0:00We made you!
0:04Hayden:The best movie ever made. Yeah!
0:10The fact that it has Emilio Estevez in it though. And this is like After Breakfast Club.
0:14Hayden:Yeah. Yeah. I think a lot of people had uh all sorts of hopes and aspirations that cocaine riddled Stephen King.
0:25Juan Carlo or Giancarlo? How do you say his name? Giancarlo Esposito.
0:29Hayden:Hello, welcome to Entertain This, a podcast about movies, TV shows, and video games. And my name is Hayden with me at Mitch. Hi. And Tom. Hello. And unless our podcast comes alive and our recording equipment doesn't strangle us by the end of this episode, you will be uh completing a whole bunch of the whole discussion about maximum overdrive. No, it's maximum overdrive. Yeah, you gotta have that.
0:53This is Big Riggs the movie. I said that last night watching it to my wife as she just stared at me and I was like, Big Riggs. I was like, Big Evan Riggs! And she just like she has no idea what you're talking about.
1:06Hayden:This is a 1986 cult classic movie written and directed by Stephen King and a lot of cocaine.
1:13Allegedly.
1:14Hayden:Oh, he comes out and admits it.
1:16Well, no, supposedly uh others might have helped him on it. I say those pupils are dilated in that cameo.
1:23Hayden:So uh when this movie came out, Stephen King vehemently defended it, saying that it is it's a great movie, there's no cause for concern, blah blah blah. Everybody should go watch it.
1:36He had a three-picture deal.
1:37Hayden:And then he said, Okay, it is trash, I'm sorry. And he apologized you know a lot. A lot of injuries happen on this film. Uh because of Stephen King, things like that. And he's like in today, he'll say, like, that's the worst movie ever made, don't watch it, and I'm sorry that I ever made it.
1:57So well, there's a lot of rumors that George Romero was actually part of the production and just unofficially, because they said he's he was on set a lot, and Stephen King would go to him for advice on things a lot. Yeah. So he looks almost like he unofficially was the director. And also the very bizarre shooting stance of Law Rockets and no regard to backblast or direction it's pointing. It made me mad. I'm like, the safety.
2:21Hayden:So the thing that weirded me out about that rocket launcher is that they could reload it? Yeah, he loads it, he reloads it, which is it's a it's a I think it was an AT4, right? Yeah. So it's like a disposable rocket launcher, but he loads his like weird nerf missile into it.
2:37That you could see the missile, and I'm like, I've watched a lot of action movies.
2:40Hayden:It's not it's like like laying on the bottom of the tube, yeah, right? It's not like in the rocket launcher, you know? And then since I've seen that, I've seen a lot of like modern stuff, like I've been watching narcos and stuff. They have the same thing, they just like have like a rocket like rolling in the middle of the thing, like laying on the tube. And I'm like, just take it out.
3:01I mean, especially the guy, he's just gonna be like, light it. Yeah.
3:05Hayden:Muzzle load that rocket. It's damp.
3:08Take it in there.
3:09Hayden:It's damp. It's damp. But, anyways, so 1986. Uh, weird time for sci-fi. Go to entertain this.app. Social media, Mitch. Yeah. Good job, Mitch. Social Entertain This dot app. Weird time for sci-fi. Uh Star Wars, you know, uh if you call it sci-fi, it's well, Star Wars had finished three years prior. Right. Uh the third one did?
3:30Return of the Jedi came out in 83.
3:32Hayden:But it they're still like the high of Star Wars, right?
3:35Yeah, you still got the cred I mean, what, next generation? Well, next generation didn't come out until the next year. When an alien were they still doing Aliens came out in 1986.
3:43Hayden:So, like a lot of good sci-fi is happening around this time. And then you have Terminator, it already happened. Like it's it's out there. Yeah, T2 was 90s. Yeah.
3:53I don't know if uh Robocop, I think was 1987. One of them, one of them was in the 80s. I can't remember which one.
3:58Hayden:Well, like where this came out and the the the ether of sci-fi, this was just like it like it just fell into the dumpster.
4:07I I liked it. I mean, yeah. I didn't it it's it this is the classic example. If it's so bad, it's good. Oh it's a good bad movie, it's a great bad movie. Like it like it's still enjoyable to kind of watch because you're just like kind of like, what are they doing?
4:21Hayden:Once every like 10 years.
4:23This movie and Return of the Living Dead are the only are like the first horror movies that I remember watching as a kid. Would you call this a horror movie? Well, I mean they're killed. That's a choke on it one. That doesn't uh people die.
4:33Tom:I'm in charge of this funny five package die.
4:36Hayden:I remember he's going merit choke on it. Return of the Living Dead is one of my favorite.
4:43But for like a seven and eight-year-old, that that's horror.
4:45Hayden:But like, this is not horror. Like saying they're killing them. No, they die in a Titanic. Is that the horror movie? The boat killed. If you were on that boat, yeah. Yes. Yeah.
4:56No, it's yeah, but they were like actively trying to go out and murder people.
4:59Hayden:It's it's barely a sci-fi movie. Okay.
5:02I just don't get how Walkmans were killing people.
5:05Hayden:Yeah. So like there was a lot of blood or the hairdryer. So like they introduced a lot of like interesting ideas of where they could go with it, where like Giancarlo Esposito gets like brainwashed by the machine. Yeah. Like the arcade. And then killed. And I'm like, oh, so like screens are gonna like brainwash people and to make them into zombies or something like that. You know, I remember thinking that the first time I saw this movie.
5:29They actually did that in a DC comic.
5:31Hayden:But no, it's not like that at all. Trucks run people over. Let's keep it simple.
5:36But they electrocute him. But it's like if you stay in the woods, you're safe. Yeah, I mean, trucks can't drive through trees.
5:43Hayden:They never got that far. Well, it was too much. Stop stop thinking.
5:46Granted, there's more to it. I why is it like the ultimate killing machine was 18 wheelers?
5:51Hayden:Yeah, and then when appliances were killing.
5:53Have you ever driven on the highway? True.
5:56Hayden:When appliances were killing people, they just kind of stopped halfway through the movie and went only to trucks.
6:01Well, that and if this machine gun on top of that one thing could shoot. He has a whole arsenal in the basement that doesn't come to life. Yeah. That's so funny. Yeah, the premise of that. I'm like, there's there's no like a there's no like firing component like hooked up to like an M60.
6:16Hayden:We were very literal, like, we have to have an explanation. Okay, this is the 80s where just do your Go with it.
6:24Do your drugs, suspend your disbelief, do your blow and enjoy yourself.
6:29Hayden:So, like, like I I don't know. The Lawnmower came to life, but like the rocket launcher couldn't just blow up.
6:35The kid was like in it to win it. Oh yeah. He's like the hero and really grabs the baseball. Yeah, he puts the catcher's mask on, and I'm like, this kid's smart. unknown: Yeah. And also, like, yeah, I wasn't expecting to show like kids getting just murked like that, like to death. I'm like, ah, it's like you know, it's an 80s. Yeah, it's like, oh I got him. He's flat now.
7:01Hayden:Yeah. And and then obviously, like the basic mechanics of how these machines work, it doesn't matter because like no soda machine projects cokes like 110 miles an hour. Drops it from a case inside or from like a roof.
7:16It should be able to go phew.
7:17Hayden:Yeah.
7:18Well, I wrote it wrote it down. They're like, this is basically just like a lazy version of Terminator.
7:22Hayden:Yeah. Yeah.
7:23Machines come to life to kill judgment day in a lazy universe.
7:27Hayden:Also, like oh they kind of shoots its like the narrative shoots itself in the foot because the opening scroll they talk about how for like the next nine days, yeah, and you're like, okay, just hold out for nine days. I mean, they don't know that.
7:40They do because they the one girl figures it out.
7:43Hayden:The comet and all that stuff.
7:45Yeah, Rhea-M comet tail. And then aliens.
7:48Hayden:Was it what?
