well because of House of Cards. Might not have. But watching the voting election fraud thing, I was like, I wonder if they planned that for 2020. Yeah. They probably watched the show and went, I have an idea.
31:53I don't know, man. I saw that one like I think it was the pilot for Grey's Anatomy where the dude's got a rocket launcher in his chest, and like she has to help the EOD guy, the explosive ordinance disposal guy remove it, remove it through surgery, and then like which is like it's in his chest, so he's he's dead, you know, but he's not dead, so that they do it, and then the the guys like they they start to have like a fling, like her and the EOD guy, and he like walks down a hallway and she's like sees him go by and kisses him goodbye as he walks and explodes. Oh, really? I don't know. I'm just joking. Cindy across the building and stuff. And I was like, what in the world? What is this chaos?
32:37So because it was like girl, like you know, dollar store romance novel stuff with just bananas explosions that come out of nowhere. And I was like, nah, I'm good.
32:48Tom:I'm good.
32:49I mean, they play heavy on the romance card. My wife will tell me about it, uh, Gray's Anatomy, because she watches it and she's like, Yeah, this person died. Uh, a helicopter crashed into them. And I was like, What? Like, yeah, they were outside and the helicopters are just run out of the sky.
33:02Tom:It's like we need to kill this guy off. What haven't we done yet? No, we haven't done a helicopter one. All right, book it.
33:07And so I asked her, I was like, who's still alive from like the first season? She's like, Gray. She's the only one.
33:13Hayden:I watched that movie or that show. My wife would be watching it, and I'd just be listening. You know, there's some wild things like that keep people alive, and this is like you you punctured his lung, but somehow you kept him alive with like a banana pin. Yeah. Out of out off the wall stuff.
33:28House was like that a lot too back in the day. You know, house started to get a little wild. Okay, yeah. I'm injecting them with syphilis because it'll counteragent this uh weird disease. And like, what? There's no there's no discussion, he's just doing it. But he's gonna be alive. It's like, house, you're out of your mind.
33:45Tom:You're damn you're good. But the show hasn't gone like off the rails. We're getting there. It's you know, it's a TV show, it's kind of you could tell it the budget's pretty low.
33:55Yeah. What network? What network was it? I don't remember. Um what are you watching it on? Uh, I think we're watching it on Netflix. Okay, so it could have been from anything. Uh oh, hang on. I had the page up for the monkey. ABC. Oh, okay. Yeah, ABC's not known.
34:11Tom:Seven seasons.
34:12Seven seasons, golly.
34:14Tom:Well, from 2012 to 2018.
34:16Hayden:Yeah.
34:18Tom:It's it's okay. It's one of those shows like I had no interest in watching it to begin with. But if it's on, you kind of can't help but watch.
34:25No, you know what I mean? There's only one reason you're watching it, Tom.
34:29Tom:Because I only have the one TV in the living room.
34:34Go ahead. Just be honest. Why are you actually watching this show?
34:38Tom:Because it's on the TV in my living room where I'm sitting.
34:40Because you didn't choose this show. No, my wife chose exactly. And you watch whatever she watches.
34:48Tom:At the present.
34:51Hayden:This was back when I still had like 20 22 episodes of season two.
34:55Yeah. Yeah, it was like serials that never end.
34:58Hayden:Yeah.
34:59Tom:And in the quest to find a show for my one-year-old or was he 14 months now? Yeah. To watch. The only show that he will actually pay attention to is Thomas and Friends. But like the original ones were like Ringo Star, George Carlin, or Alec Baldwin or narrating. So in the morning, my wife probably just hears the bane of existence because I'll he'll wake up and I'll go get him. And then she just hears the living room dun dun dun dun dun dun dun.
35:27You should watch uh Pokemon or something with him. See flashing lights attracts him. I've tried to get my son.
35:33Hayden:I've tried to get my son into like the more the newer Ninja Turtle ones, like the animated ones. It was like 2012. He still wants to go back to Bluey, Peppa Pig, or Blaze.
35:41Tom:They're making a we tried a Bluey movie.
35:44Hayden:But they're doing it CG.
35:45Yeah. We tried Bluey.
