0:02Tom:Every person in this studio has the perfect motive for podcasting. But only one of these podcasters is the main host. Is it the monotone Hayden?
0:13Hayden:My name is Hayden. Hey.
0:15Tom:Or is it Macho Man Mitch? Or is it Tom, the full-time but really part-time host? I like Lord of the Rings. Or does the butler host the show? Entertain this invites you to an episode of mystery, podcast entertainment, and madness. On an episode that makes a scene of the crime, it's not just a game, it's a podcast.
0:41Hayden:First try.
0:43Tom:Woo! I can read. If you haven't guessed, we're doing clue. Here's your clue.
0:50What's your clue?
0:51Hayden:And you listeners should be honored. That's the most contribution Tom has given the podcast in years.
0:56Tom:Yeah, ever since the Law and Order intro. What's great is the two of you just staring at me like I can't believe we're doing this. And I hit the dun dun music, and the both of you fell out of the chairs. You're like, all right, when it all comes together. But before we uh make a scene of this crime of a movie, we should probably do our social media plugs. Mitchell.
1:20Mitch:Oh yeah. Well, you can go to entertainth.app, which will take you to our Facebook group page, uh, our X, our Instagram, our TikTok. Uh, but if if you need to find those separately, it's at entertainth underscore. If you want to go to our YouTube, it's at entertain this59. I'm gonna punch Hayden on the ribs.
1:42Tom:If you want to punch Hayden Red, you reach out to us.
1:44Mitch:We're not on film right now, but he's holding a bobblehead two inches from my eye.
1:48Tom:You have glasses on, you have eye protection. That'll never know.
1:51Mitch:Entertainth.app will take you to our website where we have you try your hand at some of the trivia from the uh podcast. We have another trivia game where it gives you three movie posters and you guess which of the movie actors or actresses is in each movie. We have news, uh, we have suggestions that you can give us, our ratings on the movies that we've reviewed here lately, all sorts of stuff.
2:15Hayden:Lots of cool stuff. It should be known that this podcast is not admissible in court evidence because it's only a recording. Sorry, no video. That was it, line from the movie. Oh, okay. Okay. Yeah. Yeah, when the the the maid records it. Yeah. Alright, well, anyways, go ahead. I was segueing back to Clue. Go ahead, Tom. Alright.
2:37Tom:The movie almost directed by John Landis.
2:40Hayden:Yeah, you know what movie he uh gave up? Uh this for? Uh no. unknown: I don't know. 1985. Yeah. I had it ready to go.
2:55Tom:Do you know a listener?
2:57Hayden:70% memory or attention. I know, right? Hang on a minute. Hang on a minute. Go ahead. Go ahead. Keep talking. I'm gonna yell at that.
3:09Today, Junior.
3:10Tom:Anyway, we're talking about Clue, the 1985 American film. Okay, great. Doctor. That's fantastic. Thank you for your contributions, Aiden. The 1985 American comedy film, Clue, written in or developed by John Landis based on the board game Clue, starring Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Mull, and Leslie Ann Warren. Set 1954. The film follows six strangers who are gathered at a secluded mansion where a series of murders unfolds, forcing them to determine the identity of the killer among them. Was it Mitch? It probably was. Maybe. Budget of 15 million, box office 14.6.
4:00Hayden:Yeah. But that uh VHS sale, though.
4:05Tom:Yes. The VHS was huge for this.
4:08Hayden:Uh I read that um Blockbuster said that this was one of the most stolen tapes.
4:13Mitch:Stolen tapes, why?
4:15Hayden:Because people would uh rent it to take it home and not bring it back. Well that's obviously we know what's stealing this.
4:20Mitch:But watch specifically this film overwhelmed because it's a great movie.
4:23Hayden:They just said like it was uh like a you know a huge hit after. I let's let's be honest, like before we get into the weeds of the story and everything, this movie was uh conventional because it had three alternate endings that played only those endings in movie theaters.
4:39Tom:And uh some theaters actually would put out which ending they had.
4:43Hayden:Well so you so what happened was uh when the movies came out, people were arguing about which ending was the real ending. And and mo mostly because like if you said, you know, Mr. Green did it, and I said, you know, it was the butler that did it. I don't know, you're we would both think each other's crazy because this has never been done before in a movie where they have alternate endings.
5:03Mitch:So unlike the actual like VHS or whatever, it had e every theater had their own ending. Yeah, so you did okay.
5:08Tom:So like one of like you can go see it in Los Angeles and Mrs. Peacock's the murderer, you can go see it in Atlanta and it's Wadsworth the Butler, or you go to New York and it's Martin Mul.
5:17Hayden:That's pretty cool. Colonel Mustard. The uh the convention, uh the idea behind it was that uh people would want to pay for to see the movie three times so they could see all three endings. Well, there was a lot of uh skepticism behind that, and then the critics, mainly Roger Ebert and Siskel, didn't like it, and they they pooped on it big time.
5:38Mitch:Well, of course, because it's not traditional.
5:40Hayden:Well, yeah, and so since that happens, uh uh Paramount panicked and then put out which theaters had an A, B, or C ending, and in order to explain what endings were what, they basically had to spoil the movies in the newspaper that that it was coming out for. So it was kind of it it shot itself in the foot on launch.
5:59Mitch:So they should have just said like this is ending A, B, or C, and not explained it.
6:02Tom:Just if they did it, like how if you watch it now on streaming, like you know, or you know, it could end it like this, or maybe like this. But and then but this is how it really ended.
6:11Hayden:They have the three tile cars that are yeah, so it would have been cool if they had just kind of like done that, but they'd already print and like film back in the day was super expensive, so you can't just like recall and then re-exhibit films with a proper ending cut. I think like maybe two directors have ever done that before. And uh this movie was not gonna be that movie. So uh yeah, Paramount was pretty pissed about that, but when the VHS cut came out, uh they did staple the three endings together, and that's why it sold like gangbusters. I still appreciate the novelty behind having you know different endings for different viewers because people arguing on the streets about who's which ending was right would be like an like
6:56Hayden:kind of like the thing in the movie, right? Yeah, so it'd be i i it's a it's a fun take. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened, and I think it'd be cool to see that in movies today, but I think nobody's gonna do that.
7:07Mitch:I think the idea of it was just if they argued, they would go back and watch it again so they could try and see if maybe why this other person chose that, you know.
7:13Hayden:Right.
7:14Mitch:Maybe that was the reason.
7:15Hayden:Yeah.
7:15Mitch:Even if they didn't know there were separate ones.
7:17Hayden:I watched a deep dive into the movie and why all three endings could be the actual one and why like there's holes, there's plot holes in all three of them, so it's really just shooter's choice.
7:27Tom:They really do explain the endings like as it goes, where it's like Wadsworth pretty much breaks it down. Yeah. Of like, no, like you had this opportunity to go do this, you had this to do this, you had this to do that, and it's like, huh. I remember seeing this movie the first time, and I don't remember much of the plot the first time I watched it because I was too busy staring at Yvette and Miss Scarlet.
7:50Hayden:Miss Scarlet. Yeah. Which, by the way, out of the two of them, Miss Scarlet looks the exact same today. I it's it's it's amazing. I don't know what virgin blood she's bathed in, but like it's it's impressive. You know.
8:03Mitch:Well, I did write down there's one part Miss Scarlet's dress is holding on for dear life. Well, there was one part where Yvette, the maid, is getting ready to go up the steps with Mr. Green. She's about to blow out of that top. It's like, I don't think she can hide a tighter top.
8:17Hayden:So the the the costume designer, the same guy who like did costume designs for uh Fight Club, and he did something more recent. Um I can't remember, but he he he did a bunch of like you know, Oscar worthy movies and stuff. He did uh this movie and he put Miss Scarlet at least that I know of in such a tight course that she couldn't sit down. So they had to like make a lean to for her to like between takes just kind of like rest her body against. Otherwise, she was standing for like 16 hours out of the day. So yeah.