7:50Oh, yeah, at the end they talk about aliens. Yeah. This was in the the ending scroll. Remember when uh what's his name? Uh Emilio is talking about how this could just be like a uh a ploy to to weaken our defenses before the real threat arrives. And then they in the end they talk about there's like the words that come up, and it talked about the alien mothership showed up. Oh, I don't remember.
8:08Hayden:That was like hiding like the trail. I think as soon as like it faded to black when the movie was over, I thought you're like, ah.
8:16I never realized that that ending part until I stayed. I can just sit there and watch the rest of it.
8:19Hayden:But well, are we doing our typical where we just read through how how big is the plot for this? One bad. Alright, go ahead, Tom.
8:30Alright. On June 19th, 1987, as the Earth crosses the tale of a rogue comet, Rhea-M, previously inanimate machines spring to life, and ATM insults a customer. Which was Stephen King. Which is hilarious. Because like you see, like not even the machine doing it, like the side scroll crap. Yeah. There's like, you know, the weather and whatever, it just says sort of saying F you just continuously. It's like that's funny. And he's just like, Darn Dolores, honey. The ATM just called me an ale. I mean, that was pretty that was that was kind of funny. And a bascule bridge, if you know what a bascule bridge, that's you know, the bridges that split apart so boats raises up can go through.
9:14Hayden:Yeah, those guys were stupid too.
9:16They just like hosts like, oh no, things doing the things a major incident uh rises during heavy traffic, uh, causing all vehicles upon the bridge to fall into the river or collide. Chaos sets in as machines begin hunting down and ruthlessly killing humans worldwide. And we'll we'll we'll talk about the opening, then we'll get to the the Dixie boy in Bubba. Bubba. Well, I'd say starting off, the movie has a great soundtrack. Yeah, the soundtrack is it's all ACDC. Yeah, I have the album. They actually uh made the song Who Made Who for the for the movie. I I have I have that album, it's great. So you know, like as soon as I turn it on, it's like bam, maximum overdrive. Then A C D C is like, you know what?
9:59The music was great. I don't even care. The music slaps. I was like, who doesn't want to who doesn't want to watch a movie that has you know big freaking rigs and good old just 80s ACDC just blasting at you? Yeah. It's a lot of fun, a lot of fun, a lot of fun. But the uh the bridge scene, stupid all those people die because they're either dumb or slow. Yeah, the the dude who's like straddling the opening of the bridge, he's just like uh he's like crap, and he's like trying to go, he's like, come on, it's like nah well, like even when it starts to get high, like you see some people get launched out of a cannon, it looks like, into the windshield. It's like all of them hit windshields, none of
10:41them went face first into the grill of a single vehicle, they all went right through a window into that vehicle. Well, the whole time it's like the bridge doesn't just like pop up, it's like it gradually rises. It's like just get up and walk off the bridge.
10:54Hayden:Yeah, it was dumb. How come none of the boats were taken over?
10:59Because they were sailboats.
11:00Hayden:Oh.
11:02Like this movie on like on a bigger budget scale. Could you imagine like an aircraft carrier? Oh, yeah. Or like a battle ship.
11:09Hayden:Actual weapons. I bet you in our lifetime they'll do a a maximum overdrive like remake.
11:15The the 2026 edition. They'll do something crazy like there'd be a black mirror episode. It probably already is. So it probably already is.
11:24Hayden:Yeah, there is actually. There's one where like the AI is in all the devices, and it's well, there's a movie about it too. It's like the house or something like that. Oh, okay. Yeah.
11:33So what the Disney one?
11:35Hayden:Uh, yeah, there is a Disney one. Yeah, that was a good one. There's a there's a remake of the city.
11:39What uh the the wife from uh Married with Children, yeah. Yeah, I saw that. I saw I remember that there was ads for that. That was Smart House. Smart House! That was a good movie. Right, yeah. We should we should talk about that movie next time. If you could find it. I don't even know if Disney Plus has it. Yeah, we we could look like remind us, remind us listeners. We'll come back. They won't. At the the Dixie Boy with Bubba outside of Wilmington, North Carolina. Side note, Pat Hingle liked being there so much he moved to Wilmington, North Carolina. My uh my grandparents, my my granddad, he was from Wilmington, North Carolina. Did you recognize Pat Hingle? I did not. You didn't recognize him as Commissioner Gordon?
12:20Yeah, from Commissioner. From the Batman movies? I thought you meant like from when I'd visited up there. So I was like, no, no, yeah, from the Batman. He was Commissioner Gordon, yeah. I was gonna ask y'all that and see, I didn't know if y'all were recognized or not. No, I know I know I was like Pat Hingle. I was like, that's Commissioner Gordon. I was like, I've seen you in the movies. And then one of the uh truck stop people there, remember uh I can't remember his name in the Patriot, but he's the one that killed himself. John Billings. Yes, he was there with a funny laugh. He was in there. Yeah, he Brad. Yeah, he gets taken out. Is he the one with his eyes or that was a different guy? No, that's a different guy.
12:49Okay, he gets it at the he's the last guy to die. Oh, oh yeah, yeah. When he finds the he has a gun, sits it down, and gets ran over. Yeah, explodes. We'll get to that. At the Dixie Boy truck stop outside of Wilmington, North Carolina with Bubba. Employee Duncan Keller is blinded after a gas pump sprays diesel in his eyes. And has the terror music strike when he when it happens?
13:12Hayden:It's a very dark diesel.
13:14It was like I'm like, I don't think that's what diesel looks like. Uh blinded after sprays in his eyes after an electric knife injures waitress Wanda June and arcade machines in the back room electrocute a customer.
13:28Tom:Giancarlo Esposito.
13:29Giancarlo Esposito.
13:30Tom:And he's not injured, he's dead. Dead, dead.
13:33Well, I like how when they the machines start flashing and all stuff, he goes, Yo mama. Yeah. He's talking back to the machine. Yo, mama. As he's like stealing everything. Yeah.
13:42Hayden:I wouldn't blame him. When I watched this recently, I was like, is that and then I I pulled up Giancarlo Esposito's uh IMDB. I did the same thing. The first thing is like maximum overdrive, like the arcade guy. And I was like, oh wow.
13:56Yeah, when I saw him. When I saw him in the arcade, I was like, is that I had to go look up why you did IMDb. I was like, hey, it's Giancarlo Esposito. Also in the usual suspects. Uh electric knife injuries, uh, arcade machines. Paroled ex-convict, Bill Robinson, begins to suspect foul play. Meanwhile, at a Little League game, a vending machine kills the coach by firing canned soda at him. And multiple children. Yeah. A driverless road roller flattens a fleeing child while Duncan's son Deke escapes on his bike.
14:32Hayden:And why are some cars not taken over? I know. They never explain that. They never explained.
14:36Because like the wedding cards regular sedan, uh, that woman. Yeah. Oh, that's Lisa Simpson. Yeah, that's like her whole character in every movie. We'll get to it though. We'll talk about the diesel sprays in the guy's face. Yeah. Because the dude that shows up the uh in like the scary like the black guy. Yeah. Yeah. He's uh he's in a bunch of stuff. He's in a lot of Tarantino movies, man. He's in a lot of Tarantino. I've seen him in a lot of as soon as he popped it. I was like, that guy. Yeah. I'm like, I've seen him in a bunch of films. I'm like, he's always a very good actor. Uh I think he's the one that shows up with the green goblin truck. Yeah. Yeah, which is which was cool. Yeah. I mean, I'm not a 18-wheelers kind of guy.
15:15I read where somebody But that is a cool, especially when the eyes glow. Yeah. That that's in ACDC playing. It's just it's just cool. I I read where somebody had either they had put that in storage, then somebody bought the storage container. Well, they bought the storage container, found it in there, and some guy kept it for years before they actually refurbished it, and now they take it to like conventions or whatever.
15:35Hayden:So if did you guys read like the production nightmare behind it thing? No. Because the goblin head covers the radiator. Oh, so it it like it would start for like five seconds and then shut off, and it just billows smoke everywhere.