35:47Tom:He could not care less. Blues Clues does not care. Um whatever. I I tried regular show. Yeah. Just because there's more, you know, adult jokes. Uh Ed, Ed, and Eddie. Nope. Thomas the Tank Engine. But not the animated one, the actual like model trains going back and forth with the sinister looking eyes.
36:05Hayden:Well, see, I have got him on the right path. He likes uh, what was it, the Spider-Man, his amazing friends? It's like the little kitty Spider-Man. That's uh but if I can get him there, I'm working, I'm trying to get him into the 1990s Spider-Man cartoon.
36:16Tom:Oh, yeah, where Aerosmith does the intro.
36:18Hayden:We started watching the first episode, and he was like, Dad, can we watch the other one? I was like, okay.
36:23Well, the other one's got another season coming out. It does. Oh. Yeah. There's a lot of uh interesting stuff coming out. Uh we we all know about Avengers and then uh Dune part three, which is weird because they wanted to wait ten years to let the actors age up. Yeah. But they're just gonna make it work.
36:45Hayden:Well, I mean, they're we have the technology to make them look older.
36:48I don't I don't think I think they're just gonna rewrite it where this happens a couple years instead of like 10 years. And then um uh that Star Wars Starfighter, yeah, Ryan Gosling, which I have hopes for it. I just everybody dies.
37:02Tom:It's gonna sound somewhere waiting for Kathleen Kennedy to just he's not even involved anymore. I that's what they that's what they want you to think.
37:09Hayden:I I don't well get it, yeah. Of a Ryan Gosling movie that I don't like, that I don't find at least entertaining.
37:19That's that's fair. Yeah. Uh have you ever seen like even his weird movies?
37:23Hayden:Um the one where he's got the fake girlfriend. Yeah, that I I love that movie. Oh, it's funny. I was like, because I remember you showed it to me. We're like, I was like, what are we watching?
37:32So stupid and bizarre. It's just but it's it's fun.
37:35Hayden:Um basically takes a sex doll and just turns it into his girlfriend. He's not even having sex with it. Right.
37:40He's just he's just like like autistic and can't socialize with people. So he uses her as a vessel to like hang out in public, and everybody just like is happy to see him outside of his house, and so like playing. They just play along with him. What is that movie called? I can't remember.
37:58Hayden:But like he'll be sitting there eating.
37:59Tom:Just don't type in like Ryan Gosling's sex doll.
38:02Hayden:I will.
38:03Tom:You is Google Safe Search on?
38:05Hayden:Well, he'll he'll be sitting there like having dinner, or like they'll be sitting there on the couch watching a movie together. It's like, what is going on? Huh? He actually has a dinner party with some like his best friend and his best friend. Bard's the real girl. That's what it is. It's weird, but funny.
38:20Tom:You know, if they're gonna make clue the movie, he could be in it. He should. Yeah. He could be Mr. Green.
38:26Yeah, I could be go home and sleep with my sex doll.
38:31Hayden:Um, but anyways, she won't say no. Or have a headache.
38:37Anyways, uh I'm gonna wash my hair. Uh other than that, like the Marvel. Have you seen that they planned out the phase seven for Marvel?
38:48Tom:Yeah, it's it's I saw the trailer for the doomsday thing that they had on Prime or something, or HBO, where you could watch like the big trailer.
38:57Hayden:Yeah.
38:58Tom:And just watching through it, I was like, I don't care. I do.
39:01Hayden:I know you do this. This is supposed to consolidate all the mess that Marvel is right now with all the different times. Instead of having Sony's X-Men and you know, Sony's Venom or you know, Fantastic Four in this world, it's all gonna be one world, one continuous story.
39:28So they they leased this like threat level of the bad guys, and Loki was a city level threat.
39:35Hayden:Oh, I saw that. That's way off. Is it yeah?
39:38Tom:So I hope Loki saw that and went city level. Yeah.
39:40Well, and then uh uh Ultron was a world level uh threat. Yeah, and then uh Thanos was a galaxy level threat, and then uh apparently Doctor Doom is a multiverse level threat. No, no, no, well, who's a multiverse level threat?
39:56Hayden:Like the beyonder. No. Or Galac well, not even Galactus. I mean Franklin Richards.
40:02Yes, he would be. So uh Galactus is gonna be the next Avengers threat, right?