8:50Mitch:And I'll say, uh, what was the the lady that played uh Scarlet?
8:55Tom:Uh Leslie Ann Warren.
8:56Mitch:She at first, because I hadn't seen it in a while, I I was like, that's the Gordon Weaver. Like, and then when I saw her in like in brighter light, I was like, oh never mind. unknown: Yeah. Because I didn't without looking at the cast to begin with, I was like, that would have been that would have been a fine casting choice, too. Yeah.
9:09Hayden:Do you know that she was supposed to play Mrs. White?
9:12Tom:And Carrie Fisher was supposed to be Miss Scarlet. Yeah.
9:16Hayden:Oh, that would have been better.
9:17Tom:But Carrie Fisher checked herself into rehab.
9:19Hayden:Yeah, and everybody cleared her because rehab was gonna allow her to go to the film to shoot. But like three or four days before production started, Paramount Insurance companies were like, no. All the like everybody, the director, the producers, everybody all the way up said, yeah, she'll be fine. And then but the Paramount Product Insurance was like, No, or not, no, no, no. Not the cocaine queen of the 80s. Yeah, the the director, uh Jonathan, what's his name? Uh Jonathan Lynn. Yeah, Jonathan Lynn. He's a he's an English director. He's like, I just assumed everybody in Hollywood had hay fever because they were sniffing so much. They're all crippling coke addictions.
10:04Mitch:Well, I like at the very beginning of the movie, they kind of joke about that too. Because as he's walking in, he like feeds the dogs and then he steps in some of the some of them.
10:13Tom:He steps into the dog crap. Yeah, everybody comes in and it's like yeah. Like Madeline Kahn's like checking her shoes and she's like, Madeline Kahn's hilarious.
10:23Hayden:When he when he's like when he when he's like uh running around and he grabs her to drag her up the stairs and she just face plants upstairs. I laugh so hard every time I see that.
10:39Tom:This movie, like there's the physical comedy of this movie, like the and it's not even like slapstick a lot of the time. Yeah, there's it is where Wadsworth with Mr. Green Michael McKean.
10:51Hayden:It's a lot of different kinds of humor. It's witty humor. So like it the the original script was pitched in a 1940s, 1950s, Who Done It uh like uh cadence style.
11:03Tom:Like they had all them all the actors come in and watch My Girl Friday with Terry Grant.
11:09Hayden:Like there's little little silence between takes. It's supposed to be like rapid fire, you know, uh lines delivered, and kind of have that like monotone and new Atlantic kind of accent, you know, uh delivery, but uh I think it was a healthy blend. And on top of that, you know, they they sprinkled in some slapstick and they sprinkled in some wit in some political humor of the 1980s and of the 1950s. Yeah. And uh I like how Wendell is just a red hat.
11:35Mitch:Mr. Nobody attacks Colonel Mustard, he basically three stooges in Pokesmania. Yes, Mr.
11:40Hayden:Body.
11:43Mitch:Sorry, Mr. Body. I always want to call him nobody. Do you have tries somebody have trivia for this? I have some that I could pull up.
11:48Hayden:Oh, okay. No.
11:49Tom:Uh his name is like the funniest name. Mr. Body. His real name.
11:54Hayden:Oh, yeah, leaving. Leaving? Yeah. Oh. What band? What band was he the front man for?
11:59Tom:Uh yeah.
12:04Hayden:I'll give you a hint. It was a punk rock band. They got b they got banned. This band was banned from Sunday Night Alive for inciting a riot. I know what you're talking about.
12:16Tom:I can't remember the name of it.
12:17Hayden:Fear. unknown: Fear. Yeah. Never heard of him. Uh this guy, he he he kind of did it acting on the side of his musical career, and he was in a couple other movies. Um, I can't remember anything spectacular, but you know. He he did seem kind of like the weird one.
12:33Mitch:Yeah, he didn't fit in with the rest of the movie, really.
12:35Hayden:But he also, these uh so this was also written by um playwrights. Okay. They went through five writings before uh they finally uh sealed the deal. One of the famous playwrights who actually wrote Murder Mysteries, like I got the Christie esque kind of murder mysteries for the play, uh, couldn't do it. He sent his paycheck back. So this was a hard uh movie to develop. And then when Jonathan Lynn got it, he he did some uh uh uh a final rewrite and then uh they sold it, you know, he he was able to sell his uh pitch. Um some of the original concepts from the movie was was bananas, like they um they wanted it to be kind of more like a dark serial killer story where Mr. Green was killed with like a rope in a in a library, but like
13:24Hayden:an actual building that's a library and uh there was a serial killer going around the United States like killing people with these specific weapons, these specific people, you know, yeah. And so it was it was it was different, and you know, and then but like finally you know Jonathan Landis being from National Lampoon, yeah. Yeah, he's he he he kind of have a comedy bone, and I I think that that came out the right way for Clue and uh him acquiring kind of more of the woody British humor style with Jonathan Lynn. And uh here's another trivia fact. There's two other people that were casted for uh the butler before Tinder.
14:02Tom:Uh because the one guy he had died, yes, and then the other one was Rowan Atkinson. Yes, but they didn't think he would he wasn't a big name. Oh and they're like, nah, it's like we're not gonna get star power out of that. So they got Tim Curry instead.
14:16Hayden:Yeah, they got Tim Curry, who had just done uh Legend, I think, which is a weird shit for him.
14:22Mitch:Yeah, so have you ever seen that? Uh-oh. He's the devil.
14:25Tom:Oh that's the movie where he's the devil. Tom Cruise. Yeah, okay. Because Frank Inferter, and then he's like the ship's doctor in the hunt for Red October.
14:36Hayden:Well, that was later.
14:37Tom:Five years later than this.
14:38Hayden:Yeah. So but he had done a couple of movies, and uh, but I think like this really made him more prominent in America through through Clue, even though it wasn't considered a quote unquote success. I think by the by the 1990s, he was a big deal. So whenever it came out in 1990, yeah.
14:56Mitch:So yeah, it and then he was uh wasn't he along John Silver?
15:01Hayden:Yeah, yeah, the Muppet uh Treasure Island.
15:04Tom:Home Alone 2.
15:05Hayden:Yeah. unknown: Yeah.
15:07Mitch:Uh oh, he was also he was gonna be uh the Joker originally. Was he in the Batman the animated series?
15:12Hayden:That would have been a weird one.
15:14Mitch:He was actually gonna be cast uh I thought I wanna say either something happened or I can't remember if he backed out or what, but that then they went with Mark Hampbell. But he was the original person that because they have like recorded footage of his, you know, I guess Skits as the Joker.
15:30Hayden:Yeah. One of his la last interviews he had before he died, somebody asked him what his favorite movie was that he did, and he said Clue was his favorite movie. So and uh also, did you guys know there was a secret fourth ending?
15:45Mitch:I did not.
15:46Tom:Yeah, that they it was a little it was a little wild, it was a little wild.
15:49Hayden:The butt the butler did it all.
15:51Tom:He killed everybody, including the uh six like he poisons all of them with like the champagne they have at the beginning, yeah, and they all like die, and he like gets into like a shootout with the cops, or he gets arrested, and he like steals the car, kills them.
16:04Hayden:He runs out the front door, uh, he locks the one cop, the uh the guy with the pamphlet, the the traveling vision. Chief. Yeah, get him chief. He locks him in the building, runs out, gets into a car to to drive away, and the two German shepherds from the beginning are there. And they they maul him while he wrecks into a tree.
16:22Tom:They're like in the backseat, like in Hot Fuzz where he's driving away and like the the swan. Yeah it's just like he like looks in the river and they're like he crashes and they just maul him to death.
16:32Hayden:Yeah, so like uh that kind of makes more sense, like the beginning, because like the dogs and the dog poop and all that, like you kind of forget about it and you're like, What do they why do they do all that?
16:42Mitch:But now like that Well that they make a big deal about the po the uh drinks might have been poisoned or something like that, too.