15:49Well, I read a lot of the trucks did that. Yeah, there's a lot, there's a couple of scenes where they're like circling around where you can see like it's very hazy.
15:57Hayden:Yeah. So the the the dude that we were talking about, he's been in like Red Dragon, the Hannibal.
16:04Yeah, he's in the a lot of the Hannibal movies. He was in he's in a lot of like horror style movies. Yeah.
16:09Hayden:Albino Alligator.
16:11That that's how I recognize him.
16:12Hayden:Yeah, Silence of the Lamb.
16:13I want to say he's in one of the Rob Zombie Halloween movies, too, and he like fights Michael Myers for a moment before he gets killed.
16:21Hayden:He was in Banshee, that's where I know him from. So it's a great show.
16:25That's the show with Homelander, right?
16:27Hayden:Yes.
16:31Yeah, that's where he was in the wire.
16:33Hayden:You watch The Wire?
16:35I've seen the reels.
16:37Hayden:I watched the show.
16:38He's like, I've seen enough on the YouTube.
16:40Hayden:That's a great show.
16:41And what's his face? You know, so-and-so's coming, whatever his name is.
16:44Hayden:Yeah. Omar.
16:46Omar. We're not talking about the wire, we're talking about maximum overdrive. I I want to say whatever uh Bill or Hero, whatever they want to call him, you know, Emilio Estevez, he was working that grill. He was working that flat top. He sure was. Because those eggs looked great. And then, you know, Pat Hinkle, Bubba, I need to talk to you back here with his cigar, because he doesn't say cigar. And he's like, I got eggs on. And he's just like, wanna cover for you. She could not cover. No. When they cut to her, I was like, what are you making? She's like prodding and prodding the eggs with the spatula. Destroying the spatula. Like, I'm like, Do you have like corned beef hash just thrown on this griddle top?
17:29Like, what are you doing, woman? And it's like, hang on, I almost wanted to jump through the screen and be like, you go sit down. I will handle this for you. Because uh, Mr. Hendershot, bubba, he's a jerk. Yes, he's a douche. Because obviously, our hero Bill Robinson is on the parole.
17:48Hayden:The parole.
17:50The parole. And he's like, you know, he's like, you only gonna clock him for eight hours, but you work at nine hours.
17:57Hayden:I mean, if you're gonna take advantage of him, that's not that bad.
18:00Just say, like, uh I'm not gonna pay you.
18:01Hayden:Yeah, what are you gonna do about it?
18:03What are you gonna do? Because all I gotta do is call you a parole boy and say you've been bad. Like the whole time he's like, You must be a college boy.
18:14Hayden:They ever tell you what he did to get arrested.
18:17Yeah, he like uh yeah, because he like uh says it when they're in like the gun room about him like stealing money because he like owed somebody. And like he's like, they caught him with a bag full of money and his thumb up his butt. Yeah. Whatever that means. And then the electric knife comes to life. Yeah, just like jumps up, jumps up, like saws are just like, ah, and it lays on the floor and starts cutting her foot. Yeah, and still turning it off, he just hammers it to death. Hey, you dead, you dead.
18:48Hayden:Well, if it would have shown him unplugging it and it was still going to town on her foot, then that would have made sense. But he just takes a hammer and starts smashing it.
18:57He didn't ask any questions, he was like, electric knife, die.
19:00Hayden:Aliens. Nothing makes sense. Yeah, like how all these machinery weirdnesses happen.
19:07And then we cut to the the Little League game. Yeah. That that dude got messed up. The the coach? Yeah, with the show like the can sized, like depressed like ambition on his forehead. I was like, God. He's like, I'll get you guys sodas. And he puts in like what 50 cents? Yeah. And he just started pressing. I'm like, how many cans of soda would the 50 to 50 cents get you in 1986? At least two.
19:29Hayden:Yeah.
19:29Oh my but there was like eight kids back there.
19:31Hayden:Well, I think the uh the machine went off.
19:34And they don't even show what happened to the other team. They all took off running.
19:37Hayden:They died, they got steamrolled.
19:39Yeah, the one that got steamrolled, it was like a tube of toothpaste. Yeah, oh yeah. Because like those kids start getting laid out by that coke thing, and like kids just like take off running, and then Deke, like the other guy's son, he's like, Oh, catcher's mask. It's like haha. And he like the coach, he's like, Coach, come on, he's like, No, you dead, damn it. Like, he came to terms with reality a lot faster than the adults. He was like, Oh no, it's the end of the world.
20:06Hayden:Because the adults were like, We made you.
20:09Well, you know, like when he after he starts running away and he's like biking down the street, why would the spigots for the uh the hoses? I think that was like a signal like a human is coming, but they're not mechanical, they're just it's just knob. Don't don't try and make sense. But there's no machine. Well, then but then you also have the dog that was killed by the RC card like stuck in its mouth. You hear like the sirens, and I was like, is like a demon fire truck about to come around the corner? And it's just like, oh it's just a poor dog. They go later on, that's the ice cream truck. Yeah, yeah, that like only shows up like what twice? Yeah. And he blows it up at the end. Yeah. And he's like, I don't need this anymore.
20:49Like his revenge quest was over. It was just him versus the the Mr. Software truck.
20:55Tom:Something from his childhood, gave me diabetes. Take you out.
20:59Now you're done. Like that kid was a bigger, like, BA than most of the people in this movie. Yeah. Then we get newlyweds, Connie and Curtis, whose card doesn't rebel. No, and she was so annoyed. My wife was like, I hope they kill her. Like, I'm tired of listening to her.
21:19Hayden:I don't think you could fit a pencil in between her eyes.
21:22They're very it was like, no, she had uh eyes like the headlights on a Jeep.
21:26Hayden:Yeah, very, very close together.
21:28What? Yeah, Jeep headlights are very close together. Okay. Like Jeep Wranglers. Oh yeah, that's her nickname uh uh according to the notes was AC. Okay. Almost Cyclops. Oh, so corny.
21:45Hayden:And yet you're geffine.
21:46Oh yes.
21:48Hayden:But like when you hear her voice, yeah, yeah, you just know. Like nails on a chocolate. It's Lisa. Remember uh uh what's that movie with the dinosaurs? And they're back.
22:02Oh yeah. We're back. We're back. We're back.
22:04Hayden:Yeah, yeah, yeah. She was like one of the characters in that too. Yeah. I can't unhear that voice.
22:11It's just degrading. Degrading. Yeah. It's like when you drag your nails across like a roll of paper towel.
22:17Hayden:Also, her name is uh Yeardly Smith. That's an interesting name.
22:21Okay.
22:22Hayden:Sounds like a product of inbreeding, but that's just Or the Hippie Movement.
22:29They discover a corpse at a roadside gas station, but escape in their car when a tow truck attempts to kill Curtis. Meanwhile, humans and pets are murdered by lawnmowers, chainsaws, electric hairdryers, pocket radios, RC cars, and an ice cream truck.
22:45Hayden:Let's talk about that lawnmower. So it was remote controlled for the movie. Uh-huh. And everybody in the set begs Stephen King to take the blade off. To take the blade off. And he said, no, it needs to have the realism of the blade. And so, like, I guess like the signal lapsed to the lawnmower for the remote control and it hit like a block of wood.
23:06Because it had like the camera like on a block of wood to get the shot. Yeah. And when it went over, it hit the wood and shot a splinter like into like their photographer's eye.
23:14Tom:Yeah.
23:15So he's he lost his eye. He ended up suing him after the movie. He came back to work on it. It did. And he's like, I thought like my career was like over because it's like, who wants a photographer, a guy with your photo one-eyed photographer? Without depth perception.
23:28Hayden:He sued for 1.4 million, but they settled. I don't know what they actually got.
23:32So they're like, look, the movie didn't make that much. So yeah.
23:36Hayden:I'm sure uh Stephen King probably feels bad about that.