40:08Hayden:He would I would think he would have to be. He would eventually come back for Franklin Richards. But see, like uh Doctor Doom, he's a threat, but the only way he would be multiversal is if he gained like all the infinity stones. Because like Loki is like the master of time right now.
40:23Has there ever been a Doctor Doom variant that's like as powerful as they're making him out to be?
40:27Hayden:Well, there is in the uh in the Secret Wars or the Battle World that they this is kind of like he gets an infinity gauntlet and basically he becomes for lack of a better word, God. So he makes the battle world.
40:40You think that that's where he's going with this?
40:42Hayden:That's the only way I think that he would become a villain in this storyline.
40:47They destroyed like this universe's infinity stones.
40:50Hayden:Well, there's every universe has its own infinity stones, and then you have in the what if, which is supposed to be tied into the actual Marvel, you have the Ultron that could uh was it it was uh Ultron that captured all the infinity stones from like the multiverse or whatever. He had them.
41:05So yeah, but you can't take infinity stones from one universe to another universe, it doesn't work.
41:10Hayden:Well, some for some reason I can't remember.
41:12Well, they took different ones from time.
41:13Hayden:They ex yeah, they explained, but that's the same universe though. They explained it in this in the what if thing, which is supposed to tie into like the multiverse, that this one Ultron had gems that for some whatever reason worked. I just can't remember what it was. So they tried to explain it, yeah.
41:28I don't know.
41:29Tom:Because even in like the Loki show where like he opens a drawer and there's just like all the infrared stones, like multiples of each, and it's like, oh yeah, some guys use them as paperweights.
41:38Yeah, yeah. So like I think they just have to kind of keep like we're beyond retconning, we're just like unwriting written rules that have been unwritten 10 times in the past.
41:49Hayden:Well, see, like I mean, going forward, they're gonna have this, but I think they're gonna focus on smaller scale stuff, like with the X-Men. And then they won't be worried about so much grand scale until like an Avengers movie.
42:02If they made Gene Gray like Phoenix and they made that an Avengers level threat, that would be interesting.
42:08Hayden:Well, see, even in the comics, most of the time the X-Men take care of that.
42:11I would I I think it would be cool if they just like let her unleash and just like make her go crazy.
42:17Hayden:What would be cool is because they want to have the Avengers and the X-Men in the same world, there is a comic called X-Men versus Avengers, where the Phoenix force is coming to claim a host and they assume it's gonna be Gene Gray, or there's a character called Hope, which is the daughter of Gene Gray and uh Cyclops. Well, it's coming to claim that. Well, neither side wants the other side to have it. Yeah. Because the mutants claim it, you know, that's their right. It's like a mutant celestial that comes to them, and the Avengers are like, no, it's too powerful, you can't have it. So then they kind of get to a war. Well, then I forgot who, but somebody throws like the first shot, and then all pandemonium breaks out on like the mutant
42:52Hayden:island.
42:53Also, that they've announced all the X-Men, but they haven't announced their uh Wolverine yet.
42:57Hayden:Well, Wolverine and uh Hugh Jackman and Huge and Deadpool Huge Jack Man. They're they're both gonna be in the Secret Wars movie. So it's not Secret Wars, uh Doomsday.
43:08Remember when uh uh Hugh Jackman was like, I'm never gonna be Wolverine again after Logan? He's like, that's a perfect ending.
43:14Hayden:They played they paid him plenty of money.
43:17Tom:And they were like, we're gonna keep writing a number.
43:20Yeah, and eventually we're gonna get to the one you're gonna be like adding zeros, and you say when. So well, okay, that's uh, you know, movies that are coming out. Um speaking of games, Wolverine! I I was gonna say TV wise. Oh, okay. Uh the really the only TV show that I'm excited about is Neuromancer. And that comes out at the end of the year. Do you know who what neuromancer is? I do not. So nineteen eighty four, a dude named William Gibson wrote a book that blew everybody's mind. It was so um what's a book that like Just too, you know, ethereal, too, too hard to The Silmarillion. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. All right. It should be animated. So like there's too much like interpretation going on.