16:51Tom:I had to stop her from screaming. And I love how Tim Curry does it, slaps the crap out of her again later in the movie. It's like pow! It's like I had to stop her from screaming.
17:02Hayden:Yeah, yeah, there was a lot of um so like this was shot in Pasadena. Um they the exterior has been the interiors was all studio.
17:13Tom:The exterior was like some mansion that was out there that was burned down.
17:17Hayden:It was Paramount Studios 14, 15, and 16. The main exterior that you see in those shots are actually matte uh painted glass panes that they should they overlaid on top, the top part of the frame for the drive-up. And the drive-up to the mansion, quote unquote, is still around today. You can drive past it and see it if you're in Pasadena.
17:37Tom:Because the mansion burned down in like 05, and then they had actually rebuilt it like stone by stone to be like exact to how it was.
17:45Hayden:Eh, as close to it. It's close to it. It doesn't look great. Uh I the documentary that I watched for this was in 2021, and I who knows like the guy said it took him five or six years to s to make a documentary, so who knows when it he actually captured what I saw and if it's changed since then. But uh he bought the Matt uh glass paintings for the exterior, and he he has it because he's like the number one clue fan. Apparently, like this is a huge cult following, more than people realize. Like they have clue conventions and then all people dress up like the characters and come together and dress up like the characters.
18:18Mitch:There's not that much of costume. I mean For some of them.
18:21Tom:Some of them unless you're you know the butler or Mrs.
18:24Hayden:Peacock, but they're like crazy feathers and stuff. Uh interesting costume choice was that Jonathan Landis and Jonathan Lynn both determined that the characters should not dress in the colors of their names because they're not actual names, they're uh aliases that are given to them as they come through the door. But they do drive in the cars that come to the front door in the colors of their aliases. Yeah.
18:50Tom:So I think plum has on brown, uh mustard has on red, scarlet has on green, white has on black, yeah, green has on blue.
18:58Hayden:But their cars are all those colors, like their appropriate colors. So it's it's weird what they just decide to go with and what they did.
19:06Tom:So are we ready? In 1954, six strangers are invited to a secluded New England mansion. They are greeted by the butler Wadsworth and the maid Yvette. Each is assigned a pseudonym to maintain confidentiality: Colonel Mustard, Miss White, Miss Peacock, Mr. Green, Professor Plum, and Miss Scarlet. During dinner, they discover that they all have ties to the United States government and are joined by a seventh guest, Mr. Body, with two D's. unknown: Mr.
19:37Hayden:Body. Yeah. Yeah. Um Yeah, the uh so an ensemble cast, usually when you see an Agatha Christie-esque type who done it, it's always like the detective or a character that the audience is following walks into the room and they already has everybody seated and they're all dressed intrinsically from each other to match their like weird personalities or identity. And they introduce them one at a time and they say something off the wall that helps you maintain the memory of that character to associate for the story as it goes along. The way that they chose to do this was introduce the characters to the butler and do it very haphazardly and choppy. And I kind of liked it. I liked it a lot more than what you would expect to see an
20:30Hayden:ensemble cast.
20:31Mitch:Well, I mean, it seemed more real life, I guess, because you're not gonna follow them all the way. You you bits and pieces here, but you still got stuff going on over here. Yeah.
20:38Hayden:It wasn't just like even they all showed up to the front door. Sometimes like they stopped on the side of the road to help like like the uh plum.
20:46Tom:Yeah, Scarlett's car is like down, and like he's like about to drive by and she like throws her leg up and slams on the brakes and guns it back in reverse, and he's like, car trouble.
20:56Mitch:I like how all the men in this were just like giant whored dogs. They're just every time a woman walks by, they're like, hello, except uh Mr. Green.
21:03Hayden:I thought it would have been funny too if Green saw and just kept driving past. But uh yeah, so it was a really uh kind of goofy way to introduce everybody, but it worked, and like they took their time with it too. It honestly, the first 20 minutes was everybody kind of getting introduced.
21:22Mitch:Which to me was kind of strange because they were all immediately suspicious of one another. Like none of them knew why they were there yet. They were all talking, why?
21:30Hayden:Well you hear some of them already knew each other, but there was enough red flags with the character introductions for the audience to like be like, what was going on with there? What's the deal with Mrs. White and Yvette? You know, um, or Anna, what's what's her name? Yvette?
21:45Mitch:Yvette.
21:46Hayden:Okay, yeah. All that stuff. So yeah, it was just enough to spark some drama that you would file away for later. Okay.
21:53Tom:So and then like the creepy kitchen lady with the gigantic chef's knife.
21:58Hayden:Dinner will be ready. at 7 30.
22:01Tom:He's like okay. unknown: Yeah.
22:04Hayden:I do love it's stupid and it makes no sense, but like the murder weapons, which have no purpose. They're just brought there. Are the only things that are allowed to kill people. They're like they're like avoiding all the knives in the kitchen.
22:19Yeah.
22:20Hayden:Or all the blunt objects on like the the shelves and things like that. There could be a gun on a mantle and they would still be like, you know, how do you think it's not one of the it's not locked in the thing.
22:29Tom:Yeah.
22:29Hayden:It's got to be one of the murder weapons from the board games.
22:33Tom:Candlestick, rope, gun, pipe.
22:36Mitch:Well I just like how when uh when Wadford gets ready to like introduce why they're there, he he's so delighted to like tell them all these secrets and all this stuff. Yeah.
22:45Tom:Because of him and Colonel Master Martin well he's just like what do you do he goes like I'm a butler he's like so what do you do? He goes I bottle which is actually a real word.
22:52Hayden:Yeah I was like he's in charge of the kitchen and the dining area that's what he says and I was like I think butler's in charge of a lot more than that but whatever.
23:01Tom:It's part of his bottling duties.
23:04Hayden:He bottles for butlers and butlering.
23:06Tom:I mean we talked about where him stepping in the dog crab because those dogs just come up out of nowhere and like rip his jacket apart.
23:12Hayden:What was he doing where he like was messing with the chain in the beginning taking the slack out so the dogs don't maul the guests.
23:21Tom:Gotcha gotcha because the only person I think the dogs are like do anything to is Colonel Mustard because it wasn't the same dog. Because he's just standing there. No there were two different dogs I think at the beginning they were Doberman's.
23:31Hayden:No at the beginning they were German Shepherds the one that goes through at the window to Colonel Mustard I thought that was Mr I thought that was nobody that was Colonel Mustard.
23:38Tom:No the window is Mr. Body but nobody but when Mustard's standing there because he's just like looks like he's about to like crap himself the table's a little wobbly. Oh and he's just like staring down and the dogs are just like there we go I fixed it.
23:55Hayden:Thank you. But uh yeah the dogs were just like a a lazy kind of MacGuffin to keep people inside the house.
24:02Tom:Yeah thing I was thinking about be murdered the dog's not gonna stop me right it was like torrential downpour rainstorm and flesh eating dogs meh those they're just they just need a they just need a scratch and a rubbing just throw the monkey brains at them.
24:18Mitch:Well I mean I like how they like lock the door but it's like it's a window. Yeah it's like it's just not gonna stop you.
24:25Tom:And some of the ways they go through the house don't make any sense.
24:28Hayden:Yeah so like uh later on when we get to the like the the endings some of the endings don't work because where they show people during like their proof of of uh of like why they did the murders there's no way they can get from point A to point B. Secret passages no not in some of these there wasn't a secret passage in the attic or the cellar. True the equipment I just like how what he's explaining it's like a Scooby-Doo movie where he's brrrrr they run back and forth as he's explaining he had to he was like um I think he went to the hospital Tim Curry because he was running around so much he and I guess like the the heating or whatever for the set was bad so they had to take him I think to a doctor I don't know
25:12Hayden:if it was the hospital but even like they're all sitting there and uh Mrs.
25:15Tom:Peacock's like ah shark fin suit my favorite because all the everybody's just like because it's just plum and white just going and it's like and all the everybody else is just staring at him like seriously it's just like I like and Mrs.