23:40Yeah. Did he remember? I mean, he was he was coked out. Coke-fueled rage. It wasn't even a co they wouldn't even let him on the set when he got there. When he got to the studio. The eyeball guy? No, uh Stephen King.
23:53Hayden:Why?
23:53Because he rode there on a motorcycle from Maine. Really? He's like, I wanted to get the sense of fear like people would have on our highway with these 18 wheelers. So he drove from Maine on a motorcycle. Okay. Yeah, then like they were just like, okay, like who are you? And he's like, I'm Stephen King, I'm directing this movie. And they're like, he was like the shovel and like out of it. Like he was like drunk, like most of the time. Somebody get this vagabond out of here. Stephen King. And the only reason they let him in because they they were they believed him when they saw like the plate said Maine. And they were like, Are you Stephen King? Are you sure? Are you are you sure you who you say you are?
24:26Sir.
24:27Hayden:Stephen King uh got hit by a car at one point in his life. Let me see if I can remember.
24:33It was on his way to this movie. He was on his way to this movie. At the Dixie Boy, a garage.
24:39Hayden:1999.
24:40Sorry. A gor a garbage truck that kills Duncan, which was so stupid. When he departs to search for Deke, and a truck transporting a giant or sporting a giant fiberglass green goblin mask on its grill slams Bible salesman Camp Lohman into a ditch. Later, big rig! Trucks encircle the truck stop.
25:01Hayden:Yeah. And then they talk to him through Morse code.
25:05You know, like an 18-wheeler can only turn certain circumferences. So you could like stand at a certain point and just stand there, and the truck would just circle and never be able to hit you. Because the dude's trying to leave, and it's like you can't see. And he's like, I can see, and he like opens his eyes, like the whites of his eyes are just like pure red. Yeah. And he's just like, he's walking and he like drops his keys. It's like you don't hear the 18-wheeler in front of you.
25:31Tom:Well, he did eventually.
25:34For a moment. And then you get the Bible salesman guy because he's got the gr the the broad of the film like in his car. And he's just like, ah, what do you think about the Bible salesman feeling up a hitchhiker?
25:45Hayden:Yeah, just sexually assaulting this woman. It was funny back then.
25:49Back then it was just considered cheeky behavior. And the whole time she's just like, anyway. Anyway. And he's like, if you do it again, you're not gonna get the handbag. If you're gonna wipe your butt with a hook. And he's like, Alright. Alright. And while this is happening, he's like still trying to sell Bibles to like those two people. Yeah. Like at the truck stop, and then like the truck like rams his car. And he just starts swearing profusely. And he like tells like the lady, like, yeah, I hear you, B-word, like to like the woman like in his way. Yeah. And like runs out there with like with his suitcase, and then he gets decleated by the Happy Toys truck. Just backs into it. They just show bloody loafers.
26:32Yeah. And he just goes, We into the swamp. Don't you go. I will say I think the best line, it hasn't come up yet, but it's before they all get gunned down, or people get gunned down by the M60. When that one trucker just busts into the room. He's like, What the is going on in here?
26:53Hayden:And then that's the stupidest thing.
26:57And nobody had the comments just to duck. Yeah. A lot of there was a lot of people who died late, and it's just like, you didn't get down. You watch these people die for like five minutes. Like, my god, that guy's shooting chest. It's like he's gonna jump over the chest high wolf. He's suicidal.
27:12Hayden:So whatever magical sci-fi thing also can rejuvenate bullets. Yeah. Because like that thing didn't that box held what 50 rounds? Yeah, but it didn't even have a belt feeding into the weapon. It was just There was no belt. Yeah, it was just the gun itself. You know.
27:29Those people didn't die, they just thought they were shot. I made them think their chest got hit by 556.
27:36Hayden:It was so stupid.
27:38I made I made the blood vessels.
27:40Hayden:It's like on a pipe in the back of the the It's just like a platform with a steering wheel. I mean, made no sense.
27:46And it's like, where did that thing come from? Like what like what military view like what was that?
27:50Hayden:And if that came from an army base or a military base, why send whatever that was? Why not send like a tank or something?
27:58Yeah, why not send uh tank? Connie and Curtis outmaneuver a semi-truck, causing it to crash off the side of the road and explode. They arrive at the fortified truck stop where it is safer than out in the open, which was stupid because like they ditched the truck and she's like yelling, she's like, I know what you did, you drive, and he he jukes out the truck, uh-huh. Which granted, when he watched it, it was like it wasn't that hard. I'm like, I and I'm like, the truck was gaining on him, and I'm like, dude, you like what are we doing? Yeah, I'm like, is there is are you pressing the pedal? Are you trying to get away?
28:36Hayden:He's trying.
28:37Curtis was just trying to have like his he-man moment, yeah. He's trying to impress the lady, and it's like you're you're married, unfortunately. To AC. To that woman, yeah, to almost Cyclops. And then he gets there, and he's like, You're like, you see the gap? He goes, We can make it. And in my head, I'm like, he heard yeah, and he's just like, Yeah, I can do it. Well, I I'm watching and like as the things are going around, I'm going, What gap? Like, yeah, there's a few feet in between each truck. But I'm like, if you like, even with the timing, like the last truck just has to like a see you, and then just go and swerve it. It's like uh-you're done, or it's like, and brakes, and you've crashed into the trailer and you died and got
29:18decapitated. But that didn't happen to Connie and Curtis. Unfortunately, they made it. Of course. As they try to pass between the trucks, their car is hit and overturned. And even then, she's like losing it. And she's like, I'm stuck, Curtis! And I was like, Leave her. Just leave her, leave her there. Even my wife's like, Leave her. I'm tired of listening to that woman. Bill and hitchhiker Brett Graham rush to help them before the trucks attack. The owner, Bubba Hendishot, uses an M72 law rockets he had stored in a bunker hidden underneath the diner to destroy many of the trucks, he blows up.
29:57Hayden:That was the only thing he had now.
29:58He blows up three.
30:00Hayden:Yeah. He had like a whole like gun vault down there.
30:03Yeah. And with the amount of rockets he had, you could have blew up the rest of the trucks. Right. It could have been like, I only had three rockets. They would just send more. They did. Yeah. They sent a lot. Then they had to like fill them up with the gas. Yeah. And Deke later arrives at the Dixie Boy and attempts entrance via the sewers, but is obstructed with the wire mesh covering the opening. So on his way there, he's attacked by the plane that's playing Ride of the Valkyries, which I thought was hilarious. Yeah. Because when I heard and I just see a plane, I was like, that's funny. I was like, that's just that's just tasteful funny. And he like hides in the woods and he like gets back on his
30:42bike and he pedals. It's very funny.
30:45Hayden:He had a very different Stranger Things moment, you know.
30:48Yeah, it wasn't, you know, the ET or anything like that.
30:51Hayden:It wasn't very kid friendly.
30:54It's like they're all sitting in a support group and they get to him. It's like, what happened to you? Big effing riggs! Every time ACDC comes on, he starts crying. Uh he tries into the sewers, but is obstructed by the wire mesh cover in the opening. That night the survivors hear Loman screaming, and Bill and Curtis sneak out via the sewers to help him. And Curtis's wife, Connie, is just like, you know, draw a man go. And he's like, I gotta do it. There's a man dying out there. Like Curtis was just trying to like live this. He's like, I want to be the apocalypse hero guy. And you're kind of ruining it. Pretty much, yeah. Which I get it. I get it for Curtis. He needed this. And I'm like, surely, in whatever town you came from, you
31:34could have done Connie. You could do better than almost Cyclops. I mean, was it an arranged marriage?
31:39Hayden:They were in Virginia.
31:41So it was in North Carolina.
31:42Hayden:Oh, okay. They were in North Carolina, so yeah. Those mountain people.
31:49Down now. If you're from North Carolina, we'd like to apologize. Deke discovers Loman, believing him dead, but he awakens and attacks Deke. Bill and Curtis rescue Deke and determine that Loman is indeed dead, and a truck then chases them back into the pipe.