44:15And that's uh Neuromancer. And they said, kind of like Dune in the early days, they said that this movie cannot be adapted, or this book cannot be adapted. Well, they're doing it to a TV show. And I think that's a smart way to do it because it's a very complicated book. And you really have to like let the scene settle on some stuff to understand. Neuromancer was made uh before the internet was like a public known kind of thing that people could uh understand and use. And essentially he coined the term cyberspace, William Gibson, and he saw the internet as a physical realm that people would plug into and be able to like manipulate and walk around as like they are in the real world. And um he developed like the term net runners and uh you know
45:04uh jacking in and all this stuff that people have used and and stolen from him to make into their own franchises, like the Matrix and Cyberpunk and all this other stuff. So he's like the godfather of cyberpunk and honestly like uh tech sci-fi, you know, Johnny mnemonic and all this other stuff that came out that that's all from William Gibson. Um including The Matrix. So to see like what his masterpiece to be adapted into this TV show, it's exciting. And then and they seem like from what I can tell from all the production notes and stuff that they've allowed the public to understand so far, they're doing it right. It's gonna be kind of like a grungy uh CD underbelly noir thing, but it's also a heist uh movie or show.
45:49So it's uh it'll be cool how they do it, you know. So I I'm I'm excited to see it, and uh, I think you guys will two, if you just kind of go in with uh zero understanding or expectations because they gotta they gotta you know explain everything to you.
46:04Hayden:I think I found the wrong one. It's a 2026. I realize it says tie now.
46:08That says necromancer. You need to type in neuromancer. Oh, well, that's what I thought.
46:14Hayden:Anyways, this necromancer TV show, a gangster inherits mystical tattoos. How do you inherit mystical tattoos? Yeah, you don't inherit it.
46:21Tom:Like, look the guy who had it last like slices it off his arm and gives it to you.
46:27Hayden:Inherit mystical tattoos.
46:28Tom:I know, that's stupid. Okay, anyway. There's another uh big show coming out that I know you guys are excited for because it means I will have to watch it. What? The Rings of Power season three.
46:39Yeah, yeah. That show is still going November 11th. That show is still going. You haven't even finished season two, have you? Yeah, I didn't.
46:44Tom:I have seen every episode of this show and I've hated all of it. Good for you.
46:51I do think that the uh Gandalf origin story is stupid. Well, it's stupid, but it's it's something. It's interesting. It's stupid. I wish they didn't like try to make it like this isn't Gandalf and then oh psychic really is Gandalf. I think they wrote it that oh crap, we just have to make it Gandalf.
47:08Tom:Yeah. Because nobody believes us.
47:10But like him crashing from space and being like Dumb. Dumb. Okay. Well, I'm sorry. I don't know. Maybe if this does good enough, they'll have an honest depiction of the first age somehow.
47:27Tom:See, I don't think they could do it. It's too like ethereal, but it's also vague.
47:34I think that if you it's intentionally vague. I think if you solidified a specific battle or something and maybe made a movie or something out of it, yeah. You know. But also that like the Lord of the Rings franchise is so right heavy right now. So like you can't say hobbits in the show. And you can't do other things. No, because they didn't get the rights. Right. So so some parts of the Lord of the Rings franchise you can buy the rights to, otherwise, you have to buy the rights to other stuff, you know. And it's that's stupid how that works. It's such a mismanaged property.
48:07Tom:Well, not for the the the estate, because they're making bank, they're laughing all the way to the bank because even like all the great Lord of the Rings games, Lord, you know, Two Towers, Return of the King, Conquest, you know, Battle for Middle Earth 2, all these games, like you can't like like even the Lego Lord of the Rings game. Yeah, they can't be remastered, they can't be put out, the servers are already shut down because the licensing agreement is expired. Yeah, them and EA. It's it's over. It's like the only way you're playing it is if you just still got a PlayStation 2 and the game still works. Yeah, I'm sure I'm sure one day and the best I can get is Dwarves and Moria. That's not like true rage horror and there is a Lord of the Rings
48:45Tom:fighting in the column. There is a game.
48:47There is a Lord of the Rings game coming out, isn't there?
48:49Hayden:Yeah, it's gonna be an open world. Uh I forgot who uh is it Moria? The people that made no, they already made that. Oh I want to say it was the people that made maybe Elden Ring. No, no, it's not from software. Maybe it was some from software. No, it's definitely not from software. It's it's uh I can't remember what it was. If it was like Fallout or it was some big company that's made open world games before, is uh making this one.
49:11Hang on.