25:27Hayden:Peacock's just like foam like vomiting at the mouth of like I'll break the ice she she talks for like nonstop and all of them are just looking at her and like okay yeah what sells this movie isn't so much the stupidity of what people do it's also like everybody's reaction you know and there's not a lot of that today in in in comedy movies you don't see people do something crazy and then like the background or the other actors like have a normal reaction to that that makes you feel like you know you're not crazy. This is this is stupid and stuff. Yeah so I miss that kind of stuff.
26:05Tom:So they're joined by Mr Body Wazworth reveals that Body is responsible for blackmailing each guest by threatening to expose their un American activities such as murder corruption adultery and homosexual homosexuality un American I work for the State Department and I'm a homosexual he's like I have nothing to hide and then like he sits down to Christopher Lloyd and he like gets up he like leaves him I'm a plant I thought they called guys like you a fruit very funny he tells the guests that the police will soon arrive to arrest Body Body proposes that the guests kill Wadsworth to avoid their secrets being revealed and presents each with a weapon a candlestick a rope lead pipe wrench revolver and dagger
26:49Tom:before turning out the lights the worst gulag ever one guy gets a revolver yeah I know it's like what before turning out the lights after a gunshot rings out body is found apparently dead Wadsworth confesses that Body also had blackmailed him over his wife's association with socialists after she took her own life he assembled the guests to convince them to testify against Mr. Body because at first they're just like about to like go after Body and then he's like Wadsworth did it and everybody like looks at him say all right well we'll get him too it was like playing Among Us it's like I just saw blue kill orange and then Haynes like nuh convincing enough for me how the lights go out and there's all sorts of commotion and then you hear the
27:35Tom:gunshot but it's like everybody was attacking everybody there for a moment it's not like I didn't do it.
27:41Mitch:Yeah you have Mr.
27:43Hayden:Green who sits down on the table and the table collapses that I've taught yeah it's so well timed you know when that stuff happens because he's like looking for a seat looking for a seat like you had the gun it's like I shot it's like well then who did I it's like oh shucks there's a bullet hole on the wall and they like all like clamber over each other just to look at and like yep that's a bullet hole it's like maybe it was poisoned when when uh they uh what's her name when Miss Peacock is screaming like there's a I think it's Christopher Lloyd's character he's like staring down the hallway where she's at and Wadsworth just walks directly to him shoves him out of the way like unnecessarily just to shove
28:26Hayden:him he's like just keeps going.
28:29Tom:Like he could have walked way around him but it was funny just to just to shove him because he gets shoved around a bit I mean nobody I think it's slapsticked enough to come close to how much Mr Green had to put up with he was just almost getting beaten up by that house. Well Colonel Mustard did get shot so yeah well yeah you shot me you shot me because Body tries to run away and then the dogs and it's just like they all go back to the room he's like I have gifts for all of you and Scott's just like oh I love presents from strange men.
29:03Mitch:And it's like ah you hussy but even when he like pulls out the revolver everybody just like looks at him like how come he gets a gun yeah well that and then during this whole thing is um at the same time that you know supposedly Yvette is well from one of the uh endings endings it it says that Yvette did the the next part she killed the cook. Yeah.
29:28Tom:So because she's in the billiards room like recording everything and just like sitting there just like drinking just hanging out.
29:35Hayden:The whole for this one is there's no way she could have left the billiards room uh and grabbed the knife that uh Mrs. Peacock dropped without being seen and then go all the way to the kitchen to stab the cook and put the cook inside the meat locker thing and then take the secret passage all the way back to uh the billiard's room.
29:57Tom:She's just fast. Not in those heels.
30:01Hayden:Also Yvette didn't know uh the this was her first day being to the mansion so she wouldn't know how the secret passages work.
30:08Mitch:True. So I like how when the uh the cook's killed they bring her back into the uh the room and they just they just drop her on her head.
30:16Tom:Yeah it's like don't because even like they like put her like up on the couch like over plum he's just sitting there he's like looking at her butt and he's just hands just in there and he's like he's like alright just patting it he's like here we go uh no I accidentally had scrolled a little bit suspecting the cook killed body the guests search for her and find her stabbed to death in the kitchen when the door opens I like how Tim Curry like catches her or what was it yeah it was Tim Curry that caught her he's like help me he's like help they find her stabbed to death in the kitchen returning to the study they discover Body is missing and conclude he is still alive only to find him bludgeoned to death
31:01Tom:with the candlestick in the hallway. Wadsworth locks the weapons in a cupboard before he can dispose of the key a stranded motorist arrives okay because don't doesn't he like run they find him in the hallway it's like oh it was the candlestick it's like you're shouting goes I'm not shouting all right I'm shouting and the candlestick just goes and hits Tim Curry in the back of the hallway.
31:20Mitch:Like where was they just sitting on like the door frame or something and it just falls off and hits him in the head. Yeah it was like a shelving but I like how when uh was it what they make some there's some kind of noise and that's when they run and find Mr Body dead Mr Body dead that starts screaming.
31:34Tom:Yeah yeah because it's like the murderers here it's like it's like one it's one of you well they run and then that's another part where they do like the Scooby-doo run where you just see them all huddled together running down trying to figure out why the table's making and they take all the lot weaponry and put it inside because then they were yelling at Plum it's like you said he was dead it's like he was dead yeah so I guess he he that that part that never made sense for any of the endings that he was faking death and then got back up right and then to be killed again. I don't understand why they did that yeah I don't know so he was just trying to get away it was a red herring and then somebody
32:18Tom:else caught him just where Miss Peacock's sitting there like hyperventiling after getting the crab slapped out of her and it's like there's only one way we'll know it's like we'd have to just wait and all of them just like crowd around her just staring at her just like you're gonna die huh huh?
32:33Hayden:What's the what's the line? It's a red herring communism.
32:36Tom:It's just a red herring.
32:38Hayden:Yeah or communism isn't the only red herring or something like that yeah.
32:41Mitch:Well I like how like when Miss Peacock I guess she she drinks and they said oh it might be poison and she like faints he goes to catch her and she like falls through his arms onto the floor yeah he just gives up he's like I'll catch you he's like faint into my arms she just goes like well then and then and then you get Colonel Mustard there there's there must be the killer still in the house. Colonel Mustard's all right let's split up he's like we're gonna handle this in an orderly and military fashion we'll split up it's a Scooby-doo and horror movie thing to do.
33:08Hayden:Yeah and then they're like well if one of us is the killer you know and so they're all suspicious of each other.
33:13Tom:Because Mustard like looks and goes if I was the killer he's like you'd be the first person I take out and everybody just stares at him and goes if if I was the killer. I said if the group splits into pairs to search the mansion but someone burns the blackmail evidence, unlocks the cupboard, kills the motorist Mustard and Scarlet discover a secret passage to the lounge where they find the motorist body their cries for help prompt Yvette to free them by shooting the lock with the revolver the group deduces that the murderer pickpocketed the cupboard key from Wadsworth.
33:45Hayden:Yeah so the burning the evidence really only works for one ending right the last the one? No the one where um is it where Monsters are the killer no it's the one where White's the killer. Or is it Peacock?
34:02Tom:Peacock's Peacock, Scarlet and then Wadsworth and everybody Yeah I think it's Peacock's the killer.
34:08Hayden:I think that that's the one where it works.
34:11Mitch:Who who kills uh Yvette in one of the endings it's white isn't it white yeah so that one whatever I want that one well I like how when they they split up and they go run it off you've got uh what yeah Wadsworth and White they both get ready to go into a room like two separate rooms and they keep looking back at each other to make sure they're still there that was funny.
34:32Tom:She's like I'm coming you can't hide from me or when uh Mr Green and Yvette are getting ready to go into the attic they're like all right you go first okay and then goes to show some mouth like come back there's a stuff or when they draw straws and Christopher Lloyd is holding this tiny stub and he's walking up to each person there's a guy has got like a yardstick and he's like holding up the little twig he's like nope doesn't match not the same yeah and then he gets the peacock goes it's you and me honey bunch she's like oh but like they revealed like the the secret passages and stuff and like I'd seen this movie when I was younger and I thought that is the way to go.