32:08Hayden:Yeah, the dude just died very inconveniently.
32:10Yeah.
32:11Hayden:When they got out there to get him. He's just dead on arrival. If anybody could die, it was that guy.
32:18Yeah. Yeah, that kind of and Connie, but it doesn't matter. The next morning, a bulldozer and a platform truck drive to the truck stop. The angered Hendershot uses the rocket launcher to blow up the bulldozer, but only succeeds in blowing its roof off. But the platform truck fires its post-mounted machine gun into the building, killing many, including him and Wanda. Which is true, because the only reason he came out there was because the bulldozer crashed into the back of his car. Yeah, and like pushed it. You see the lights when he says bubba. Yeah. And he's like, ah, you some bitch.
32:55Hayden:And for some reason that car didn't come to life.
32:57Hip firing law rockets. Hip firing shoulder mounted. Shoulder fired. And the bad part is like every time they were kind of angled up and they went straight. unknown: Yeah.
33:07Hayden:He had no backblast either.
33:08There was like one time I think he was like straddling it. Like he was like holding like between his balls. And he fired. And I'm like, that would have burned. He was like, that would have hurt. And I was like, and standing behind you probably would have got singed and gotten hurt. Uh blows the uh Wanda dies because she runs out there and she's like, We made you! Yeah, it's like what are you doing? Like, we made you, you can't do this.
33:32Hayden:She's trying to reason with them. You can't reason with the machine.
33:36Well, then she goes out there, she gets herself killed, and then somehow they shoot two rockets. I never see them reload, but they shoot two rockets from the bazooka. Yeah.
33:44Hayden:They loaded it in the back. They load one in the front and one in the back. Oh, okay. It holds two. Just rechamber it.
33:51Fire the next rocket. Yes, sir. The truck then demands via sending Morse code signals through its horn that Deke deciphers that the humans pumped the truck's diesel for them in exchange for their lives.
34:05Hayden:This reminds me of why this reminds me of the SNL skit from like the early 2000s, where it's like a uh robot insurance for old people. And it was like it's a common known fact that robots will invade your house and eat all your prescription medication. It shows this like doing like a cardboard box bursting in there and like strangling some old guy in his bed while it's like eating his pills and stuff like that.
34:31I need your lupatory the whole time. They're like, you know, what they want him to refuel them. Why? Like if they run out of fuel, they can't move, evidently. So why not just wait? If they're almost out of fuel, anyways.
34:44Hayden:And if they can like strangle people with electrical cables to come to life, why can't they just make a hose or whatever?
34:51Move, yeah, move.
34:53Hayden:Why can't it go?
34:54Woo, you know, you just see the string going, oh, locks and goes, but no.
35:03Hayden:They needed a plot device, Mitch. That's what they needed.
35:06Okay. As the survivors realize that their own machines have enslaved them, Bill suggested they escape to Haven, an island off the coast on which no motorized vehicles are permitted. Convenient.
35:18Hayden:Yeah.
35:19Well, before you get all to that, I like how full of electronic can openers. They destroy the uh the gun. He's like holding a grenade and he's like, yo, Bill, I just wanted to talk to you over here. And he's like maneuvering himself along. And when I tell you to run, I want you to run as fast as you can back into the diner. Because I just want you to run for it. And he's like, What are you talking about? He's just like, I just trust me, just you just book it. As he like walks up and he like pulls the pen. Uh-huh. And I'm like, do the machines just not know? Well, they can understand you when you talk to him. He didn't recognize him speaking English? I don't know. I don't know. That's not like he like drops the grenade, like grabs the M60,
35:55just barrel, and spins it, but spins it pretty much in a 360 back to where they were shooting at everybody. It's like you just put yourself. Alright. All right, Amelia. Sure. Okay, Emilio. Let's not look too much into it.
36:08Hayden:It just it happened.
36:11Bill suggests they escape to Haven. He goes, while the crew rests, Bill theorizes that the comet is actually a broom operated by interstellar aliens. Aliens. I mean, as he's as he's getting busy on the roof with the green haze over the top.
36:28Hayden:I mean, that's the obvious assumption to make out of all of this. Yeah. So that's what he would do. Yeah. Aliens.
36:35I mean, he's a parolee. What else has he got to do? Operated by interstellar aliens that are using Earth's machines to destroy humanity so the aliens can repopulate the Earth the next day. During the fueling operation, Bill sneaks a grenade onto the platform truck, destroying it, then leaves the party out of the diner via a sewer hatched to the main road just as the trucks and bulldozer demolish the entire building.
36:57Hayden:Well, it was mad now. They're like, alright.
37:00We blew up the machine gun truck.
37:01Hayden:I have to get vengeance. We had negotiating peaceful negotiations for delicious fuel. And then you try to escape and blow us up.
37:09We offer you your life in exchange for a few measly gallons of diesel. Well, and I like how after they run, they stop at like a burger place, and the burger machine's going, Human's here, humans here, humans here, humans here, and he's like, and the kid just like he's like he's like, I got this. Yeah. As he like shoots up like the board, it's like, and dad? And he's and he just hands the gun away. He's like, I don't need this anymore. He's like, mission accomplished. The kid's a war hero now. Kyle Reese. He's like, Wolverines. That kid was a real hero. That's when the the ice cream truck starts showing back up. Yeah, and then uh Curtis is like, I got this. And he just starts like with like an oozy, just like missing,
37:55and like Brett walks up and she's just like and she has her own gun and she just goes, It's like in Starship Troopers where you watch them like just hail of bullets. Like there's nothing that can withstand that amount of firepower. And you're watching these stupid arachnids just get smoked, but they don't die and they can still kill people. And then you watch Neil Patrick Harris shoot three rounds and down one. And he just goes, watch this. It goes, pow, pow, pow. And it's just like and dead. It's like, what?
38:23Hayden:Have you ever tried to hip fire an a rifle? Like just like did in the movies, just every other Saturday. Just to see what it's like.
38:31I tried to hip fire a double barrel shotgun once. Yeah. With both barrels at the same time. That was a bad idea.
38:37Hayden:Launch out of your hands.
38:38Well, no, but it felt like I was about to break my thumb. Like it hurt bad.
38:43Hayden:But I I did it one time with some 556, and I was like, nowhere close to paper. It was like the movies where like people are running for their life and there's just bullets all around them. And I was like, okay, well, if I aim, I just don't understand why people don't do that. Why it's like not considered sexy or cool to aim.
39:02Well, because if you're like Arnold Schwarzenegger in commando, you don't have to aim. You can shoot even pistols, there's hip fire, shotguns, hip fire. You might as well shoot from behind your back. M60, hip fire! Nothing that doesn't make any sense. Doesn't make any sense whatsoever. And then you fire the last couple in the air while going, ah. As you're supposed to. Anyway. Anyway. Yeah, mainround they escape a. A lot of them escape. Yeah. Even after the like the mow down of the Dixie boy. Because like the one guy like busts and goes, what the is going on in here? And he's just still standing, and just like his chest explodes. Like he hasn't been there for a couple of days already. I know, like he didn't know.
39:46They did give the actors like all the squibs. Yeah, they were just like put all like put like eight of them on that guy. And they didn't even like lose that many people. It was still like a whole town. It is funny.
39:59Hayden:So they just like bring in some random extras. Like, well, we can't kill these people off. They're too established. So this guy was there the whole time. He was just back.
40:07Yeah, he was in the men's room. And even when Bill goes to talk to Joey and he's pooping, and they have like I I sometimes like squish sound. Yeah. The dude's just dropping logs and just like damn it, I can't talk to you about it. He's like, come on, you can tell me. He's like looking over the thing. He's like, get out of here. You freak. You're trading my meaning. Trying to poop. Uh they destroyed the Dixie Boy. Which, like, the trucks like committed like seppuko. Yeah.
40:38Hayden:Yeah, they all blew up or what?