49:11Hayden:And it's supposed to be Oh, Kingdom Come Deliverance, the people that made that. Okay. The they're making a Lord of the Rings game.
49:18Tom:That's a game I have that I played like five hours of that I'm like, I wish I just had days to sit and just sit and play that game and learn it.
49:28So Warhorse Studio. There's no name for this yet. Um it's just Lord of the Rings Middle Earth. That's what they're calling it right now.
49:38Hayden:I remember something that I'd read about it.
49:40They said that you'll be able to walk the entire map of a deep immersive open world RPG set in Middle Earth during the third age.
49:50Hayden:And supposedly, like, granted, it's not in the books, but they said you'll have you'll be able to walk a little further east into the Easterlings area as well.
49:57Crystal Dynamics is developing it. They're the guys that made like the Tomb Raider series and stuff.
50:03Hayden:So it doesn't say exactly what time during Middle Earth, it just says it'll be an open world.
50:08Tom:Because there was some group that they were remaking Lord of the Rings Conquest, which was this because Conquest was done by the guys that did the first two battlefront games. They were like, let's do this, but with Lord of the Rings. I mean, the game's kind of janky, and it's the if you're like the rogue or you know, spy guy with like the twin daggers, you can backstab everyone in one shot.
50:30I like that game.
50:32Tom:That's it's like, oh, Gandalf. It's like bye boy. And then like they were do uh they were doing um, we talked about it on the podcast. Um, they were putting through like a what Unreal Engine 5? I think so. And like they were putting out stuff, you know, hyper-realistic look. It looked really cool, but they already got like sued, or like you know, a cease and desist because they can't use Lord of the Rings, they can't use the title of the game.
50:59Are they selling it?
51:00Tom:They're still working on it. Are they selling it? They're gonna try to.
51:03Well, they can't sell it. They're trying to remat, well, they can't profit off of it.
51:06Tom:Then they're just gonna put it out for free. It's just a passion project.
51:08Yeah, and maybe like people will donate money to their company for funsies and you know, whatever.
51:13Tom:It's like they're ripping everything straight from the pre Peter Jackson, like they're remaking like Minasterith like life-size to person.
51:19I dig the uh the concept of like these you know, garage developers remake because like they did uh Ocarina of Time, there was a Unreal Engine 5 uh demo of Ocarina of Time that came out recently. Um and I was like uh there's gameplay of it shown all over the internet, and then instead of Nintendo suing them and telling them to stop, they announced that they're doing their own remake that comes out this year. And so like Nintendo's just like shoved them out of the way.
51:48Tom:It's like, oh yeah? Well, we're gonna do it.
51:50Yeah, so uh I'm like cool, because I would like to see of all the games that have been remade, I've always wanted to see Ocarina Time, and I'm excited about that. I'm not I'm gonna get a Switch 2 just for this game. So all right, uh on top of those games, here's some other stuff that's coming out this month. Crimson Moon. Do you know what that game is? I do not. So, you know, think of like uh it looks pretty good. The gameplay seems pretty good. A lot of people are really who are doing these souls-like games, are doing a really good job with coming up more um intricate animations for all the assassinations and stuff that you do instead of just the same thing over and over again. What's that game that came out just now?
52:36Um The Blade 2 um the Dark Blade or something like that. It's it's another Souls-like game. I don't know. Well, uh like that, everybody's raving about that game right now.
52:48Tom:And it's it's a complete ripoff of so I mean you had like these Dark Souls games in the 2000s, and then even some in like the 20s, like what I think Bloodborne.
52:57Yeah, well Ghost of Tsushima.
52:59Tom:Well, Ghost of Tsushima was a different company. Bloodborne was from something. Well, wasn't it considered like Souls-esque? Yeah, it was, yeah, absolutely. And then you get Elden Ring, and then suddenly it's back in major popularity because it was a mainstream. I mean, the the the Souls format has been around, that's why everybody says Souls-like. It's like there is no difficulty, it's just get good scrub.
53:18Yeah, yeah, and a lot of game developers are doing that. China's got this game coming out that looks amazing.
53:24Hayden:It does. And I forgot the name of it, but it looks awesome.
53:27Yeah, China. And uh, like everybody wants it, it looks like a complete ripoff of Elden Ring, like the same animation styles and everything. Based in like Chinese lore and that kind of stuff, you know, with like some Western dragon styles and stuff.