35:17Mitch:When I have a house I'm gonna have secret passages everywhere.
35:20Hayden:Man you imagine how expensive that would be yeah yeah but it would be cool it would be cool there's no way I could do it at my house I thought about it.
35:29Mitch:I thought about doing it here I bet you could do it here.
35:32Hayden:I bet like the set deck people for because it was Paramount Studios 14, 15 to 16. So they had basically one giant studio between the three of them and uh I bet you they had a lot of fun like making all these tunnels and like you know swaying paintings to hide in the turning fireplace.
35:48Mitch:So I always thought maybe we could put like a spiral staircase in one corner that leads from the second floor down to the first floor and over to the other room.
35:55Hayden:That's the one thing in the board game that never made sense because they had a staircase secret entrance to a room that was like in a a di a different corner so it doesn't like go up and down it just teleports you. It's a teleporter it's like my God that's some stairs right there.
36:13Tom:Because even like watching them like separately like uh with mustard and scarlet like how excited the two of them get when they find the secret passage.
36:19Mitch:Yeah yeah it's like it's a secret passage and they're like whoo like like let's go let's see where it goes well then and then when they're in there they find the the guy dead when Watchworth goes to open the door stand back I'll bring it down and he's like bounces out the door he's like no good no good there is some clip it's like when you go to the bathroom and you're you have little kids.
36:41Hayden:Yeah it's just like he's like I'll come I'll help you so the uh the the dude the uh what is he like the the what are the what what's his character called the which one oh yeah it's right here Samsonite okay the the the guy that stops uh his car broke down the motorist the motorist yes when he shows up to the uh to the door and he's just the nobody like I mean they're all freaking out it's very obvious that they're freaking out they do this for every character that comes since and then they stuff him into the to the room with the phone and then he locks the door the guy asks no no questions nothing he's just like whatever all right because he's on the phone and he's like wow it was my whole boss and then
37:27Hayden:yeah and you see the phone pick up and go click did you ever find out who his boss was mustard was it mustard yeah mustard kills him oh okay in one of the endings the last one yeah so like that has to be the real ending yeah the the one where all of them did it is the like the true ending. Okay oh killed someone then who did I kill the butler oh shit whatever that comes out blasting yeah and and they cut to Martin Mullen he's just like they're shooting at us and he's like I've been shot I'm hit a pretty good shot though she's like the door is open come out now and he's like I could have been killed then the he's like I can't take any more scares how many the chandelier falls how many chandeliers do they have
38:18Hayden:like hanging up by twine as well I know right yeah yeah I do like the part where um white or is it Peacock has uh the butler at gunpoint and they do the one two two one oh one plus two plus one plus one yeah yeah yeah Scarlet no one plus two plus one plus two shut up they're going so fast and you're like trying to do the math in your own head like was it two shots in the chandelier or was it one shot? You can't remember so they're making you question yourself too but then in one of the endings all like he's like there was no more left in the gun oh she's like told you which was hilarious but we'll get to the ending bits the multiple endings yeah kills the officer where was I oh yeah the officer showed up
39:03Hayden:who's also like just like wow it's not illegal what you guys are doing around here I like how when he goes it's J.
39:09Mitch:Edgar Hoover. He's like why do you have J Edgar Hoover on your phone?
39:12Hayden:He's on everybody else's phone why can't he be on mine? Yeah they're just like all right good enough why shouldn't he be on mine? He walks in to see one of the the girls like making out with uh body's dead body the cop doing like the arm to make yeah rubbing her head and and and he's got blood all over the side of his face and the cop's just like everybody's having a good time in here it's like it's just it's just too terrible to see they got the cook like pinned against the wall and the peacocks on the other side doing her hands.
39:41Mitch:That was funny. He's like it's just people having a good time.
39:45Tom:It's like it's a free country was that free you gotta understand this is the American dream here. Um secret passage kill the body uh the group that does it the murder pickpocket but uh he's fast forwarding a police officer investigating the motorist's abandoned car arrives to make a telephone call after successfully distracting the officer and concealing the bodies the group resumes its search but someone cuts the electricity in the darkness a vet the officer and an arriving singing telegram girl are murdered here's just could you imagine the first time like seeing that like what's what's happening and just kill her it's like until I revealed later on I was like she has no tie to any of this she just got showed up at the wrong place at the wrong
40:37Tom:time. Well apparently she knew something but uh one of the go-go's yeah she was one of the the go-go's uh oh really yeah uh Jane Wedlin or Wheedlin whatever that was her first movie all she gets is that bit and she gets gunned down on staircase at a house in a comedy movie because even like the cop be like unlock this door I arrest you for kidnapping and murder and wads with the riffs through goes who said anything about murder just wanted you to open the door he's so cool about it the cop's just smiling because the cop they open the door see it's a cop and they slam it right back in the and then they open it and like or Green opens it and he's just like wherever they're about to go in and he looks and he looks back at Green and he just goes
41:22Tom:up and smiles like an idiot can I use your phone and he's like yes you can use the one no not the one in the the one in the library how come J. Edgar Hoover's call it's so stupid because then Wadsworth goes in there to talk to him. Yeah yeah and it's like but you think of the ending it's like why's Wadsworth talking to J. Edgar Hoover so that that's not the real ending though right is it the real ending no the real ending is the one where uh because like the two of them Wadsworth is working for the FBI.
41:59Hayden:Right and it but the one the real one is the one where the Mr Green was the plant. He was he was the fruit. Yeah he was the fruit so to speak so yeah there's no there's no like all the evidence through the meat of the movie doesn't neatly mesh into each ending. So it really is choose your own ending.
42:18Tom:Yeah. After restoring the power Wadsworth gathers the guests and reconstructs the night's events explaining that the victims were informants connected to each other three endings are then presented. So Wadsworth's wife was forced to commit suicide because of Mr.
42:32Hayden:Body Green's a homosexual working for the State Department Miss White killed her husband because he was banging a husband's husbands how many husbands have you killed or how many husbands have you what do what do you say have died well I think how many have died oh yeah he said how many husbands have have have you slept with or died how many husbands have you killed and she said um my husbands or others and they're like staring at her and she's just like flames flames on the side of my face because like she's like doing this monologue and Wazer just interrupts her she's like no they said that when she improvised that line like they had to do they they got that the the natural improvisation but everybody
43:11Hayden:around her was just falling out laughing so hard. So they had to do all the reactions separate and the reactions do make that so much better they're just looking at like what is going on that's crazy.
43:21Tom:Well I like how he's running back and forth explaining everything and when he gets to pretends to be the cook he falls into Mr Green's arms and he's like help help it help it and then he gets but then he like looks at me and he just like drops him and then he like falls and he's like immediately pops up with his hands and he's like and then they would have came through this way I'm back to the library yeah he's he was really enjoying uh sussing out the killer and then Green's like about to kill green in the hallway and he's like to make a story short too late this is like like because they show like you know you watch all these like old Noir films or something like that, like the thin man where you
44:02Tom:there's it has to be like a dinner, and it's like I've come to Mass the Murder. It's like one of you did this, and they have to go through the whole thing, but watching them do it in like the tone of just like of pure slapstick hilarity. Yeah, because even when he grabs his white, he's running up the stairs and she just trips and he just lets her go and she faceplants.
44:18Hayden:He's like, I for uh Mrs. uh Peacock, he's like, I knew it was you because you said this recipe was your favorite, but monkey brains aren't a typical dish in Washington, D.C. Cantonese.
44:31Tom:And then Mr. Green, is that what we ate? Yeah, yeah. He's like about to throw up.
44:36Hayden:That's a weird dish to throw in there, too. Yeah.
44:40Tom:In the first, Yvette is revealed to have murdered the cook and Body on Scarlet's behalf, while Scarlett killed the remaining victims, intending to replace Body as the group's blackmailer. In the second ending, well, we'll talk about Scarlet's one.