40:40Like the nitrogen truck like exploded. Except like the happy toy. Yeah, that's very sneaky. Green goblin truck that sneaks up on people.
40:50Hayden:They shoot it with a with like a handgun or something, don't they? Like a rifle or whatever. I thought they still had the rocket. Did they have the rocket launcher at that point?
40:58At the end.
40:58Hayden:And they missed it.
41:00No. So as the remaining people approach the marina, the ice cream truck appears, but Brett and Curtis open fire and destroy it. The green goblin truck stalks them to the marina and it kills Brad, a trucker distracted by a diamond ring on a corpse's finger. It's like, Brad. There's a time and a place. I just don't understand how I don't understand how that goblin truck, but that big green face and a 18-wheeler sneaks up going.
41:25Hayden:They show him too. He's like walking towards the camera and this thing's like like gaining. It's like 20 feet. But he turns, he's like, explodes.
41:38He just starts and there's like the like dead stare. Like he like arches his back up, like pulls his chin up a little bit.
41:45Hayden:He's like, if he had just like laid down or something, yeah.
41:51Yeah, he would have been fine. But no. Kills him. All for a massive diamond ring on that woman's finger. Yeah. It's like, what if it was costume jewelry? It had to have been. Like you died for costume jewelry.
42:02Hayden:She was dead inside the car. Yeah. Right?
42:05The window rolled up on her. Yeah, the window like rolled up and like crushed. That car came to life. That one car. After Bill destroys it with a hit from the rocket from a rocket shot, the survivors board a sailboat and sail for Haven. Further events are described in text while the boat sails away. Two days later, the machines go silent when a UFO hiding in the comet's tail is destroyed by a Soviet space platform disguised as a weather satellite equipped with nuclear missiles and a laser cannon.
42:40Hayden:See, it's all about Cold War. That was a subplot.
42:43Six days later, Earth passes out of the comet's tail, and the survivors are still alive. Wow. Oh until maximum overdrive two reloaded. Nine million dollar budget. Instead of animals are instead of uh machines, just the plants that come alive. Yeah,$3.5 million North American.
43:05Hayden:There is a sequel to this. It's called The Happening.
43:09This is a better, this is a better movie though than The Happening. Yeah, it is. Instead of Mark Wahlberg confused. What? What? Everybody just running from the wind. I mean, this was like tangible. Yeah.
43:22Hayden:Yeah.
43:23I mean, like And the soundtrack was just so much better.
43:26Hayden:The concept, the concept is not a bad idea. Like, what if the machines came to life and killed us all? Like, I get it.
43:31But they just done better in Terminator?
43:33Hayden:They just dropped the ball so much. Like, okay, explain better.
43:37It's based on the short story trucks. Which they actually basically like humans are enslaved. It's like a cheap C or D level movie, but yeah. R like the movie. We're that far down the alphabet. We're almost in the double digits, almost at the 20s. But this movie, like it's based on the short story. The short story is like the gist of it. There's less people, a lot more people die. But like machine. Take over and like and actually like go to the effort to enslave humanity to do a lot of things that they're still not able to. Yeah. And it's like, we'll let you live gas. Yeah, kind of gas. Or like fix the machines or like do certain things.
44:15Hayden:I think if you were to remake this movie today and you were to have like the only thing with processor chips that could be taken over, that would make sense. Like a lot of cars and stuff have computers on them, and I get it. But like you know, your cell phones are tracking people, you have like uh AI and stuff involved, all sorts of things. Not just like stuff that makes no sense. Like, why would a uh an electric knife come to life and start cutting people? It's got all it is is a knife with a motor. That's it.
44:44And you gotta think there's other like appliances inside this place, like the ovens, refrigerators.
44:51Hayden:It doesn't attack people or anything. Yeah, I totally get it. Open up the fridge and start shooting ice icicles, you know, hard, you know, little bullets. You get like a chicken leg stuck in your eyeball. Well you got trivia.
45:05Well, no, I I had to do my punishment.
45:07Hayden:Oh, okay.
45:08And you know, it it's not a movie that's worth doing a whole episode for. Alright. It's called Alligator. Thanks, Hayden. You like it? Alligator. Anyways, an alligator. You have the uh basically it starts with this guy is like at a Florida like alligator show. He's like, look at Rocky, you know, kind of like Joe Dirt. And all of a sudden he's like he steps on a log and falls, and the alligator starts ripping his leg off, and then people are like, Oh man, that looks so real. And then there's this little girl that goes, Mom, it is real. So it's really dumb. Kids say the darnest thing. It starts off, Susan. It starts off with this this girl having her basically watching this guy's leg get ripped off.
45:44And then as they're leaving the park, she gets a baby alligator.
45:47Hayden:Oh yeah.
45:48But yeah, like they sell her a baby alligator and her dad buys it. And then what an irresponsible father.
45:55Tom:It's like a goldfish.
45:56Look, when he needs to eat, you need to feed him, and when he needs to go out, you take him. I'm not raising this alligator. Funny you say that because the next scene it goes where the dad comes storming in the house. He's like, She didn't take care of it again. It messed all over the all over like the kitchen or something like that. So he grabs the alligator out of the cage, holds it by its tail, because like the little girl's gone, so it's just the mom and the dad there, goes, drops it in the toilet, and flushes it. Well, come to find out, there's this uh uh detective who they keep having these dogs disappear.
46:27Tom:My partner was killed by an alligator. Well, the farm's name Hostel Gato.
46:32Well, there's a there's some kind of like science experiment pharmacy place somewhere around the city, and they're basically the pet store owner is kidnapping dogs and then selling them to the pharmacy, like farms or what do you call it, pharmaceutical. They're doing it like a Beethoven blatant line, kinda, because he's injecting them with all these like steroids and hormones and stuff, trying to test whatever to create the super dogs. Well, and it's mega air button. They find one dog that's like they say doubled in size in the last two weeks. It was dead. Well, all the dead like experimenting on animals, they just he takes into like uh you know how like LA has like the what do you call it the river?
47:13The LA River basin.
47:14Hayden:He shoots it up with bleach and he's like, I didn't do anything.
47:18Well, they he basically takes all the dead animals, pushes them in a shopping cart underneath like the sewers, and then just dumps them into the water. Well, it's evidently this alligator's been living down there for 15 years.
47:29Hayden:Oh, we're back to the alligator. Uh I was wondering how this was all gonna be connected. Steroided out, yeah.
47:34And so dead dogs. Essentially, you know, you find out later the alligator's as big as like a sedan. Like just the body, not including the tail. Is this the one where the alligator is like going down the street and the kids like throwing knives at the movie? Alright, alright, I'm in it. But uh basically the the shop owner disposes of them. Well, this uh like sewer worker or whatever it goes you know missing, so they start looking for him and he's dead. They're finding body parts, and none of the body parts match to each other.
48:04Tom:Is he okay?
48:05So they assume like there's this serial killer down there in the sewers. So this cop who's like you know on the edge, he's he had a partner before that got killed, so nobody wants to be his partner now.
48:15Hayden:Of course, of course. He's gonna be like Grizzly in like you know a 12 o'clock shadow. It's uh Robert Forster. His wife left uh because he's Robert Forster? He's married to the job.
48:25Don Cherry. Oh wow, yeah. This is this is the cop.
48:28Hayden:Or Max Cherry from his kids won't talk to him anymore.
48:32Oh, he doesn't have any kids. He's he's all alone, but but none of the cops want to work with him. His last partner got killed, so none of the cops want to work with him. So he eventually just grabs his rookie and goes down to the sewer.
48:42Hayden:Kamara, cannon fodder.
48:44He dies because they go they go looking, and like they have a I can't remember if it's a camera. A rookie.
48:50Hayden:Okay. Was he wearing a red shirt? No. Okay.