53:40Hayden:But the uh the action looks a little cooler.
53:43It does, and it's co-op. And I like to give the uh the concept of play play this adventure with your friends stuff and all these games that are coming out, struggle with your friends. I I dig that. We struggled. Oh, we have but we uh we availed, yeah. But we prevailed. There's a term for that now. Uh uh what's that called? Uh friend. Um I can't remember. There's a new genre of like co-op games that things I don't remember.
54:14Tom:For just suffering through yeah, yeah. Well 30 plus boss fights in a row against the same person having to hear I am Millania latem.
54:21Hayden:Well, while we're on this, Elden Ring actually has a new DLC stuff coming out. Does it really? It comes along, it actually came out this month. Oh, did it uh because it came out on Switch 2, they have a tarnished edition, which they have made available for Xbox One and uh Xbox Series X and PC uh PS5, but it's not technically new levels, it adds uh few new characters, uh two new starting classes, new character armor, and you can customize the horse now.
54:48Tom:Wow finally.
54:55Hayden:But it's kind of interesting that you know they're still putting out stuff for that.
54:59Uh yeah, I mean, I'm sure they're they're cranking away at Elden Ring 2 right now.
55:03Hayden:Oh yeah.
55:03I'm not gonna lie. But uh and the movie. Uh yeah, the why is it a movie or a TV show? Movie. Okay. Uh next other game that's coming out, which is out today. Uh Crimson Moon came out yesterday of this recording.
55:17Hayden:As of 9-2.
55:18Yeah, and uh Moonlighter 2 comes out today of this recording, which is essentially like a dungeon crawler puzzle solver, I think, for uh but a uh roguelike, which means that the maps constantly generate. I know people throw out these like genres, it's a soul-like, it's roguelike. Roguelike means that the if I play a game and you play the game, it'll never the the terrain will never be the same. I don't know if you knew that or not.
55:44Tom:Yeah, like one of the Elder Scrolls games was like that.
55:48Roguelite?
55:49Tom:Yeah, I think it was not Daggerfall, it was like one of the early, earlier ones where the map would constantly like if you wherever you went, it would re-render itself, like wherever you were going. Like, and like the map expanse size was massive, so it wouldn't render it if you looked at the like it's you had to go and it would do it.
56:08I think a modern uh like thing that uses that mechanic a lot is Hades, Hades is in Hades 2, um, which uh I really enjoy. Uh the next game that comes out tomorrow of this recording is Blood of the Don Walker, where uh it's a bunch of people from um I can't remember the name of the company. Oh yeah, CD Project Red. They uh they did The Witcher, uh they broke off after The Witcher 3 and started working on this game with their own company. And you play a vampire that's been recently infected in an but you're like some sort of mutant, and you're basically blade in daytime. You you're that's why they call you the dawn walker instead of the daywalker. You're you can walk around as a human in a daytime.
56:50It's patented you can walk around as a as a as a human in the daytime, and at nighttime you can be a vampire and all sorts of abilities, you can you know become more monstrous, and but like the decisions you make uh impact how the people around you react to you.
57:06Hayden:So it's like and how the story ends.
57:07Yeah, so it's kind of a social builder as well.
57:09Hayden:But supposedly, like it says like the story takes place over seven days, so you can't do all the side quests in one playthrough. You've you've got to pick and choose where you want to go.
57:18The way that they have done the timing mechanic in this game is really interesting. Like if you leave your controller down and a dude's just staring at a building for seven days, the time won't go forward. Instead, like if you complete an objective, a hard-coded objective, it'll it'll like jump the clock forward X amount of hours. So, you know, if you go around and just you know merc you know mobs or whatever for a couple of hours and there's no objective to it, you're fine. But if you come you know finish the starting, yeah.
57:50Hayden:So I mean basically you can upgrade your guy if you just uh with XP, but you can't do um yeah.
57:56I don't know if there's a skill tree involved or what, but I know there's not equipment, okay, which is kind of annoying.
58:01Hayden:Um I knew it has something to do. I don't I just don't know how it works, but like you can't upgrade your guy. Hey, I don't like to loot.