44:53Hayden:Yeah. Yeah.
44:53Tom:Because the cop was on her payroll.
44:56Hayden:The motorist guy, I don't remember why she So Yvette was like a Bordeaux Madame, right? She was like a lady of the wheel.
45:04Tom:Scarlet was like the Madame. Yeah, yeah. Scarlett was, and Yvette was for it. It was one of her um ladies of the night. Right. She was a woman in her employee. Right. And the cop was on the take and mustard.
45:15Hayden:Well, all of them had slept with uh, except for Mr. Green.
45:18Tom:All of them had slept with uh but a vet slept with White's husband, right? So that's why she killed her.
45:23Hayden:Right.
45:24Tom:With the rope.
45:26Hayden:The shortest person hung. There's literally billiard sticks and pool cues right next to where she's. And the billiard balls. Yeah.
45:33Tom:It's like those things way a ton.
45:35Hayden:Yeah, she could, but she chose to kill her with a rope. That's the dumbest.
45:39Tom:What are you doing? Style points. Because it was scarlet where she's like, in the it's like, everybody turn out your pockets. Ladies to turn out your purses. Whoever has the gun's the killer. Yeah. It's like uh she like she just points the gun at Wazer. She's like, good. It's like, who are you, Perry Mason? And then you get the Jehovah's Witness guy. The kingdom of heaven's at hand.
46:00Hayden:Armageddon is coming. It's already here.
46:07Tom:I forgot about that. Oh, Mrs. Peacock. How do you know my name?
46:13Yeah.
46:13Tom:The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Freeze. But then you get the one plus two plus one plus one. Yeah. Or the one plus two plus two plus one.
46:22And you're like, keep it's like whenever you like fruit, what is that?
46:28Hayden:Yeah, there's like decomposing bodies inside.
46:31Tom:In the second ending, you'll say just lock all the bodies in the cellar, leave them one at a time.
46:36Mitch:Well, before it does that, you get the big title card that goes, but here's what really happened. Yeah.
46:42Tom:But it was like, or was it this? Yeah. Which is Mrs. Peacock one, where she's revealed to have committed all the murders to protect her secrets. In both endings, the police arrive to arrest the perpetrator the perpetrator. Perpetuato. The perpetuator. And Wadsworth is exposed as an undercover FBI again.
46:59Hayden:Which is a wild take. Because uh he's I don't know, British.
47:03Tom:Because when Peacock's leaving, they're all like Waders, they should say for she's a jolly good f yeah.
47:09Mitch:I thought they were gonna say something like, well, that was he was revealing that was their cue when this person walked out and you heard this song, that's the killer. I love that.
47:17Hayden:When the cops show up, they turn on like floodlights, like they've been setting up the sting the whole time. They've been there just listening to murders happening.
47:24Mitch:Waiting outside.
47:25Tom:It's like a cop died. It's like, hang on, hang on. We don't know who the killer is yet. It's like we can't unkill him. It's like we gotta wait.
47:32Mitch:Well, sacrifice. I have a man on the inside. Gotta break some eggs. They already knew he was a dirty, they just let him go in anyway.
47:38Tom:He just throws out, good job, Wadsworth. The third ending reveals the truth. Peacock stabbed the cook, her former employee. Plum bludgeoned body. Mustard killed the motorist, his former driver. Scarlet murdered the police officer, whom she was bribing. White strangled a vet who had sex with her husband, and Wadsworth shot the scene telegram girl with whom Plum had an affair.
48:04Hayden:Yeah, so a lot of those murders don't make sense because while they were happening, the cutaways from everybody like snooping around, like there's no physical way they could have gotten from point A to point B.
48:15Mitch:Wadsworth was like upstairs and somehow he killed the lady at the front door. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah, didn't that?
48:21Hayden:Well, no, it was even crazier than that because he had to come down, turn off the lights, no, get the gun, turn off the lights, and then shoot the lady. Put the gun back. In the time from when she rang the doorbell. And like you last see him snooping around with uh Ms.
48:35Tom:White, Mrs.
48:36Hayden:White. Yeah.
48:36Tom:So he's like, I threw the key, but I secretly put it back in my pocket.
48:41Hayden:Yeah, it was it was all over the place.
48:43Tom:This is like Among Us the movie.
48:45Hayden:Watch that be like the next clue.
48:48Tom:So there is talk that they might do another one. Space clue. Space clue. Wadsworth then reveals that he is the real body and that the man killed earlier was his butler. He orchestrated the murders to eliminate his informants and evidence of his crimes, but intends to continue blackmailing the guests. However, Green draws his own revolver and kills Wadsworth, revealing himself to be an undercover. He's like, well shot. Good shot, Green. And then he like looks at his hand and it's covered in blood. He's like, very good shot. Or he's like, he's like, was him? Nah. And now look at him and go, nah?
49:28Hayden:Med it? No.
49:32Tom:The police arrive and arrest the guests while Green, who was believed to be a homosexual, announces that he's going to go home and have sex with his wife.
49:41Hayden:Yeah, he's like, uh once they make the arrest, he's like, now I'm gonna go home and sleep with my wife.
49:47Tom:He's like, he's like, all right, Green, who done it? And everybody starts arguing, they all did it. But if you want to know who killed Mr. Body, that was me in the hall with the revolver. Alright, Chief, take him away. I'm gonna go home and sleep with my wife. I wish that was louder. We'll get to that later. Thus end the movie.
50:09Mitch:So did you have a favorite quote? Like, what was your favorite one?
50:14Hayden:Um I really liked Madeline Kahn's just unhinged. Yeah, because I wonder, like apparently Jonathan Landis uh did not like a lot of improvisation. Or maybe it's Jonathan Lynn didn't like improvisation because he comes from a theater background and he wanted people to stick to the lines. But like she could get away with it for some reason. It's Madeline Kahn. Yeah. So and the I was watching interviews with the actors talking about her, and they're like, no, she's like that in real life. She just says the weirdest things, and she knows that she's being goofy and silly and kind of like a space head, but that's like she she uses it to her advantage, and everybody just thinks it's hilarious. And it's it's in a charming, kind of cute way.
50:55Hayden:And you can see it for throughout all of her movies, like young Frankenstein and stuff like that. So yeah. Um yeah, I think uh the flame one where she just flames on the side of my face.
51:09Mitch:Tom, what was yours?
51:14Tom:Uh probably Mr. Green's monologue at the end.
51:17Oh yeah.
51:18Tom:That one's really funny. Or the Kingdom of Heaven bit. The Kingdom of Heavens, it's already here. She slams it. Get out of here, they gotta leave, or they're gonna die.
51:28Mitch:I like the uh when Colonel Mustard and Wadsworth are talking, he's like, Can you keep a secret? Yes, so can I?
51:34Tom:Yeah, that's good. He just turns away. Like the put-downs they give him.
51:40Hayden:They didn't really let Tim Curry do his Tim Curryisms as much in this movie.
51:44Mitch:Like when he starts going Yeah, we're like in a home alone, he gets that smile when he does the stolen criticism.
51:55Hayden:Oh smasher. Good shotgun. Very good. unknown: Yeah.
52:03Tom:It's like you came in one at a time. It's like hello, hello. It's like then Mrs. White came very failed.
52:11Mitch:So overall, what would you rate the movie?
52:16Hayden:I give it an eight.
52:18Tom:I give it an eight and a half.
52:20Hayden:I'll give it an eight. I think that uh like it's it's kind of a mess as far as like the writing, but uh to its credit, it's intentionally so because they want people to argue about who who actually did it. I think the intent when the movie was released was that there is no defined ending and everybody has to argue about it. Because they're not thinking about VHS, they're not thinking about a real ending. Yeah, they want people to be on the streets saying, uh-uh, this is how it really happened. And uh so to make it kind of vague and you know, try to get people to come back and do re-watches. It was a movie engineered to try and break the blockbuster mold. And I I can appreciate it and tip my hat to it.