48:52But he goes looking either has that a camera or I can't remember if it's a video camera or actual camera, but he goes looking around and like they for whatever reason they're walking down this one pipeline, and all of a sudden there's a split-off section, so he's like, hmm, I'm gonna go look this way. He dies immediately. Like, well, I don't say immediately. He turns the corner and the alligator, you just see like the mouth in his face.
49:15Tom:No.
49:16And he takes off running. Well, they try to climb out like the ladder onto the street, and they climb up. Well, uh David Madison, which is Robert Forrester, he climbs up first and tries to push the uh the manhole cover. Well, the other guy crawls up behind him, but his feet are still dangling down enough to where the alligator can get to him. So he can't put he can't push the manhole cover off, and this guy, he just watches this guy get eaten and dragged away.
49:42Hayden:I'm gonna haunt you forever.
49:44Well, it's funny, he's like he's holding onto his hand, he gets dragged down, and all of a sudden he falls, and he's like laying there on his back with his arms up looking at him, and you just see him get dragged like out of screen. But then the whole time you have Robert Forster's character just going, the guys are never gonna believe him. I'm so startled. Well, and so because of this, he's like going back, telling him it's a giant alligator. They go and nobody believes him at first. He finds uh I can't remember what it was. He's like Billy.
50:14Hayden:He's like, no, Billy just died. I can't remember You're crazy.
50:18I can't remember it. They find something, um, and then they they find like a tooth in one of the uh what's called the limbs that are found. Oh yeah. So like it must be some kind of alligator. So they him and like his police chief go to this scientist.
50:30Hayden:Oh, I was gonna say, I was about to ask, is there some sort of scientist character archetype? Like Anacon. And he hooks up with her, yeah. Yeah, yeah, all right.
50:41Full frontal nudity and everything.
50:43Hayden:Wow, there it is.
50:44But she lives with her mom.
50:46Hayden:Well, she's an alligator scientist. It's not like it's a very loop.
50:49She's a she's a professor. Oh. And yeah, but she lives with her mom. No student loans, but welcome to alligator 101.
50:57Hayden:Don't flush the alligator. Don't ever flush alligators. All right, finals are on Tuesday. But uh essentially, she's Are you gonna collect the homework?
51:05They go and see her, and uh, she's like, Well, alligators can't be that big, they don't grow that size. And he's like, Okay, well, I'm telling you they do. And uh so they argue back and forth. Eventually, they the some reporter that's like making fun of the officer because his other partner died, so now this partner's missing.
51:22Hayden:Wait, wait, what?
51:23But they have like a newspaper.
51:24Hayden:How many partners has this guy gone through?
51:26Well, his original one from another city, and then this one.
51:28Hayden:Did he did his original one get eaten by an alligator?
51:30No, his original one got shot by him on accident.
51:33Hayden:Oh. He bought the French connection? That's uh yeah, I wouldn't want to be his partner either.
51:38Well, they go back and like this bad guy's been writing bad articles in the newspaper about him.
51:42Hayden:Well, they have I would too.
51:44They have a press conference and like he's badgering him.
51:46Hayden:Well, so the dude with the gun couldn't even kill the alligator.
51:50Well, he tells him, he tells him, you know, it's an alligator and nobody believes him, so the uh news reporter goes down with his camera and he gets attacked and he takes all these pictures. He's like, ah, click, click, click, click. Ah, click, click, click, click.
52:02Tom:Oh my gosh, my legal.
52:03Click, click, click, click. So I'm gonna get the pullet set for this.
52:06Tom:Post mortem.
52:07He died, he dies, but they find his camera. They find his camera, and then they they uh he pulls out uh I can't remember if it's got the morgue finds it, but they pull out the camera, like the photos, and he's like, Oh, can you believe this? And it's like, yeah, when do the rats get so big? He's like, No, the next picture. Like, like the morgue guy's like, no, and the next one. It's like, yeah, these rats are huge. We're here for a reason, people. And they you just see like the maul of like the the alligator, you know, snapping down on him. These are just pictures of his own pecker. Ah, this guy. Back when you had the male dick pics. What a prankster. Well, so they're you they realize the alligator's
52:48real. The the chief goes and he's like, Alright, we're gonna call we're gonna call in SWAT. So they have like four SWAT teams at different locations go into the sewer. The sewer. The sewer. They go into the sewer and try to like corral him out onto like the what do you call it? Whatever you call the river bank.
53:05Hayden:Do they get eight?
53:06No, they don't even find it. Like somehow, there's one scene where as they're walking by, like, banging loud noise, you know, noises, whatever they're banging, and uh you see the alligator like crawling underneath this area right as they're walking over.
53:18Hayden:Because he's he knows the alligator's smart. But then what was that swap brief like?
53:23All right, guys. There's a big alligator in the sewer.
53:27Hayden:We're gonna Operation Cobra, but it's an alligator. Stay with me here.
53:32Why can we call it Operation Crocodile Dundee? They because of this, they all like they're all like, you know, you you've got to be seeing things. It can't be real, even though there are pictures. And uh so a lot of dead people. This guy goes and accuses the the pharmaceutical place because they find that scientist helps find evidence, and uh he accuses the pharmaceutical person. Evidently the pharmaceutical like turns into an alligator. Well, the CEO guy is friends with the mayor, so that gets the cop fired.
53:59Hayden:What?
54:00The mayor. So the scientist and the the cop go back down there looking for it on their own with like a plan to blow it up with Excuse me, the ex-cop. Yeah, the ex-cop. They go down there and look a private eye. He he takes uh I need your badge and your gun.
54:15Tom:He takes explod- I just need my gun.
54:17He gets explosives from the evidence room to to kill the alligator. Well, they go down there and as they're looking around, the uh alligator shows up, they take off running, he tries to set the bomb with this timer. He climbs up another uh why a timer?
54:33Hayden:I don't know. Just throw some dynamite in its mouth.
54:36But he climbs up to try and go through another manhole cover. The scientists up there on a radio with him.
54:40Hayden:Well, this the manhole cover gimmick again?
54:43Yeah, except for this time, this old lady like parks, like she's pulling up to this like construction that's going on. She parks and leaves her tire on top. So then you have the timer counting down.
54:51Hayden:So this is about senior citizens shouldn't drive, I got you.
54:54Well, yeah, after the after the scientist breaks the door open because she won't move and like shoves her to the passenger seat to move the uh move the car. My hip. Everything blows up, and then they they don't find any evidence. Well, then like as it's getting dark, they're like walking on down the street, the ex-cop and scientist, and all of a sudden the alligator like bursts through the sidewalk. What? Well because of the commotion, they cut like the police are called. Some police car comes in, drives, sees it, the alligator slaps the car with his tail, which causes it to crash. The the cop crawls out of the window, like this random cop gets eaten, or well, gets his legs eaten off. Oh and uh this one, like more and more cops come in and they
55:34go, they call in like a big game hunter.
55:36Hayden:I hope they got alligator health insurance so they get that disability.
55:40Well, they like they call it a big game hunter that's gonna lead the lead the uh the charge from here. Well, he gets eaten because the alligator's hiding in the trash. Like he's in a pile of. I thought you were about to say the trees. The alligator, the size of like a subway car, is hiding underneath a newspaper. Well, they can't see me if I do this. The big game hunter in a trench coat. He goes to these three guys standing on the corner at the liquor store, and he's like, Hey, I need some people to show me around, you know, the native guides. I'm like, oh my god.
56:10Hayden:The native guide?
56:11Oh, is it well because he's a big game hunter from like you know, overseas. I was like, oh my god. So he goes down this alley, they hear the alligator, so he's like, Come on. And the three guys are like, uh-uh. Well, as he's getting attacked and eaten, they all take off running.
56:30Hayden:Nope. So, anyways, that guy died. Yeah.
56:34Um, let's see.
56:35Hayden:He was like the dude from Jurassic Park where he's like, clever girl. Clever girl.
56:39Well, while while this guy's getting eaten, that's when the the uh ex-cop and the scientist kind of had like a falling out because they had disagreement. Well, now's the time while they're hooking up because they're getting back together.