58:06I do like to loop. And then there's uh Onimusha Way of the Sword. Uh this is from Capcom, and one of Capcom's this is Onimusha, I think, four. I think it was. And um this uh this was a huge series in the PlayStation 1 era. Um and to see it come back. And Capcom has not been good. No, that this year they've been killing it. Like the all the Resident Evil games and stuff that they've been putting out have been pretty solid. They put out a game, um I can't remember, where this dude like has a little girl and like they developed a new um combat mechanic where she hacks the bad guys while you attack them, and it's a really instant, like crazy, it's not even a QTE, it's more like a mini game while you're fighting at the same
58:52time. It's like solving a puzzle while fighting for your life. And uh it's the last thing we need. Well, people love it. Uh I've thought about getting it, but I don't know. I was hoping it would come to Game Pass.
59:02Tom:See, that was like a thing, right? The three of us are playing, and Hayden's objective was to hack the robots. Maybe me and Mitch fighting for our lives while Hayden's at his house with like a whiteboard, a lab coat on.
59:15I'm hacking into their database. But Onimusha is definitely kind of adapting closer to the Souls-like genre, a lot of parrying and stuff, but the animations and stuff look crazy. It's a beautiful game. If anything, if you don't buy it, you should totally watch some playthroughs and stuff. It it it seems pretty cool. Um, and then you got Valheim. Uh just is going to hit its 1.0 watch. Okay. I think we tried it.
59:38Hayden:Yeah, it's been out for a while. We just I just never could get into it.
59:41Well, it was pretty early when we tried it, and the people who have stuck through it uh swear by it. And I don't know, maybe if it's on Game Pass, I don't know. Valheim. Yeah, it's a survival fantasy world builder, like giants and stuff like that.
59:57Hayden:So we played this? I think me and Mitch did it. I don't know if it's I played, it was like a very early thing, but you're having to build like your Viking something.
1:00:07We did like one day, and we were like, meh.
1:00:09Hayden:Yeah. But kind of like the mound.
1:00:12Then uh yeah. Yeah. I mean, I play, I just haven't had time. Um then you have Hot Wheels, Infinite Rush, September 10th. Go fast! And then uh RuneScape Dragon Wilds, uh September 15th.
1:00:29Tom:Runescape's still doing stuff?
1:00:30Yeah, they're they're blowing up, they're putting out a couple of games. Uh this is their most recent one. Uh, and then you all of course have Marvel's Wolverine. I got pre-ordered. Got pre-ordered.
1:00:41Hayden:No, the the Spider-Man, it's made by the same people that made the Spider-Man games, and they're they're really good stories, and the action's really fun. The combat mechanics are a lot of fun. So I have high hopes for Wolverine, even though it's not fully open world like Spider-Man is.
1:00:54Yeah, Fire Emblem Fortunes Weave, which is um if it's like a traditional Fire Emblem game, it's kind of like chess, uh, but an RPG. Um, some characters can do different stuff depending on what they are and where they're placed in relation to other units. So it's kind of like, you know, battle management system, which is uh and it's slow. I like that. You know, like uh RTS's where you just think it's time with the game. I do. I don't I don't want to think like on the fly when it comes to strategy. Um yeah, I'm gonna skip that game because nobody knows what it is. Dune Awakening, September 22nd. I thought this game was coming out like forever ago.
1:01:29Tom:All you did was skip Call of Duty.
1:01:31I didn't. That's October. I was like, I'm not talking about that. Uh Dune Awakening is it's gonna be a huge game, I think. Uh Open World Dune game. I think it's multiplayer or map massive multiplayer. I don't know.
1:01:44Hayden:I haven't seen that one.
1:01:45Uh Control Resonant comes out later this month.
1:01:48Hayden:I've heard that's supposed to be really good, but I don't really know anything about it.
1:01:50So Control was a great game. I really enjoyed that game. It's single player, um, and this is like the sequel to it. Uh they had a um extraction shooter control game. I thought it looked interesting, but I never was bothered to download it. Silent Hill Townfall. Um Silent Hill is really cranking out some some winners, and it seems like they're kind of having a resurgence. We'll see what happens. Uh I don't know, some sports game is coming out. And then Minecraft Dungeons 2. Sports ball. Sports ball. Sports ball the game.
1:02:20Tom:Was it bad in like 2K27? I don't know.