53:02Hayden:It definitely didn't work, um, which is sad because it would have been cool to try and uh come up with a conventional way to get people to see movies again.
53:11Mitch:Well, I really liked how like granted it's not made for kids, but I like the slapstick humor because you know it it's a it's a kid's board game that turned into a movie. Yeah. So I mean it it's funny to see like the outlandish things that go on throughout the movie.
53:23Hayden:It was only in the 80s like something like that could be made. You know, where they have the edgy humor, but it's a board game. Yeah.
53:29Mitch:Well, that's because you have like the one ending where Miss Peacock goes outside and I forgot what he says. Mr. Green says something, and then Crawl Mustard slaps him, then Wadros turns around and slaps him. Miss Peacock was a man? The Mounties always get their man. What? Mounties.
53:49Hayden:Could you imagine though if this movie was successful, like Monopoly the movie, and all it's well, I mean, it took a while, but Battleship the movie. Oh that was not successful, and it will not Scrabble the movie. Sorry.
54:01Tom:Or Uno Uno Bongle. No, they already made an Uno movie.
54:06Hayden:Yeah. Oh they did?
54:08Tom:Yeah.
54:08Hayden:Oh, he was talking about that stupid YouTube video.
54:10Tom:Rooster Teeth when Let's Play, they did Let's Play Uno, but it just kept going and going, and they just started calling it Uno Uno the movie because it wouldn't end. Because they set the score too high.
54:22Hayden:Yeah. Um yeah, no, I think it was uh like for a take on like a serious Hollywood take on a stupid IP that has no business being developed, that's about as good as you can get it. And uh did it need to be made? Probably not.
54:39Tom:Am I happy that they made it? Yes.
54:41Mitch:I mean, I think granted, like you said, it wasn't successful in the theaters, but I think the success of it at home kind of led to stuff like Knives Out.
54:48Hayden:Yeah. Well, I mean in the same kind of Agatha Christie and all the originals, but I'm sure uh what's his name that made Knives Out?
54:59Mitch:Um well, because it has some of that kind of strange humor in those as well.
55:02Hayden:So yeah, I'm I'm sure that like they they're all fans of Clue. You know, I I think if you watch Clue, because I watched it a couple years with my kids uh a couple years ago, and you know, they thought it was funny. I think it sans the test of time. It's it's like it should be in like the you know the pantheon of of movies. Um, but this is definitely not the best of any kind of genre you would put this in. It's I'll tell you what, it's the best board game movie I've heard.
55:29Tom:It is the best board game movie. Yeah. Way to narrow it down. This is the best board game film. Yes, there's not many, but this if if there whatever however many there are, Clue is number one. Clue's always going to be number one in that category.
55:42Hayden:I would even say, because board you could say that boardwalk empire is a TV show about Monopoly. Because it all there's crime, they murder people on like Vetner Avenue and stuff like that. But uh yeah, I would say that this is even better than Boardwalk Empire. There you go. unknown: There you go.
55:58Tom:I say this movie does very well stand the test of time from coming out in 1985. This all the humor, the jokes all still land. It's not too much, it's not you know, nobody goes, eh, it's like uh like even like them making fun of Green for saying he's a homosexual. Yeah, it's like I'm a planner. Don't they normally call guys like you a fruit? Yeah, and he's like very funny. Like it's it's funny, like it's it's always funny.
56:21Hayden:Like every the the documentary that I watched for this, like they talked to some people from the the gay community and they they love it, they think it's like that have that character, even though he's a fake and you know, but it was it was funny for the times and funny for today. So I mean I'm sure not all of them do, but uh anybody should be able to take a joke.
56:39Tom:And even though there's like there's three endings, you know, all of them did it, one of them did it, whatever, there's still great rewatch value. Yeah, like you can watch this movie every couple of years, and you're still gonna laugh at the jokes.
56:51Hayden:Yeah, so like when I watch movies, um, I'll either watch it once and be done with it, or I'll watch it maybe once every five years, and I'll watch uh like I have movies that I have like on a roll of decks that I will watch every year, and this is once a five years, I would say. So yeah, yeah.
57:10Tom:And it's one of those movies it's fun to show somebody who's never seen it.
57:13Mitch:Right. Yeah, because it'd been probably since I was a teenager that I'd seen it, but it was it was fun to watch.
57:19Hayden:And it's funny too when you're older and you start to understand like what the jokes mean. Exactly.
57:24Tom:Because like seeing it as like a little kid and you're just like, oh, he's slapping Mr. Green around. That's funny. And then you get to the line, like the true dialogue and like the quips and stuff back and forth. You're like, it's like that was clever.
57:36Hayden:Yeah, yeah, and then like for its shortcomings too, like why they needed the weapons. Nah, don't worry about it.
57:43Tom:Yeah, they have them in the game, they got him in the mansion.
57:46Hayden:They got all the all the necessities of the game. The game is like stupid simple, so to uh to to engineer a script out of that, I I I couldn't imagine, you know, but they did it.
57:57Tom:Yeah. I think it even got like good life out of it as like a stage production.
58:02Hayden:Yeah, so they talked about actually just making a stage production. Um the director who was blacklisted because of the failure of this movie, he he couldn't make movies for a while. He ended up coming back and he did uh some other movies, I can't remember, but um he uh he said that he wouldn't change that he wouldn't change a thing because if you make a bad play you spend uh year developing it, it goes on stage, and then a week it's out, and then nobody will have ever heard of your play. You make a bad movie, it might be the last movie you ever make, but people can still find it at Blockbuster or whatever. So, you know, now streaming. So it's uh he was grateful that it got the resurgence, the
58:44Hayden:renaissance, and uh home demand.
58:46Mitch:So let's see. I think he made a The Whole Nine Yards is one of the things he made, The Fighting Temptations, Sergeant Bilko, My Cousin Vinny, Ferris Bueller. Oh yeah, yeah. Oh, sorry, Ferris Bueller TV series.
59:04Tom:Take away that take away that slight praise.
59:07Mitch:My cousin Vinny, Sergeant Bilko. Have you ever seen Sergeant Bilko? No. That's that's a uh what we call it, uh Steve Martin.
59:14Hayden:Oh yeah, it's pretty funny. Oh, I have seen that, yeah.
59:17Mitch:It's got a what was it? Um can't remember his name. Martin. Steve no, well no, Steve Martin and then um Is it Martin Short? No, the the guy that killed his wife killed him. Hartman.
59:30Hayden:Oh, Phil Hartman.
59:30Mitch:Phil Hartman is like this guy trying to catch him. He's trying to catch him, he's gonna find him because basically Steve Martin is like this.
59:37Hayden:And he puts him in like Antarctica, yeah.
59:39Mitch:Yeah, but he's like a sergeant and he's like running running gambling rackets and stuff all on the base. It's pretty funny.
59:45Hayden:I've seen it probably 30 years ago, dude.
59:48Tom:My cousin Vinny's a better movie.
59:49Hayden:Yeah, my cousin Vinny's a great movie.
59:52Tom:But I put this up there with my cousin Vinny. I'd put Clue up there.
59:55Hayden:Oh, Clue's classic. You can't deny it. It's like if you had to pick the top 50 movies of the 1980s, Clue would be on that list.
1:00:02Tom:If you had to pick probably the top 10 comedies of the 1980s, Clue Clue could be Clue could be in that list.
1:00:07Hayden:Yeah, there's a lot. There's a lot to compete with. You got you got Airplane, Animal Pancaster, Fairspieler, Fairspieler, Breakfast Club. Yeah.
1:00:16Tom:Well, the Breakfast Club isn't really a comedy. Yeah, you can say it's a comedy. It's not as funny as any of this.
1:00:21Hayden:Teen Wolf. Yeah, you got Back to the Future, you got all this other stuff. So I'd still put Clue.
1:00:26Tom:Like it'd be hot, yeah, number nine or number ten.
1:00:28Hayden:I don't think it'd make it, man.
1:00:29Tom:To me, yes. To me, yes.