56:49Hayden:Yeah, make up makeup relations.
56:52Well, after this guy's eaten, it crawls out, the alligator crawls out onto the street like and starts causing all sorts of rampage ruckus, and it crawls into this giant pond in the middle of the city, but they have like speed boats, and it's a where is this? Where does it take place? I'm assuming LA. Oh, okay. But then there's like these giant these speedboats like trying to circle the alligator, and the alligator like knocks one of the speedboats up into the air as it goes by because he like raises up out of the water, propels the speedboat into the air. Well, then he eats one of the guys' legs off of that as they're trying to get him out of the water. But you can clearly see it's like an amputee guy that's got
57:27his legs, he's got like the pants pinned together at the bottom. Ouch. Oh god, oh no, I'm losing my legs again. I mean, for the first time. So at this point, the you know, the swap people are in the water trying to get him. Well, he he crawls out and makes it to the pharmaceutical guy's daughter's wedding. Nice at his mansion. Of course he does. And as the pharmaceutical and the mayor, like the pharmaceutical guy and the mayor. What is it, like the president gonna show up? Well, they get into the limo because the alligator's like Pope. The alligator's killing people and like destroying the you know the wedding. They get into the limo, the alligator makes its way to the limo because he just knows who these people are, yeah, and
58:06basically just beats the limo to death with his tail and crutches them inside. Yes.
58:12Tom:Then he steals the limo.
58:14He gets five stars and he steals like the bridal purse, and he's just like, yeah. It's a robbery. So then they set a trap with my daughter's wedding. They set a trap with more dynamite and a methane pocket in the sewer.
58:25Hayden:A methane, okay. Are all sewers a methane pocket?
58:28Ah, well, evidently this one's like enough to where he had to have a like a mass to breathe in this area.
58:33Tom:It smells like poo gas down here, so it's Chicago.
58:36Um, but eventually they they blow up the alligator with that, and then they leave it up open for a sequel because like as the credits are playing, it goes back to the sewer and there's a little pipe, and you see a little another baby alligator fall down. Stop flushing alligators. Yes, it was. It was a horribly stupid movie. It sounds like it was fun though. I mean, it was like I it's not definitely not the worst I've seen, but it was it was it was funny but dumb at the same time. I was just waiting for it to be over.
59:03Hayden:We went on a shark kick for a while. Maybe we should do an alligator kick.
59:06Yeah, we haven't tapped into the super croc, some kind of movie.
59:09Hayden:Have you seen Lake Placid? Oh, yeah, yeah.
59:11You've seen Lake Placid 3? No. Wait a minute. There's two? I know there's at least a two and a three. I don't know if they made a four. Yes.
59:20Hayden:Yes because she's like feeding it cows, she feeds it her toes like that little alligator babies nibble her toes. Yeah.
59:28Yeah, but then she's feeding the horse to it. Or the horse horse or cow or a cow. Because I think what Oliver Platt is in that movie. Oh, that's right. Yeah. What, Brennan Gleason? Is that the main guy? I thought it was the guy. Bill Pullman. Bill Pullman, yeah. Bill Pullman's in it, but Gleason's in it, the angry older Irish guy who's a brave heart and all kinds of stuff.
59:48Hayden:We should do Lake Placid. Alright. Can that be my punishment?
59:53Lake Placid?
59:54Hayden:Yeah. Or any.
59:55Are you gonna rewatch it? Any any crazy? Are you gonna go off of when you saw it 12 years ago?
59:59Hayden:I'm not I'm not Tom. Okay. I I will watch Lake Placid, but can my punishment for last episode be some crappy alligator movie? Yes. Okay. I will change three Lake Placid three. Alright, I'll I'll watch Late Placid 1. I'll skip two and go straight to three.
1:00:14Isn't that how you do like the what was it? The uh was it the cop movie that we did? Samurai cop. No, there was there was another one that was like a mean cop, but he was like, Garbage day! There was a first, or there's either a first and I went you went straight to second, or I sent you straight to the third for no reason. Yeah. Garbage day. Anyways, you know, that's that that's alligator, the movie from 1980s. It's bad.
1:00:38Hayden:Well, I mean, you gotta give it credit. It was titled Alligator.
1:00:42This is everybody trying to get in on the action of Jaws. Yeah, pretty much.
1:00:45Hayden:And it had Alligator in it.
1:00:48So mission accomplished.
1:00:50Hayden:They did it. Poor uh, what's his name, Robert Guy.
1:00:54I do find it funny because you were talking about the kid throwing knives. They're out there playing like baseball or something like that in the street. Well, when this all goes down, the the kid runs inside, the mom won't get off the phone because she's just like yelling at him and he's trying to explain what's happening. Yeah, he grabs the kitchen knife and runs back out the door. Yeah. Yeah, I remember that scene. Because the alligator's just going out, she's like, and he's just like Jesus, and he's like throwing stuff out the window. He grabs the kitchen knife and runs out, and she's like, Billy! unknown: Billy! It's like, oh, now you care.
1:01:22Hayden:Was uh alligator CG?
1:01:24No.
1:01:24Hayden:It was not practical.
1:01:25Uh it was eight guys in trash bags. It was it was practical, and then it was like almost like some parts of it look like stop motion.
1:01:33Hayden:Oh, okay.
1:01:34Now I'm sure there was some that was like uh some kind of mechanical or something. Because they they did really other than like the stop motion look and the practical one, they only showed close-ups of it for like brief seconds. Oh they did good in that part, but they didn't show too much.
1:01:47Hayden:That's good. That's good. Alright, well, we got plenty of material for uh the next recording. This Halloween is brought to you by alligators.
1:01:57You have to watch Crocodile Dundee three.
1:02:01Hayden:Is there a third one?
1:02:02Yeah.
1:02:03Hayden:Oh man. Is there a crocodile in it or something?
1:02:07I'm sure there is. Surely.
1:02:10Hayden:No, it's about that dude.
1:02:11Yeah, I know.
1:02:13Hayden:I want to do a horror alligator movie. Cheesy horror movie. Whatever. I'll we'll feel Lake Placid.
1:02:20A double feature. We do Lake Placid and Crocodile Dundee. unknown: Okay. Because there is a crocodile in crocodile. Because he kills it with a with you know, that's not a knife, that's a knife.
1:02:31Hayden:We're supposed to be getting into cheesier horror movies for the season.
1:02:35Well, if if you're horribly terrified of crocodiles or alligators, both technically count.
1:02:41Hayden:Alright, well, there you go. We got plenty of material. Looking forward to it. Entertain this.app.
1:02:47Check it out. Yeah. Gotcha.
1:02:49Hayden:Make it some suggestions. The closer we get to Halloween, you know, the more serial stuff, uh, serious stuff, like uh I really want to see the new Resident Evil movie.
1:02:56I do too.
1:02:57Hayden:So it's oh yeah, Tom don't like scary stuff right now. No, no, no, no, no. You got it. People. You'll be fine.
1:03:07You have to be brave now. You have children. unknown: Yeah. Just roll the size. Well, now I gotta go through like the horror of like your newborn like making weird, horrible noises in the middle of the night.
1:03:18Hayden:No, no, just wait till it is like you wake up to your child staring at you. That's a great feeling.
1:03:23Just think of it this way. You're a husband and a father now. If anything's coming into that house, you're gonna die first because you're supposed to sacrifice yourself for the family. You're right, he did have the knife.
1:03:39Hayden:And in my new house, I slept. My wife makes me sleep on the left side of the bed, and I'm like, why are we changing?
1:03:44So you're closer to the door. So if somebody comes through the door, you die first.
1:03:47Hayden:She's like, because you're closest to the door. I'm like, why? And she's like, so you can die first. At least she's honest. And I was like, okay.
1:03:55Well, your children first, not Hayden first.
1:03:58Hayden:What? Oh no. Alright, well, there you go.
1:04:02Alright, bye. Bye. Bye.
1:04:11Hayden:Oh yeah.