1:02:23It's FC, whatever FC is.
1:02:26Hayden:Field talking? No. Uh probably soccer or something.
1:02:29Tom:Uh FIFA? No. I don't know.
1:02:32But Minecraft. Minecraft Dungeons 2. My kids are obsessed with. I've actually started playing Diablo 3 with my kids because we can all be on the same screen with it. And they love it. They're like, this is just like Minecraft Dungeons. And I was like, actually, Minecraft Dungeons is just like this. Yeah. So I'll have you now. They'll be excited about that.
1:02:51Hayden:You also have the Witcher 3, which is getting remastered.
1:02:54It comes out later this year. No, I don't think it comes out.
1:02:56Hayden:It's not in September. I thought somebody was saying at the end of September.
1:02:58Tom:Did Witcher 4 come out? Because I haven't announced that.
1:03:01No, so they're doing this. They they said they were done after Blood and Wine with Witcher 3. And then that because of uh Witcher 4, they're shifting narrative. It sounds like this DLC is to help transition that narrative. But they're also doing it's free DLC. Well, I think you actually do have to pay for the DLC. unknown: I don't know. But they're doing a complete graphics overhaul on the Witcher 3 game for modern consoles and uh PCs, and uh they're including all the gameplay, you know, uh new stuff that's added into the DLC, into the main game as well.
1:03:34Hayden:And I can't remember if it was this or if it was they're talking about for Witcher 4, he's gonna have like the chain that he can spin and fight like almost like a chain uh with a knife on the end or something like that.
1:03:43That's Doom.
1:03:45Hayden:I thought it was Witcher.
1:03:46I don't know, but uh like you're talking about DLCs, that's that's Doom uh you know the Dark Ages.
1:03:52Hayden:No, no, no, no, the the Witcher, he he had some kind of like ch almost like a silver chain wrapped around his hit hand, and he would throw like a little spike out as he was fighting.
1:04:00Oh, I don't know. I hadn't seen that one.
1:04:02Hayden:But for for whatever I was watching, they were saying like this is something that he's had in the books for ages and they just never included it in the game. And I was like, I don't know.
1:04:07I read the books, I don't remember it.
1:04:09Hayden:I don't know.
1:04:10Alright. So that's all the video games that you need to worry about for now.
1:04:15Tom:For this month.
1:04:16I think that's a good place to stop this episode.
1:04:20Hayden:How about you guys?
1:04:21Tom:Or is it well?
1:04:24Hayden:I mean, I I think with Halloween coming up, by the time these episodes come out, we should start focusing on some some something scary. And then we also have we've done Hocus Pocus. I know, but we uh we also need to talk about Call of Duty in one of our next episodes because it'll be coming out in October, and there's a whole new thing going on.
1:04:41There's two obscure horror movies.
1:04:43Hayden:I'm good with it.
1:04:44Like look, I got a horror movie that I don't think you guys have seen. I would like to talk about it, it's a terrible horror movie, but I love it. What is it? It's called Virus.
1:04:53Hayden:That's the one with uh Jamie Lee Curtis? Yes. Yeah, I've seen it? Yeah, it's been a long time, but I know what it is.
1:04:59All right.
1:04:59Hayden:What about I mean we can watch it? I've seen it like back in the 90s.
1:05:03What about Leviathan? Have you seen that one?
1:05:05Hayden:Sounds familiar. That's the one where like you see the tentacles on the cover coming up around the corner.
1:05:11Oh uh I think you're thinking of the sphere, which is another great movie. Um, but Leviathan's got the dude uh Daniel Stern in it. Okay. Marv. Yeah.
1:05:20Hayden:I was thinking Sam Neal, but then that's Event Horizon.
1:05:23Oh, Vent Horizon, uh, but everybody's seen that one. Yeah, so yeah. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, yeah, we can come up with something.
1:05:29Hayden:If you got some obscure ones, like I mean, as long as they're not like, you know, Velocipastor 2.
1:05:33That's what you guys are all watching.
1:05:35Hayden:We we but yeah, I'm Are we French? I think some of those would be uh pretty interesting to see because like not everybody's heard of them, and they're not bad, they're just different.
1:05:44Yeah, yeah. I think it'd be fun. All right, well, bye.
1:05:50Tom:Get out of my house.