1:00:32Mitch:Well, your opinion didn't matter. You asked for it. Thought you were gonna say something else there for a minute. unknown: Yeah.
1:00:38Hayden:We should do a list. We should do a list of the top ten comedies in the 1980s.
1:00:42Mitch:We can do that. We can do that.
1:00:43Tom:Well, Caddyshack's number one.
1:00:44Mitch:That could be our next uh our next episode that we do.
1:00:48Hayden:Uh, okay. All right. All right. Well, are we done?
1:00:53Tom:No.
1:00:54Hayden:No. Yeah. unknown: Yeah. Yeah.
1:00:55Tom:I want to go home and sleep with my wife. Entertainment is just a red herring.
1:01:43Mitch:With trivia. Trivia, trivia, trivia. Wait, we'll start. Uh, I think it's 15 questions. We'll see how that goes.
1:01:52Hayden:I was told there was no trivia.
1:01:53Mitch:Well, now there is. I lied. Let's see. Number one. These are all quotes. Finish the iconic quote. Wadsworth line.
1:02:03Hayden:They're all quotes?
1:02:04Mitch:No, these first five.
1:02:05Hayden:Oh.
1:02:06Mitch:He's like, oh. No. You just watched the movie and how it was made. Finish the iconic line from Wadsworth. Communism was just a red herring. Oh, look at that. Hayden got a point.
1:02:19Hayden:I did it.
1:02:20Mitch:Tom? Which character shouts? I'm not shouting! Alright, I am. I'm shouting. Shouting, I'm yes. I'm shouting, I'm shouting, I'm shouting. Alright. Hayden? Complete Mrs. White's improvised rant. Flames. Flames on the side of my face. Oh, look at there, you got it.
1:02:37Tom:All the quotes we've already talked about. I can't help it.
1:02:40Mitch:This is the trivia gave me.
1:02:42Tom:We did a good episode.
1:02:43Hayden:You wrote this yourself, Mitch, didn't you?
1:02:45Mitch:Of course. When Mrs. Peacock asks, what are you afraid of? A zenith? What device is she actually confusing it with?
1:02:53Tom:A television? Oh, it's 1954. TV in 1954.
1:03:00Hayden:What is it? Device is she actually confusing with? Yes. I don't know, a confuse Twitter.
1:03:14Tom:Is it a radio?
1:03:17Mitch:Well no. It's a re-recording wiretap or listening device. Alright. Next one. Your turn. What is Mr. Green's famous final line in ending C?
1:03:32Hayden:I'm gonna go home and sleep with my wife.
1:03:37Mitch:Alright, let's see. What 1980s New Wave pop star played the doomed singing telegram girl?
1:03:45Tom:Uh Jane Wheedlin.
1:03:48Mitch:Yes. My wife has sent me eight texts in the span of the last 30 seconds.
1:03:53Hayden:Tell her how you really feel on this podcast, Mitch. You said you were gonna come home.
1:03:57Mitch:She doesn't listen to it. I already told her we're podcasting. She's she's asking me, where are you? Next question. What was Colonel Mustard's black market scandal that Mr. Body used for blackmail?
1:04:09Hayden:He stole like airplane parts and sold them on the black market. Close? What?
1:04:15Tom:Uh radio parts. Yeah.
1:04:17Hayden:For uh airplane, like No, it's not an airplane.
1:04:23Tom:Yes, it is.
1:04:24Hayden:Yeah.
1:04:25Mitch:Airplane radios.
1:04:26Hayden:Yeah.
1:04:28Mitch:This says army truck parts and radios on the black market.
1:04:32Hayden:It was airplane, yeah. I'm pretty sure. So you should tell to give it to me first.
1:04:36Mitch:Sure, why not? Okay. What was Professor Plump's profession before he was stripped of his license?
1:04:47Tom:He was a psychiatrist. Yes. Sleeping with his patients.
1:04:53Mitch:What is the fictional name and location of the secluded mansion?
1:04:57Hayden:Oh, uh Hill House. And was it it was in some New England. Yes. They just said New England.
1:05:07Mitch:Yeah, it says Hill House in New England.
1:05:08Tom:Yeah.
1:05:09Mitch:Alright. And ending A, who actually murdered the cook, the motorist, and the singing telegram girl.
1:05:15Tom:Miss Scarlet. Okay. Miss Peacock.
1:05:24Hayden:Miss White.
1:05:26Tom:Wadsworth.
1:05:28Hayden:Colonel Mustard.
1:05:31Tom:Event?
1:05:31Mitch:Yes! Under Miss Scarlett's direction. That's right. Alright. We got there. We got there. Alright. Next. I don't know who we left off on.
1:05:41Hayden:You started with him. It's Hayden's.
1:05:43Mitch:How many total endings were filmed for the movie?
1:05:45Hayden:Four. Four were filmed, three were released. Okay. I was gonna say, and how many were released? Give me two points.
1:05:52Mitch:I don't think so. You already disclosed you knew that earlier. What happens in the scrapped fourth ending?
1:05:58Tom:Wazworth kills everybody with poison champagne and is killed by dogs. Yes.
1:06:03Hayden:You're welcome, Todd.
1:06:04Mitch:I knew that already. Which famous Star Wars actress was originally Cash.
1:06:09Oh yeah.
1:06:10Mitch:Princess Leia. Which dead little Which legendary English playwright and screenwriter co-wrote the screenplay and story with director John Jonathan Lynn? John Landis?
1:06:24Hayden:No, he's not an English playwright.
1:06:26Mitch:He is one of the ones in it, but he's not the wonder.
1:06:28Hayden:I can't remember.
1:06:29Mitch:I don't know. Tom Stubbard. Ah, yes. Old Tom Stubbard.
1:06:33Hayden:I do remember them talking about him. All right.
1:06:35Mitch:Last one. And we're gonna make it worth three points. Oh, come on. I'm just kidding. Or will we? During the theatrical run, how did moviegoers know which ending they were going to see?
1:06:47Hayden:Paramount released it in the newspapers. Yes. Yeah.
1:06:50Mitch:Yes.
1:06:51Tom:The movie theaters would tell them.
1:06:53Hayden:All right. So I win. So I get to pick a punishment.
1:06:58Tom:Don't you have a punishment you got to review?
1:07:00Hayden:I do.
1:07:01Tom:Did you watch it? I did. Oh yeah. Oh.
1:07:07Hayden:I don't know.
1:07:08Tom:I was gonna say if you did, if you I was gonna hope you said you didn't, because I was gonna play the music and go, or did he?
1:07:14Hayden:Uh I don't know. Tune in for the punishment for Tom on the next episode.
1:07:28Mitch:This is how it really ends!
1:07:30Hayden:That absolutely nothing to do with what we've been talking about, but chimp crazy. Okay.

1:07:38Hayden:Oh, yeah. Tom, you have to watch VelociPastor 2.
1:07:41Mitch:Well, they made a second one?
1:07:42Hayden:We gotta spin. Okay, mid spin.
1:07:46Mitch:This is so unorganized!
1:07:48Tom:Like the movie.
1:07:52Mitch:Oh, respin. Oh, that's a dumb feature. You're a dumb feature. All three of us have to watch it!
1:08:00Hayden:Yay! You know what? All three of us have to watch Chip Crazy. I already did. We already have. You already have. Alright, fine. VelociPastor 2. Okay. Alright. Chip Crazy.
1:08:12Mitch:Even when Hayden wins, he doesn't win. That's how it goes.
1:08:16Tom:Hayden would like win like some sweepstakes. It's like, you get$10 million. It's like then we're gonna donate to charity. It's like, but I want the money.
1:08:24Mitch:Donate to the Hayden charity.
1:08:26Hayden:Man, don't be greedy. Do I need to am I reviewing this now? Should I save it for the next recording?
1:08:31Mitch:I'll save it for the next one.
1:08:32Hayden:Okay. Donate for the next episode. Just play stupid Sonic.
1:08:43Okay.
